This thread exists to discuss British politics.
Political issues related to Northern Ireland and the Crown Dependencies (the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man) are also considered on-topic here if there's no more appropriate OTC thread for them.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.
As with other OTC threads, off-topic posts may be thumped or edited by the moderators.
- There is a dedicated thread to discuss LGBTQ+ rights in the United Kingdom. That doesn't mean it's always off-topic here, but unless something's directly linked to political events, that's probably a better thread for it.
- There's also a separate thread to talk about your favourite British Prime Ministers.
Recent political stuff:
- The vote to see if Britain should adopt Alternative Voting has failed.
- Lib Dems lose lots of councils and councillors, whilst Labour make the majority of the gains in England.
- The Scottish National Party do really well in the elections.

Neither is the Daily Mail — that is still owned by the Rothermeres: old-fashioned Newspaper barons.
Farage worked in the City, didn't he? No manual labour there, folks.

"Too. Much. Clutter.""Neither is the Daily Mail - that is still owned by the Rothermeres: old-fashioned Newspaper barons fascists"
FIFY
advancing the front into TV Tropes*insert Inigo Montoya quote here*
The voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the groundthe Mail, and all its owners, going back to before WW 2 have been fascists, they openly supported fascism before the war started and the only policy change they have had is in regards to getting rid of the Jews, its the Muslims they hate now
advancing the front into TV TropesExcuse me, but who is this Murdoch?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Rupert Murdoch, media magnate who owns and controls one of the largest media companies in the world, including newspapers and TV news.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanHe controls both Fox News, Sky News and much of the British Newspapper market, that's what I can reember off the top of my head.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranBoris is feeling very tired and emotional.
What's precedent ever done for us?And his media are notorious for a) manipulating the political discourse of their countries (see Fox News in the US), usually in right wing direction and b) pulling seriously evil stunts such as hacking into the phones of kidnapped children and making their parents believe the child may still be alive (see the News International phone hacking scandal).
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanRupert Murdoch, an 85 year old conservative billionaire who owns most if not all conservative newspapers in Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom, along with major news networks in those said countries. But I think he might be restricted more in the US than the other two countries
He's basically in charge of large swathes of the media in all of the above mentioned countries, by putting pressure on the governments in question to make it legal for him to do so. And he uses said power to put right wing governments (or the most right wing members of leftist parties) into power to advance his own political and economic agendas.
Besides the United States' Koch Brothers, he's the closest thing the world has to a Lex Luthor-esque Super-villain.

In fact he's openly stated he hates the EU because they don't dance to his tune.
"Yup. That tasted purple."We demand a Public Inquiry into the UK Government's culture of lying to voters
Obviously this petition hasn't gone viral, but it really should.
Won't do much good — Public Inquiries are controlled by the Government note .
Who knows? Both?

Keep Rolling OnIs "tired and emotional" a euphemism for "drunk", or is it literal?
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.X6

It is sometimes an appropriate response to reality to go insane."Tired and emotional" is cited on Wikipedia's Private Eye injokes list as a synonym for "drunk".
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanIt used to be a way to avoid libel suits for describing someone as drunk that has come full circle and itself become libellous.
"Yup. That tasted purple."Tired and Emotional does indeed mean drunk. It's one of Private Eye's many euphemisms.
The last part of that video reeks of Euphemism Treadmill.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."Corbyn just lost by something like 4:1. Ouch.
Pot calling the Kettle black - Farage tells MEPs none of them have ever done a proper job.
