    Original OP
(I saw Allan mention the lack of one so I thought I'd make one.)

Recent political stuff:

  • The vote to see if Britain should adopt Alternative Voting has failed.
  • Lib Dems lose lots of councils and councillors, whilst Labour make the majority of the gains in England.
  • The Scottish National Party do really well in the elections.

I wouldn't bet money on it reaching the top of the charts...but I would bet money on the official music video involving blackface.

At least they're helping remove any doubt they're a bunch of racist pricks.

For once, Barroso is dead on accurate.

As for UKIP...they're not racist, really guv'nor!

Aren't there other things happening apart from UKIP?

[up] From that article. I've noted something in bold:

Read is best known for hosting the Radio 1 breakfast show in the 1980s. He currently hosts a daily show on BBC Radio Berkshire and is a long-standing supporter of the anti-EU party. He spoke at its annual conference in 2012 and hosted an event at this year's conference.

[up] UKIP probably don't even know it's happening. Most people don't, and fewer care.

[up]Linked that further up the page. When something can only be saved by allying with people even the literal Nazis find too extreme, it's time to start seriously questioning whether it should be saved.

Then again, I can sort of see why Marine le Pen wouldn't be a huge fan of the Congress of the New Right - Janusz Korwin-Mikke doesn't believe women should have the vote.

Regarding the Holocaust, he doesn't deny it happened... he just doubts that Hitler was aware of it, and has suggested that the prisoners of Auschwitz were better off than the unemployed in Poland because they had 'three meals a day and a chance to work'. So that's all right then.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. It sounds good in theory, but there's just so many ways it could be horribly abused.

The anarchical schools thing is an interesting read, by the way, as a student of Summerhill I'd like to note that the "Beware! Children playing" sign shown at the end when they mention Summerhil was put there by the BBC during the drama, we just left it up afterwards cus we thought it was funny/we're lazy.

Right up there with the great protest songs - I'm sure the specials felt the same sense of changing the world when they released Free Nelson Mandela. Amazed that Mike Reads enormous talent has not been more fully recognised. And I did not know that he was actually from the Caribbean. Until now it was only the power of a Mahler symphony that could move me to tears but now I have discovered a new music that has taken me to as yet unexplored parts of my soul.

I'm going to say "sarcasm".

It's such a shame that you cannot buy the video for this and only the song as Mr Read's hilarious minstrel routine in full black face and costume completes the effect as fully intended. I can only imagine the PC police have deemed it 'racist'. When it gets to Xmas no.1 I bet the BBC will ban it and not even play it on Top Of The Pops although if they do ban it it might even help sales - how ironic would that be!! I urge people to call in and thank Mike on his BBC Radio show and maybe join in with the calypso accent to show support.

I'm going to lean "possibly sarcastic". wink

Only possibly? Yes, many are "Fantastic tells it like it is and raises money" comments, but the more verbose ones are symphonies of sarcasm and irony

Good Lord! This is so masterful, it's as though Rimsky-Korsakov and Sibelius had never existed...

This master piece of musical genius must surely be the top contender for the Euro-vision song contest, I love it, and have been playing it non stop all day, to the delight of my friendly neighbours. what a pity this wasn't released earlier in the year, when we could have enjoyed it in the garden while barbecuing our jerk chicken, rice and peas. I have ordered a few copies as Christmas presents,

I had given up hope of ever finding a song that was better than Stairway to Heaven, but... HERE IT IS!!!! - such atmosphere and harmonic sophistication! My girlfriend and I listen to it every night to get us in the mood for some.. umm.. 'amatory activity'. It works a treat!
