This thread exists to discuss British politics.
Political issues related to Northern Ireland and the Crown Dependencies (the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man) are also considered on-topic here if there's no more appropriate OTC thread for them.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.
As with other OTC threads, off-topic posts may be thumped or edited by the moderators.
- There is a dedicated thread to discuss LGBTQ+ rights in the United Kingdom. That doesn't mean it's always off-topic here, but unless something's directly linked to political events, that's probably a better thread for it.
- There's also a separate thread to talk about your favourite British Prime Ministers.
Recent political stuff:
- The vote to see if Britain should adopt Alternative Voting has failed.
- Lib Dems lose lots of councils and councillors, whilst Labour make the majority of the gains in England.
- The Scottish National Party do really well in the elections.

For once, Barroso is dead on accurate.
As for UKIP...they're not racist, really guv'nor!
Cunts.
My name is Addy. Please call me that instead of my username.Welts.
Schild und Schwert der ParteiIn further UKIP news, their Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy group in the European Parliament was placed in an awkward situation last week when one of their MEPs defected to the centre-right European People's Party group, bringing them below the minimum amount of countries represented. They've solved this by signing up a far-right Polish party that even the literal neo-Nazis of the Front National decided was too spicy for them.
What's precedent ever done for us?Mike Read's insisting that his song "wasn't meant to be racist".

TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faerAren't there other things happening apart from UKIP?
From that article. I've noted something in bold:

Keep Rolling On@Iaculus (post 15700):
Cringe-worthy timing. It's Black History Month, after all.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.UKIP probably don't even know it's happening. Most people don't, and fewer care.
Keep Rolling OnRandom News, if anyone wants to know:
- Hurricane Gonzalo: Disruption as remnants of storm hit UK
- MPs to debate voter 'recall' powers
- Ken Clarke: Some Eurosceptic Tories should be in UKIP
- Trafficking Bill: MLAs vote to make paying for sex a crime
- The anarchic experimental schools of the 1970s

Keep Rolling OnCan we please talk about the utter vermin UKIP have partnered up with in the European Parliament?
Schild und Schwert der ParteiLinked that further up the page. When something can only be saved by allying with people even the literal Nazis find too extreme, it's time to start seriously questioning whether it should be saved.

What's precedent ever done for us?Holocaust deniers. How very patriotic.
Schild und Schwert der ParteiThen again, I can sort of see why Marine le Pen wouldn't be a huge fan of the Congress of the New Right - Janusz Korwin-Mikke doesn't believe women should have the vote.
Regarding the Holocaust, he doesn't deny it happened... he just doubts that Hitler was aware of it, and has suggested that the prisoners of Auschwitz were better off than the unemployed in Poland because they had 'three meals a day and a chance to work'. So that's all right then.

What's precedent ever done for us?Hm.
"Yup. That tasted purple."As the Daily Politics noted, like most music produced by Political Parties...
Anybody noticed the "Recall" debate?
Keep Rolling OnYeah, I've noticed that too. It sounds good in theory, but there's just so many ways it could be horribly abused.
Direct all enquiries to Jamie B GoodThe anarchical schools thing is an interesting read, by the way, as a student of Summerhill I'd like to note that the "Beware! Children playing" sign shown at the end when they mention Summerhil was put there by the BBC during the drama, we just left it up afterwards cus we thought it was funny/we're lazy.
"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ CyranTypically British response to the Calypso on Amazon
I can't tell if they're being sarcastic or if the Astroturf brigade is out in force.
"Yup. That tasted purple."I'm going to say "sarcasm".
With cannon shot and gun blast smash the alien. With laser beam and searing plasma scatter the alien to the stars. One of them openly mentioned considering it the greatest thing ever despite their being deaf from birth, so...
"Yup. That tasted purple."I'm going to lean "possibly sarcastic".
TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faerOnly possibly? Yes, many are "Fantastic tells it like it is and raises money" comments, but the more verbose ones are symphonies of sarcasm and irony
This master piece of musical genius must surely be the top contender for the Euro-vision song contest, I love it, and have been playing it non stop all day, to the delight of my friendly neighbours. what a pity this wasn't released earlier in the year, when we could have enjoyed it in the garden while barbecuing our jerk chicken, rice and peas. I have ordered a few copies as Christmas presents,
I had given up hope of ever finding a song that was better than Stairway to Heaven, but... HERE IT IS!!!! - such atmosphere and harmonic sophistication! My girlfriend and I listen to it every night to get us in the mood for some.. umm.. 'amatory activity'. It works a treat!
...wasn't my obvious enough?
TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faer
I wouldn't bet money on it reaching the top of the charts...but I would bet money on the official music video involving blackface.
At least they're helping remove any doubt they're a bunch of racist pricks.
