Play guess what the trope is. And then read the description.

Now this is a trope, despite the apparently lack of ykttw, but the name just doesn't really indicate it.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.

It was originally launched a couple months ago without a YKTTW as Fisher Bomb, which was cut and sent to YKTTW as Bomb Collapse. The YKTTW archive is still tied to that page.

Rhymes with "Protracted."

And it's not about Power Bombs, either.

I was expecting the little regenerating bombs Samus uses in morphball mode or something related. Support a rename. Just let me check the usage.

I was expecting Time Bomb Set Get Out Fast!

Not sure what to rename this to, though.

I count 6 wicks. But still just one inbound.

He meant one "real" wick. All the other wicks are from either the page itself or "needs help" pages.

It's not that it's exploding. It's that it's acting like it's falling apart, when there is a countdown to an explosion, but nothing causing the other aspects.

I was thinking something like Load Bearing Timer to link it to Load-Bearing Boss, but the explosions and random stuff commence when the timer activates. Progressive Destruction Timer?

An odd thing is that this is the inversion of Critical Existence Failure, where the countdown shouldn't affect everything else before it goes off.

Should we make a single prop for this one then? It sounds like most people favor a rename.

Yes, we should always do a single prop crowner.

Not always. If it's named for a work, that's a reason for an automatic rename. Plus when consensus is this clear, skipping can sometimes be done.

Well, I don't particularly mind going straight to alt titles, but listening to the complaints of a pro-rename bias gets old.

We can skip the SP crowner here in part because it was badly named from the get-go. Nobody agreed on a name in the YKTTW, and the launcher gave it more or less an X Syndrome name.

I wonder if this is even distinct enough to qualify as a separate trope? It reads like it's just "Collapsing Lair only moreso".

[up] I can certainly see it as a trope "Work shows falling debris as indication that a place is about to self destruct".

But yes, the name is terrible.

I had the same mental image, based on the trope name, that Deboss had. I should hope we skip the crowner on whether or not to rename; when even fans familiar with the series a trope is named after don't get the logic behind the name, it's a terrible name beyond any other reasons to rename.

My best suggestion for a rename would be Piecemeal Lair Collapse or something along those lines.

Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.

@Spark: Good point. Collapsing Lair even mentions that it may be triggered by a self-destruct mechanism (though whether before or after the actual 'destruct' part is ambiguous).

This is a trope describing an example of bad scenario writing, which got its start in the YKTTW workshop. It is a subtrope of Collapsing Lair and should not have its examples combined with that.

Catastrophic Countdown sounds like a great working name. Other ideas?

Time Bomb Set Get Out Fast wouldn't work, because the trope namer actually averts it.
