And he is. Especially in the Gen I/remakes.
The first time I played Baldurs Gate, I made a thief, but I wound up restarting as a fighter just so I'd have an excuse to keep Imoen in my party.
Also, the one time I tried a Suikoden game, I wound up keeping the hero's three best friends in the main party most of the time. It just felt like a proper team.
That's Feo . . . He's a disgusting, mysoginistic, paedophilic asshat who moonlights as a shitty writer—Something AwfulEvery Shin Megami Tensei game and its spinoffs: Jack Frost.
http://twitter.com/raydere | http://raydere.tumblr.comSo true. Especially of Ace Frost and Black Frost.
The thing about making witty signature lines is that it first needs to actually be witty.Huh. If I have the option, I will pick up a Steelix in the Pokemon games. How can you not love a monster metal snake? Even if it is apparently made out of styrofoam (seriously, the thing is the size of a bus. How is it that light? And yes, I know, Artists Are Not Architects...)
For others... eh, if they've got dialogue that amuses me for whatever reason, they'll often get a long-standing place in the party (Jolee Bindo & HK-47, Minsc, those types). Haven't played a lot of RPGs lately, really need to dig into my stack.

And Black Frost is mighty useful in Persona 4. Drain Fire and Ice? Repel Mudo? And no weaknesses? Okay, I'll take him!
http://twitter.com/raydere | http://raydere.tumblr.comBaldurs Gate II: Yoshimo (pre-Spellhold) because he's cool (and tragic), Imoen (post-Spellhold) because she's been there since the start and even if she wasn't, I just spent the past however-many-frickin'-hours getting to Spellhold to rescue her in the first place, and Minsc cause, well, he's Minsc. I want to bring Keldorn along too because of his having written the book on how to be a Paladin that isn't a Lawful Stupid Knight Templar, but I can never bring myself to resolve his personal quest with anything but letting him go home and be a family man.

^ Same. Poor Keldorn's wife. :(
In BG 2, I bring Edwin if I'm not playing a mage myself, and I use a mod to keep him from leaving the group if I'm not evil. I like having diverse alignments in my Dn D adventuring parties, with at least one complete bastard to balance out the good/neutral characters.
I always bring Imoen in both BG games, because it wouldn't be Baldurs Gate without her.

Mog in Final Fantasy VI.
I hear he's a mid-tier character, but I always pick him in team because "nonhuman = awesome".
The way you say that makes it sound like Bulbasaur's your all-purpose utility tool.
It's more frustrating waiting for the asskicking than the asskicking itself.
