So, to conclude, Compulsory Eugenics is stupid because it's impossible to enforce, yes? Compulsory screening, on the other hand... nah, it's unenforceable too.

So the idea is moot anyway?

It might work somewhat if you brainwash the populace into accepting it from... birth.

But it's kinda hard to get to that point.

Nah, most probably it'll become the socially prevalent thing. Rebels, such as people who still dare to make children the old-fashined way, will be treated the same way people who baptize their kids and send them to saturday/sunday school, or people who take the Hippy lifestyle: harmless weirdos. Though some people will fronw upon them for being irresponsible parents, the same way I expect parents who won't sign up their kids to cryonics from birth to be frowned upon.

I think this thread is get rather preoccupied with Medical Termination of Pregnancy. It's just one part of proactive evolution. There are lots non abortion realated tactics for discussion.

Agreed: test-tube babies (you can select sperm and eggs - or is selecting sperm killing babies too?), genetic screening of parents, paying the unfit not to breed, making it easier for the unfit to adopt, paying the fit to have more kids (including indirectly by giving them discounts on child products and services) ... the sky's the limit!

You do know that eugenics is bull right? Good luck getting any real number of scientists or politicians actively working towards laws like that.

The only way anyone could ever implement Eugenics is slowly, little by little. If someone said "I say we should pass a law that legalizes and makes mandatory Eugenics" all the moral guardians and Christians (including myself) would flip. However, if they did it piece by piece, little by little, it might work.

This is why people like myself refuse to budge on issues like this: slippery slope isn't a logical fallacy, it is logically the only way we could lose.

What do you mean exactly by "Eugenics is bull"? Eugenics is a word that covers a lot of things, from forced sterilization of blacks to parents deciding to adopt after finding they both carry the recessive allele for a rare genetic disorder to abstract theory about evolutionary pressures in modern society.

At most you could say that the word "Eugenics" is very unfashionable nowadays, and I agree it is. But it's a wide category, and if you want to say whether some aspects are factually incorrect or morally wrong, you'll have to be more accurate. Giving general praise or condemnation to vague labels is a cheap trick for politicians.
