I agree with splitting off cowgirl. I think the trope description gives that type of character only a brief description and that most of the description actually does not apply to that type at all.
I do think that what the trope most needs is probably examples though.

I was just noticing that of the "subtypes" listed on the Cowboy page, "Cowgirl" is a poor fit.
She's actually referred to as a Distaff Counterpart, but she doesn't have her own trope. And the other subtypes are actually good about not using "Cowboy" as a generic "Western Guy" term; they actually all do work with cows to some extent, while the Cowgirl more often than not doesn't directly work with cattle.
