Character Development Thread--Discussion

"Behold", the Fair map v3.◊ Basically just updated the names and recolored one of the buildings so it would stand out from the background better.

Still would prefer a real map, but I don't want to pay to scan a drawing in and I don't really have any way of making one on my computer, so unless someone else wants to make one I'm going to settle for this.

Belated edit: And I have no particular preference as to when to start the thread tomorrow. I may not join immediately anyway.

There's no real reason not to start now, honestly.

Personally, I've always thought of the portals (or other standard entry methods) as just a convenient plot device if one doesn't want to think of an unusual way that their character arrives by, or has writer's block about how to have their character arrive. (Both of which have happened to me.) They're obviously just meant as options, not requirements.

As for the Hotel, I think one is perfectly fine. (I'm probably not planning on using it anyways.) And if one really wants, they could always make up a new one just down the street or something.

I might have some time to make a more detailed map (possibly this weekend) but only if we think it would be useful?

And as always, I'm up for starting whenever. (But I won't have much of any time during the day tomorrow, because of work. )

Are we going to set up bottle rockets?

You volunteered to run it and keep track of time and weather and whatnot, which would be hard to manage if you didn't post the OP and had to wait for me to actually come and edit the post. I can't guarantee that I'll be around all the time.

Alternatively, if we're okay with permanently moving the Current Time and Weather to the trope page, I'll launch it. Whatever, I don't care.

I'll be posting soon, but not right this second. There's something else I'm in the middle of working on and would like to finish first.

I just got back from the movies, and I'm celebrating my cousin's birthday, so posting may be a while.

Dropped two of my characters in.

I have two tests coming up on Monday and Tuesday. I'm a little behind because I've been sick and all, so I'll need to spend the weekend studying for those. I should be joining on Wednesday. (I usually have an evening lab that day, but it's been cancelled, yaaaaayyy)

Not entirely sure if I should have my characters make a stand or not. Even then I'm not sure what sort of stand they'd even have.

Incidentally if there are more than one characters, they all don't have to be at the stand at the same time, do they?

Not unless you want them to be for in-character reasons.

I keep worrying that the number of stands is too high relative to the number of "normal" characters already, so if you don't really care either way I'd recommend against it.

I'm still working on that Halloween casual thread proposal (I should have a preliminary writeup tomorrow or Sunday, I think), but looking at some of the other proposed casual threads, Cantina III did make me think of something. I've mentioned before that Resort was sort of my personal perfect storm moment as far as CDTs go, but I'm not sure I've ever explicitly said that one of the elements that made it that way was that Cantina II set up a lot of the relationships - almost acting as a prologue of sorts. It wasn't always as direct as it was with the "reptilian love triangle", but an awful lot of characters from Cantina II wound up showing up in Resort, and I feel that having them all know each other created a sort of extra emotional investment in that thread, at least for me.

So while I'm not necessarily proposing it for Cantina III should that ever happen - and, again, I explicitly want to try and move away from the Resort model a little for our next casual thread - I just wanted to float the idea out there of maybe trying to deliberately replicate that to some degree sometime, by having a small, relatively short casual thread followed by a longer, larger thread (not necessarily casual) with many of the same characters in both. It would require somewhat longer-term thinking then usual, and I'll admit I don't know how much it would benefit the real purpose of the threads (I like CDT continuity, but it's ultimately kind of a side dish), but I figured I should at least mention the idea now that I've had it.

@Sonzai: If Ila can see Adelphos' connection to his copies, she should be able to sense his connection to the squirrels...although I guess you can pretend the connection is too diluted.
