Fairly simple, the body uses ATP to work itself. When starving this ATP dwindles until it runs out and the body dies. Refeeding syndrome is when the starving body takes in too much food at once. The rest of the ATP is used to start the process of metabolizing sugar for more ATP but it can't finish due to the volume of food, thus the body runs out of ATP and dies.
So when dealing with a starving person you have to feed them little at first and build it up as their store of ATP grows. It's one of the reasons I'm really glad I wasn't in WWII, being the person that has to take away food from concentration camp victims because if you don't they'll literally eat until they die sounds like one of the most horrifying Cache 22's I can think of.
Stoned hippie without the stoned. Or the hippie. My AO3 Page, grab a chair and relax.Sorry about the homework.
Speaking of which, I'll be/I should be busy for most of tomorrow studying for a final. I'll try to post for Frontier tonight, then no promises until Wednesday afternoon. Whichever global afternoon suits you, I'm sure I won't hit any.
every little word and every little stepHeh. But that's what makes it fun.
Trouble with me/my current work-in-progress is that my work has, as it's central point, something that's scientifically implausible so I try to counter/balance that by being as realistic as possible about everything else and that's how I try to treat any situation the Mad Bastards get into, including in the CDTs - so considering refeeding syndrome and all the myriad other problems of starvation is about par for the course.
I'm going to have to put off posting until tomorrow again. I actually have most of a post formed, but it's too late at night (and I can't stay up however long I want now that I'm not living on my own).
Ah, if only Lupin were still in the wagon - I feel he would have had a lot of advice to offer regarding starvation, having gone through it several times himself, and is anorexic to boot (anyone else notice the last thing he ate in the thread was half a cup of soup the previous night?). But oh well, Ryuhza did at least give me something for one of my remaining characters to work with regarding him.
I'll try to get in a post tonight. This week in general will be busy for me though, as I have to fix a few cosplay items for this anime convention I'm attending this weekend.
EDIT: I decided to do a very short post (short by my standards anyway) in Dream II with just Gon, as I noticed some activity among the SF group all of a sudden and wanted to join in for some reason.

Come, my child of the devil. Your mother is calling you. Hear my call in Hell's grand hall, where all our dreams come true.Speaking of Dream... can I drop someone else in the San Francisco group? I've got an idea I'm pretty sure I couldn't do in other threads, for reasons that will become clear eventually, but would be perfect here. A lost young girl looking for her aunt.

So, I want to get involved aroundn here, but I don't know where to start. How should I introduce my characters? Should I give you guys a profile in case you want to write something and want a rough idea of their personality? Or does it work in such a way that you can write about it and a justification based off of personality and goals can come later? Also, is there a recap of what has happened so far? I like a bit of an archive binge, but this is still a lot.
Why, hello newcomer!
No need to archive binge! You can just drop off your character wherever you like. Our current threads at the moment are Frontier and Dream II!
There's no need to write a profile for your characters. Their personalities should come across through your writing.
Gave them our reactions, our explosions, all that was ours For graphs of passion and charts of stars...Awesome. Thanks for the clarification, guys!
@Savlamar/Eterna Memoria: Is it still Sav's turn? I need to know so I know when to post.
Ya, I'm weird like that...It's still my turn if I haven't posted, so yes, it was my turn. But now I have posted, so it is your turn. Then it will be Eterna's turn, and then my turn, and then your turn, and then Eterna's, and so on.
My Dream post is a bit long, but there's a ton of exposition in it, so maybe it's justified, maybe not.
Posted in Frontier as well, and had the satisfaction of seeing how Blair's gambit paid off thanks to KC posting right after. ^.^ Love it when that happens (although I'm so rarely able to pull it off for others :/).
I may not post until tomorrow. Again. I'm actually writing a post as I speak, but it's a pretty wearying effort with, I think, no fewer than six others to respond to.

@ KillerClowns: We're a bit slow moving unfortunately, but sure.
@ madprophet: Welcome to the CDTs!
Still a great "screw depression" song even after seven years.Classes are kind of killing me.
The last battle's curtains will open on stage!Hey, what'd you get for number 5?
every little word and every little step@Savlamar: Ok, I just wanted to make sure before I posted, I didn't want anyone to feel left out. I will post here in a bit, I have a lot of exposition/backstory to do too!
Ya, I'm weird like that...Who do I have to meme to get some life back in Frontier? Cause I'll do it. ;D
You can't use memes to solve all of your problems, Author.
Gave them our reactions, our explosions, all that was ours For graphs of passion and charts of stars......the mind-killer.
WATCH ME.
Fear? No, memes are the mind-killer.
...I'll get to a post now.
Life is hard, that's why no one survives.
I am familiar with that, though not by that name; my point is that the topic in general isn't really one I can wing it on (but that the characters would know at least something about).
