Hanabi Kozui: The Flame-throwing Kappa
"Gaze at the mighty flames of science!"
Species: Kappa
Age: 98
Appearence: Long, unkempt orange hair that falls to her knees, a maroon worker's cap, a blue fireproof jacket, black pants with red flame patterns at the bottom, purple boots.
Abilities: Like all Kappa, she has a natural affinity for water and mechanical engeneering. But due to her unusual facination with fire, she's specialised in pyrotechics and built herself a flamethrower.
Personality: With a habit for being overdramatic, she willingly exiled herself from Kappa society. She now lives in the Misty Lake, where she practices her pyrotechical skills as much as she pleases.
She's quite jovial, and is just as willing to share a drink with a random stranger as she is to turn that drink into a molotov cocktail.
Associated Tropes: Making a Splash, Pyromaniac, Playing with Fire, Kill It with Fire, Gadgeteer Genius
Spellcards
- Flame Sign "Molotov Cocktail Surprise": Woah! She's started throwing flaming bottles of alcohol at you! Such a waste...
- New Years "Fireworks Finale": Are all those fireworks handmade...? Impressive!
- Boiling Sign "Ol' Faithful": She's using her water and fire abilities to attack! This is a Kappa that knows what she's doing.
- Eruption "Mt. St. Helens": Is...Is she throwing herself at you and exploding?! She's crazy!
- "Cyclone of Fire": She's just spinning around and holding the trigger on her flamethrower...For a final attack, this isn't very creative.

"Seriously, don't eat the mermaid. And not just because it's half cannibalism." ~Otherarrow- Kusari Omoriku
(Character made by WORLD Tree)
(Picture by WORLD Tree)Kusari is a tsukumogami of a kusarigama, a ninja weapon crafted from a small sickle. He was made 300 years ago by a disgruntled peasant who attempted to be a ninja, but proved incompetent at every aspect of this, including the construction of his weapon. Reflecting his second-rate construction, Kusari has very poor constitution. He is about 5'11" and weighs about 115 pounds. (180cm and 52kg, for the metrically minded)
After a painful run in with a powerful Youkai, he has a great fear of most everyone in Gensokyo. In order to understand the most powerful individuals so that he could better avoid them, he saved up whatever loose change he could find to purchase a copy of the Gensokyo Chronicles (known to us as PMiSS). He keeps this book on him at all times, and frequently scribbles his own notes & annotations into the margins.
He has the ability to summon mundane kama if he knows their location, or create his own, but the ones he creates are as frail as he is. However, he manages to squeeze some use out of this by creating tiny kama keychains, which wen summoned, also bring whatever they're attached to with them. If forced into battle, he can create a giant kama to intimidate foes, but as it's still fairly weak and unwieldy besides, so he doesn't really have any true fighting ability.
Not like he'd want to anyway. He much prefers to avoid everyone at all times whenever possible, and has mapped out over 800 paths around Gensokyo to do just that. He stays holed up and hidden, and even then worries about the information that's not in the chronicles. It says nothing on those new goddesses that just moved into Gensokyo and their shrine maiden, for example. How is he supposed to know how to avoid them? What to do to pacify them if he ever has the horrible luck to encounter one?
And so he stays, forever reclusive, forever hiding, forever afraid.
Tropes Associated with Kusari:
- The Dreaded: Every single other character worth mentioning, be it in canon Touhou or other OC's on this thread, or what have you, is this to Kusari.
- Non-Action Guy: Taken up to 11; he flees from anything even remotely resembling a confrontation.
- Screams Like a Little Girl: I have no way to confirm it, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I make video games! Or plan to, anyway.Hm... I was eager to repost Yukine because I believed she could benefit from added discussion (which unfortunately didn't happen). Nozomi, on the other hand, felt more or less complete to me. Though I suppose it wouldn't hurt to post a new writeup anyway, for posterity, if nothing else.
First, Hanabi sends out five to seven rockets in a circle outward, rotating clockwise starting from the top. Then she dashes to the right and fires off rockets toward several spots to the left, then jumps up a bit to fire a couple more rockets downward. She then moves back to her original position and does all this again, but flipped vertically. (Counterclockwise, then to the right, then down again). Lather, rinse, repeat.
Also, this spellcard has the anti-timeout mechanic of spiraling at a faster speed as time goes on.

This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...Can I just say that you managed to describe St. Helens and Fireworks exactly as I envisioned them? Cause that's awesome.
Hanabi's bringing back the fire, baby. Literally. Fire Danmaku hasn't been used since EOSD
"Seriously, don't eat the mermaid. And not just because it's half cannibalism." ~OtherarrowYou mean the fireball bullets Patchouli uses for her fire spellcards in EOSD? Yeah, sometimes I wish ZUN would make more custom bullets like those. They were a nice touch.
I know there was Unzan's fists and Murasa's anchors in SA UFO, but it just doesn't have the same feel to it as the fireball bullets, you know?

But yeah, that's what I ment. Makes me wish I had a lick of programming knowledge so I could actually do this shit :V
"Seriously, don't eat the mermaid. And not just because it's half cannibalism." ~OtherarrowI figured that I'd be helpful, so I uploaded Suketchi's and Kyuuki's picture to the TV Tropes database.

"Seriously, don't eat the mermaid. And not just because it's half cannibalism." ~OtherarrowI know I said that I'd republish someone every other day, but I'd kind of like to not have 3 publishings on 1 page.
Back in the old thread, whenever a toon came up, discussion would last for somewhere between 2-4 days before fading off. But now, the discussions don't even start to begin with. You new guys do realize that there's more to it than throwing out your own characters, right? This is named after the Alternate Character Interpretation Compendium for a reason. You're supposed to read other people's toons, especially when they actually get published, and discuss them. Give your own ideas about their personality and abilities, consider their relationships with other characters, even write some mini-fics like the kind that litter the ACIC if that's your fancy. This is why I even have the queue system instead of just letting everyone run amok. The queue system (and the poll system that preceded it) is intended to put the spotlight on one or two toons, so that they can be discussed and fleshed out.
In fact, at the end of the day, this thread is not really about "I have this OC, let me tell you about her" as much as it is about "I have this concept, do you have any suggestions on how I can develop this into a good OC". This is really why I'm so desperate to get interests and get my own OC's published, because my OC's are essentially half-formed, and I'm seeking out advice, ideas, and even criticisms that will help me make them into fully-formed, good characters.
That being said, since I'm not republishing Tenshou (next on the list) until later, I will, as leader, spearhead my own request and talk about Hanabi.
Your name is HANABI KOZUI.
You are a KAPPA, but you have EXILED yourself from kappa society in an OVERLY DRAMATIC GESTURE. You have done this numerous times, but always go back because MECHANICAL PARTS are scarce anywhere else in Gensokyo. Not quite as numerous are your INTERESTS. You, above all else, have a passion for FIRE, which, combined with the natural affinity for WATER that all kappa have, gives you a RATHER PARADOXICAL set of ABILITIES. You spend most of your waking hours crafting and using FLAMETHROWERS, and have quite a collection stocked up. When not dabbling in pyrotechnics, you enjoy playing BOARD GAMES INVOLVING GIANT MONSTERS with your FRIENDS.
What will you do?
Quickly retrieve arms-
The Suggestion Box has been burnt to a crisp.
Pumpkin?
The Pumpkin is totally there, and now it is on fire.
I took a few liberties, adding in info that Metaflare didn't mention. I mean, Metaflare never said she wasn't a Monsterpocalypse fan, right? I'd like to encourage people to take liberties and come up with their own ideas about other's toons.
As a side note, I really like how Hanabi has both water powers and fire powers. You don't see many people with both of those at once, and it really helps extinguish distinguish her against the other fire-users.
I make video games! Or plan to, anyway.Does it? Mokou's a hourai immortal who possibly deliberately uses a phoenix motif. Kisume has the bucket. UTSUHO HAS MINISUNS AND DAT CAPE. And also? the 4th priamry fire user is Patchouli, who uses 7 elementes, 2 of which being fire and water.
Shhe'd probably need to carry around a BFG-like flamethrower to distinguish herself against immortality, buckets, nuclear fusion and an additional 5 elements.
...wait. that idea is awesome. Make it happen. BFG-like flamethrower, in our Touhou? much more liekyl than we think!
The Pumpkin is totally there, and now it is on fire.
This is what sold it for me.
Well done, you did a good MSPA-style introduction for Hanabi. And yes, she would prolly play boardgames with giant monsters involved.
"Seriously, don't eat the mermaid. And not just because it's half cannibalism." ~OtherarrowAll of the buildings she uses would be skyscrapers and oil refineries and other things that leave fire tiles when destroyed, and her monster would be the fire elemental guy so she could further ignite everything.
I make video games! Or plan to, anyway.I just had a thought. The kappas are all about technology, right? So eventually, they'll be working with metals (if they aren't already). And that requires tremendous amounts of heat, right?
I bet they'd love to have Hanabi back to run their furnaces.

This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...They don't really need her. That was the whole point of feeding the Yatagarasu to Utsuho, remember?
I thought that was to provide electricity so Kanako could play Gradius V for the millionth time.
it was the Kappa Industrial Revolution Project, you know.
I don't know for sure whether they use the heat of the subterranean sun to process metals and other materials, but regardless, I imagine they'd need someone who knows how to regulate temperature output to keep it at a certain level. You wouldn't want things to be too hot (or not hot enough) for certain processes.
This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...Judging by Okuu's Dialog in Hisoutensoku, she does that too.
Significant drop in reactor core temperatures requires urgent attention.
The foreign substance is to be immediately eradicated!
I just remembered that Marisa also makes fireworks, though her's are magical in nature instead of pyrotechical.
POSSIBLE RIVALRY MAYHAPS?
"KIRISAME, HOW DARE YOU IMPEDE ON MY TERRITORY"
"lol wut"
"Seriously, don't eat the mermaid. And not just because it's half cannibalism." ~OtherarrowAnd then, in the next game, Marisa uses some fire-based spellcards.
I make video games! Or plan to, anyway.Another one for the queue:
Chieko (family name still undecided)
(Title also still undecided)
An brilliant scholar from the human village. She has the ability to bend space, and her spellcards are based on Alien Geometries. She's technically a low-level youkai exterminator, but only when Keine-sensei isn't available to protect the village, and usually just against minor threats.
"This is just like origami!"

I'd look at you like that, but I have to get busy too.
