Ao no Exorcist

I'm calling it right now, the principal is a demon. He has pointy teeth and ears, he can turn into an animal (something no one else can do) for no adequately explained reason and, oh yeah, his name is Mephistopheles.

This guy is so Obviously Evil it hurts.

The fact that he's a demon is pretty bloody obvious. What remains to be seen is whose side he's on.

I'm wondering if he's actually the Mephistopheles or if it's just like a codename.

Part of the third episode kind of bothers me; Rin claims that revenge has nothing to do with his desire to become an exorcist, but didn't he just say last episode that he wants to get strong enough to kick Satan's ass? If not for revenge, then why?

Well, if he's not the Mephistofeles he's definitiely using his schtick. (Although he turned into the wrong breed, that's no poodle)

Well, he did explain in this episode that he wants to be strong enough that people don't have to put themselves in danger to protect him. Being capable of handing Satan his backside would probably accomplish that.

I'm really enjoying the show so far. It's a bit generically shounen, but after all of the crazy shit I've watched this season, I am completely okay with that.

No naked space hugs with goddesses anywhere to be found.

I like how Rin and Yukio's relationship so far has seemed like a complete subversion of Ed and Al's.

I wasn't really looking forward to this week's episodes because I knew everything that would happen =/ In reality what I can't wait for is next week's episode, it's when all the characters start to interact, and I have to say that I LOVE Bon, so I'm looking forward to him actually speaking up now.

Their dynamic is so funny.

It looks like more people will be introduced next episode, so that's nice.

Same here. I like Shiemi's intro, but getting to everyone else in the class was what I was really waiting for. Especially that rivalry thing going on.

Huh. Just noticed that these episodes have stingers instead of typical anime On the Next catches. Now i have to watch the other episodes to find tiny instances of plot and/or small jokes.

Also, Yukio and Rin are like some of the best brothers ever.

Has no one besides me noticed that Masakaki and Mephisto could practically be brothers/twins?

New episode out. I should really be used to Impossibly Cool Clothes by now, but all I can think of when I look at those exorcism teachers is how hot they must all be in their uniform greatcoats indoors.

Another interesting thing about this show is how well it avoids Generic Cuteness. Nearly every character has something derpy about their design.

This episode was what I was waiting for, it was perfect!

At first I thought Bon's voice was out of place, but it grew on me, it soon fit just fine.

Filler next week, but it's great to see some original anime material! I'll be waiting for it.

Oh, something I've ben wondering: Rin fights using his sword, which allows him to use daddy's power. But wouldn't Satan's power make demons stronger'? It'd be like Healing Shiv to them, wouldn't it?

Nah, I don't think demons function like zombies.

Indeed. I mean, they're demons. Where would the fun be if they couldn't hurt each other?

The sword itself is a demon-slaying sword that, when sheathed, keeps Rin's power in check. So, I suppose one can say it's not really the sword that lets him use the power, but the sheath that prevents him from using it. Or something like that...yeah.
