Wow...

I'll definitely be following this.

Masakaki rules.

There are a lot of things going on in those credits Here is the list of English words I spotted:

  • "I Have Control" flashes for an instant
  • The black background with letters on it says "NV_ERS_ION" (N-version? what?) see further down
  • "ED sequence for noitamina 26th episode... has no name, but it called 'C' " Wonder if the next episode will change the 26 into a 25.
  • "MI_DAS" is the name of the bank...
  • OH! The large "C" that appears next has various words, that all begin with C, in it. There is "Conviction," "Conversion" (not nversion), "Capital," and "Credit." Makes me wonder what the extra N & T are for.
  • Stopping the C at the end, reveals that there are a couple more words (but the letters are mirrored): "Collateral" and "Chocolate" along with another "N"

Yes, one of those things is not like the others. No, I did not make it up. Consider my mind scewed.

Now all I can think of are "A"nalysts, "B"rokers, "C"ommissions, and "D"ow Jones

Why would they do that ? [C] is indeed the 26th Noitamin A show. (full list here)

Man, that OP and ED were even more of a Design Student's Orgasm than Eden Of The East. Still, my most-looked-forward-to show of the season has gotten off to a good start, and Noitamina has yet to let me down, so I got high hopes.

I loved the first episode! Didn't make a goddamn sense and yet I'm looking forward to the next one.

Just watched and I loved it. Definitely will be a (possibly the) series I follow this season. Those credit cards of theirs reminded me of the cool cell phones in Eden Of The East- the series kind of made me think of Eden Of The East Meets Gankutsuou (because of the strong feeling of being on LSD while watching it).

Edit- I thought the plot made a fair amount of sense- obviously, people are lured into a Deal with the Devil- I'm guessing that if they get defeated in the game world than they die or something bad happens to them in the real world.

Are people really that confused by it?

I mean we haven't been told the mechanics, but the plot is pretty straight forward.

Young, poor, and hardworking man who wants to grow up and have a nice family is tempted by the devil into placing his future as collateral in a get rich quick scheme that probably involves morally questionable activities.

Looks as though high finance is being symbolically compared to Satan and his devils.

I did really like how the devil couldn't tempt him with unlimited wealth, and so came back and tempted him with ~$5,000~ as an advance payment, and the kid bit at it.

So it is in real life too. Offer millions with a possibility of something morally questionable, and most people instinctively think "too good to be true, stay away." But offer something small, like a thousand dollar bank error in your favor, and people can't resist.

[up][up]Losing doesn't directly kill you. It just means that all of your money is gone. All of it.

Hence, subsequent suicide.

What's precedent ever done for us?

They lose their "future", duh. Opportunities, possibilities, whatever. Lifespan is supposedly a part of it, but only a part.

I guess it's oddly appropo that this show's own budget looks very much on the "shoestring" side of things.

Well, that was certainly...well, I'm not quite sure what, other than that it was.

Hanabi's cute, will be interesting to see where that side of plot goes, I wonder if they'll make it a bit more nuanced than the standard "bad boyfriend" angle.

I too liked Hanabi and I really do hope she doesn't disappear in a couple of episodes to make way for the horned summon girl.

[up][up][up]Well, compared to the others shows I'm watching right now, this is easily the weakest one, art-wise, especially compared to another one of this studio's shows I'm watching at the moment, Sket Dance.

Now that say, I don't think the show itself is bad or anything. Just rather weird. I'm afraid that the talk of the difficult of finding good jobs and stuff is going to depress me, since just like Yoga, I'm a college student who still hasn't quite worked out his future yet.

@Sackett Well, of course the plot's straightforward. It's just more fun to exaggerate. I mean after Trapeze this is pretty par for the course. tl;dr Sorry I was just trying to stir up some discussion on the more mysterious aspects of the show.

[up] It's bad art-wise? Man I must really suck at judging art quality.

There's nothing wrong with this show's art.

The art is fine, above-average even. Maybe you don't like the style, but that has nothing to do with the budget.

Okay, I know art is supposed to be subjective and all, but if I must defend my stance, I see a noticeable difference when comparing say, this and this to this, this, and this.

Wow, the first two have much better backgrounds don't they? You've convinced me, great production values. As for the art style, eh, I don't mind it.

[up][up]Ah, you mean the character models. Yes, they are rather stylistic, but they are that way on purpose. This is not a show trying to sell itself with things that make sense so the Off-Model character designs mostly fit right in. And the worst two (the con-man and the driver) are not even human for all that we know.

When you said "the weakest one, art-wise" people thought you were talking as a whole. If you look at the backgrounds and CGI effects, they are far from low-budget.

So in this show, we have some kind of diabolical clown-thing forcing its way into the main character's apartment and convincing him to make a Faustian bargain with a sinister investment bank...

Please tell me I'm not the only one seeing some subtext in that?

Ok, so you don't like the character designs. That doesn't mean its badly animated.

[up]I'm not talking about the Deal with the Devil per se. It's more that it's made with a financial institution rather than the Devil.

I mean... an evil banking system drawing hapless people into selling away their futures? In the current economic climate?
