Well, this game most likely is built for people with Alt-itis, seeing it has shared stash to put gears that'll fit your alt.
My Engineer has decided that Spider Mines are incredibly powerful.
this is completely true. Those things are so useful.
XP granted for befriending a giant magical spider!I concur, the spider mines are quite strong. Charging into battle with all 9 out will wipe mooks out and leave you free to whack/blast the champion's face off. Much better than the gun bot, at least to me. The damage is fine, but the cooldown is kind of disappointing, it has horrible aim, and the thing makes a skittering sound as it walks that annoys me a bit (yes, it was me who put that in the YMMV page).
In Embermage news, the Wand Chaos passive is pretty damn entertaining once you have some points in it. Building up charge with your wand is no longer a chore if there are random meteors and acid rain thrown into the fray.

Oh, the thread? Don't worry, it's just dead.Honestly, I love Engineer just because I can run around with 14 different things following me blindly into battle. Nine spider mines, a heal bot, turret bot, my pet and her two summons (skeleton and netherling) all charging after an angry looking Engineer with a Wraith Lord's hammer is quite a sight to see.
I guess we could go... wherever we please.Apparently the spider mines don't scale well at higher difficulties and NG+ levels unless you stack % minion damage, which gimps your character's own viability.
The gun bot actually does massive damage when he's in range. The damage number in the description is per bullet, and he shoots 5 of those per second. I can't imagine how crazy he'll become once he gets the spread shot...
In other news, I started up my own Berserker. Everything dies crazy fast. Including me if I'm not really careful. Those ******* bugbear casters with the ice tornadoes!...

XP granted for befriending a giant magical spider!I know, but still, it has horrid aim. Maybe the scattershot will solve that, as you say.
And yes, those bastards are a huge pain, especially if you're even slightly squishy like my embermage is. Although I prefer to call them yeti wizards (especially because I always forget their real name).

Oh, the thread? Don't worry, it's just dead.I need to stop looking at this thread, or else I'd just die of envy; for some reason, even though my system passes the minimum requirements and installs the game properly, it kicks out with no error message when I attempt to run the game. Sigh.
Still finishing: a whole lot of shows from Fall 2013 and Winter 2014.I noticed that the gunbot tends to train properly on my target when I stand still and use only my auto-attack.
so, after having built up a nice selection of uniques for an embermage(including a ring with +35% fire damage!), I decided to finally make one. I've been putting it off for so long because I couldn't be sure how I was going to build her, but that ring kinda finalized that decision for me.
now around level 16. She's a lot more mobile than any of my other characters, mostly because she needs to be. Primary skills so far are magma mace and the level 1 ice bolts skill.
a notable discovery, the wand chaos passive. It says it procs of wand hits and those 3 skills, but that's not quite true. I've 100% for sure seen it proccing from magma mace. This leads me to believe it can proc of any skills that uses % weapon damage so long as you're using wands.
XP granted for befriending a giant magical spider!I'm just about to go and fight the Nether King after over 17 hours of play. My Engineer exclusively uses Firehammer, the giant swing hammer, and the Medbot skills. All the other skill points go to passives.
Shamelessly plugging my comics, Oh yes.Not for mine, although I focused mine on lightning skills, which for now have been mostly death ray style stuff with several hits per second, which would trigger some deliciously OP meteor spam if wand chaos was involved, so maybe it's single hit skills affected by wand DPS.
Oh, the thread? Don't worry, it's just dead. For my engineer, I've elected to go Flame Hammer, Blast Cannon, Healing Bot and Gun Bot with every other skill point going to passives.

I now go by Graf von Tirol. You might want to consider respeccing some points into Emberquake if you still have the chance. Unless you have five charges almost all the time its range and damage outclass Flame Hammer if you have any fire damage boosts at all.
EDIT: After clearing the game on Veteran as a 2-Hander Engineer with roundabout 40-50 deaths, I'm currently running a Cannoneer and a Berserker on the same difficulty and aiming for a deathless run.

HEY GUYS YOU KNOW THOSE GHOSTLY MOTHERFUCKERS WHO SUMMON THOSE GODDAMN MANA WISPS THAT DO A FUCKTON OF DAMAGE
IMAGINE A CHAMPION OF ONE OF THOSE GUYS
NOW IMAGINE HE HAS THE DIVIDING TRAIT
HATEHATEHATEHATEHATEHATEHATEHATEHATE ALL MY HATE FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK SO MANY MANA WISPS
I feel ya man. RNG is good for keeping things fresh but certain combinations should never happen.
On a related note, my cannon Engineer is now my last hope for a deathless run with the current batch of characters. I really have to stop spacing out.
I've never noticed those mana meteors actually doing anything.
Now, those swarms of summoned mana wisps with their homing mana bolts? That's where the real problem is.
XP granted for befriending a giant magical spider!I died twice before I killed them all.
so i just died because my character was shooting instead of moving when i clicked to move
i really hate that about these games
I just unlocked shockbolts with the embermage, and it would have proven disappointing (crappy damage) except for a few things:
-There are four bolts
-They can hit multiple enemies
-They're so slow and take such odd trajectories they hit some enemies several times
-Wand Chaos applies to each individual hit.
I have 22% chance in Wand Chaos effects. In short, what an effing mess do I make in a few seconds.

Oh, the thread? Don't worry, it's just dead.huh, I thought it was odd how wand chaos worked on the tier 1 skills for fire and ice and the tier 6 skill for lightning. So I guess it's worth the wait?
I finally got tired of playing my squishy embermage and my squishy but easy to heal with berserker, and have gone back to my tank engineer. No more getting instagibbed by a lucky salvo from a ranged pack!
XP granted for befriending a giant magical spider!i really hate that about these games
The problem was present in TL 1 as well and was never addressed even with mods. Outside the series I've only encountered the problem in Titan Quest and I'm not sure what causes it. I don't think it's a (sub-)genre-wide problem because I don't recall seeing it in Sacred and Loki.
Alt-itis is the way to go with this game. Roll a new character whenever you feel like it and keep him/her and who knows? You may tire of your Elite NG+++++ powerhouse or be despaired by a Hardcore death somewhere down the road and your old love(s) will be there to cheer you up .
