Well the director isn't that important though, considering that the movie will almost certainly have a bunch of reshoots anyway.

Sigh, it's going to be another Thor TDW situation isn't it. Directed by committee.

That, and Suicide Squad, and Fantastic Four, and Justice League.

A major issue already mentioned is that Steppenwolf as the villain only makes sense as a precursor to Darkseid, removing nearly all references to Darkseid made Steppenwolf much more shallow and generic. In addition, removing references to the Bad Future "Knightmare" or other elements of the DC universe (we know Steppenwolf reference Lanterns, but rumors say Bruce and Diana talk about them too) also streamlined the plot to a ridiculous degree.

That leads to another problem, very few characters get a really cinematic introduction and as a result it doesn't do a very good job trying to sell us on seeing more of them. In the very first comic con trailer Aquaman gets a dramatic turn around after Bruce is asking about a "stranger on the king tide." In the movie Arthur is already facing him directly and telling him to leave, removing a sense of mystery and grandeur. A number of Atlantis scenes are also cut. While they might have the Aquaman movie around the corner, there are memes about how little Aquaman contributes as a character or his mythology in Justice League, which won't help Aquaman.

Hard pass. One of the few things I’d say the movie did unambiguously right was NOT going for the “team breaks up” plot points.

That competition movie will only work as long as the audience knows the League isn't gonna break up or seriously want to fight each other.

In this day of constant hero vs hero shit its just tiring & lazy at this point.

Well, that is the result of them removing most of Zack's vision of the film.

Ian Chen from Fresh Off the Boat has joined Shazam as Eugene, one of the other foster kids. Armand Jovan will play Pedro, another of the kids.

Oh, godsdamn it, it's gonna be new52 Billy.

I liked that Billy. It’s still the same lesson as classic Billy it’s just that here he’s the one learning it instead of teaching it.

I hated him. Okay, yeah, so you wanna make Billy a dick because there's no perfect people and everybody in the new52 has to be a dick. Fine. But there's a huge, ginormous problem with that. Literally any and all of his foster siblings are better people than Billy and would have made much, much better Captain Marvels than him.

So, a new "I'm Marvel...I'm DC" vid is out. not sure how it will be received here, but I think you might get a few laughs out of it.

Except we see in the Wizard’s magic vision that despite his pissy exterior he still actually did good and was a good person at heart.

Later he draws the bullies away from Freddie. When he finds out that Black Adam was once a champion like him, chosen to lead his people he rushes off tconvinced that all he has to do is talk to the guy and sympathise with him to make him back down,

In that whole story he was characterised as a good kid who was lashing out because he was too afraid of getting hurt, and the ending implied that he’s on his way to moving past that. Except that Johns got busy and wouldn’t let anyone else write it so we never got a follow up.

The director actually says Billy is not going to be a dick in this version. They are probably not going to have him talk like a walking anachronism but they aren't going as extreme as Johns did.

Seems like a good compromise to me.

Any word if this is supposed to be part of the DCEU or not?

They're probably just taking some of the concepts from the New 52 version (like the Marvel Family as listed here). But leaving aside the more "iffy" elements (like "jerk Billy").

I wonder if they might do the whole "Shazam can give a portion of his power to the others" thing in a potential sequel?

I kinda liked the idea of walking anachronism Billy. Mostly for the humor factor.

New 52 Billy's not much of a jerk beyond the first two pages. And I say this as someone with his own issues with the New 52.

Justice League is getting released early on DVD in Asian markets and so the first three minutes have been publicly released.

Judging by that cell phone video's height, those are some really tall kids.

Also the Special Effects Failure on Cavill's face is really apparent.

I legitimately can't tell, to be honest.

I legit don't get why they had to go through that trouble. Wouldn't it be so much easier for Cavill to just shave?
