Exactly What It Says on the Tin. If a friend was interested in listening to your favourite band/artist, which tracks would you stick on a CD to get them started?

The CD must be no more than 10 tracks long. You can either include your 10 personal favourites or the 10 tracks that you think would get someone into this band/artist who had no prior knowledge of them.

Bonus points awarded if you can make a playlist and provide a link to it.

I'll take some time to think about mine before posting it and see if this takes off in the meantime tongue.

GO!

Sonic Youth

Since this is supposed to be for newcomers, I used the singles/edited versions where available. They take away some of the amazing spacy/noise sections but make them a lot more immediate and accessible.

I made a You Tube video playlist: https://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=8AFB81CB9D2B5E93

  1. "The Empty Page" | Murray Street
  2. "Teen Age Riot" | Daydream Nation
  3. "Sunday" | A Thousand Leaves
  4. "Death Valley '69" | Bad Moon Rising
  5. "Candle" | Daydream Nation
  6. "Kool Thing" | Goo
  7. "Bull in the Heather" | Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star
  8. "(I Got A) Catholic Block" | Sister
  9. "Hey Joni" | Daydream Nation
  10. "Expressway to Yr Skull" | EVOL

They're off the streets now, and back on the road on the riot trail. http://www.last.fm/user/sca_punk

So, I've made another one, this time for The Mountain Goats. This was actually impossibly difficult. I've had to leave out a load of brilliant songs, but I think this was the best playlist I could come up with that was balanced, and served as a good introduction. All tracks linked to a youtube video because Grooveshark failed me on the first track.

The Mountain Goats

  1. 'The Best Ever Death Metal Band In Denton' | All Hail West Texas
  2. 'Palmcorder Yajna' | We Shall All Be Healed
  3. 'This Year' | The Sunset Tree
  4. 'Woke Up New' | Get Lonely
  5. 'No Children' | Tallahassee
  6. 'Matthew 25:21' | The Life Of The World To Come
  7. 'Cotton' | We Shall All Be Healed
  8. 'Hast Thou Considered The Tetrapod' | The Sunset Tree
  9. 'Going To Georgia' | Zopilote Machine
  10. 'Ezekiel 7 And The Permanent Efficacy Of Grace' | The Life Of The World To Come
