Make an "Introduction to..." CD of your favourite band:
Resident Hipster
Exactly What It Says on the Tin. If a friend was interested in listening to your favourite band/artist, which tracks would you stick on a CD to get them started?
The CD must be no more than 10 tracks long. You can either include your 10 personal favourites or the 10 tracks that you think would get someone into this band/artist who had no prior knowledge of them.
Bonus points awarded if you can make a playlist and provide a link to it.
I'll take some time to think about mine before posting it and see if this takes off in the meantime .
GO!

Close second after "Sextape".

Not-Not-Not Your Academy
Sonic Youth
Since this is supposed to be for newcomers, I used the singles/edited versions where available. They take away some of the amazing spacy/noise sections but make them a lot more immediate and accessible.
I made a YouTube video playlist: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=8AFB81CB9D2B5E93
- "The Empty Page" | Murray Street
- "Teen Age Riot" | Daydream Nation
- "Sunday" | A Thousand Leaves

That's the only song of her's that I like....
But anyways: You should all listen to Laibach because they're such big IRL trolls that their encyclopedia Dramatica article has a reverent tone.

So I heard. Any band that literally runs its own country is win, no matter what the music sounds like, so I'll just imagine they're ball-shatteringly awesome and move on... just kidding, I'll check them out.

So, I've made another one, this time for The Mountain Goats. This was actually impossibly difficult. I've had to leave out a load of brilliant songs, but I think this was the best playlist I could come up with that was balanced, and served as a good introduction. All tracks linked to a youtube video because Grooveshark failed me on the first track.
The Mountain Goats
- 'The Best Ever Death Metal Band In Denton'
| All Hail West Texas
- 'Palmcorder Yajna'
| We Shall All Be Healed
