My wackiest idea yet: A retelling of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey with the That70s Show characters in an AU. Only problem is, who would be Gandalf, Saruman, Galadriel, and Elrond? I've seen quite a few fanfics that basically take a classic story and retell it with the characters of another one.
Eric=Bilbo
Jackie =Thorin Oakenshield (She definitely has the Impoverished Patrician vibe, and pride/stubborness.) Remember when her father went to prison for bribery and how she didn't want to feel like she was poor?
Kelso= Kili
Fez=Fili
Donna=Balin
Hyde= Dwalin
?= Oin
?= Gloin
?= Bifur
?= Bofur
?=Bombur
Leo=Radagast
Red=Gandalf
?=Saruman
?=Galadriel
Bob=Elrond

The road goes ever on. -TolkienSuddenly Gandalf going "Dumbass!" is a fucking hilarious image.
THE DARK FLAME WILL NOT PROTECT YOU, DUMBASS!
Oh no, I have terrible arc words.
Every time I end up explaining how things were terrible but not quite as bad a few weeks ago to a couple years ago in the story it's always "once upon a time." Which is awful.
Depending upon the sentiment, that could actually work.
I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception.What do you mean?
Once upon a time is not an inherently bad phrase. It can do wonders for setting the scene.
Read my stories!Do you just feel like it is bad because it is overused? That doesn't make something bad. Hell my story feels a real lot like a damn shounen story and anything in YA literature.
http://ralanr.deviantart.com/ My Deviant art profile, A plea for attention, cause I am boredYes, it is very overused.
Also paragraphs of yellow text is an abomination.
If you're using it as a phrase for when someone refers to a previous time, there are others you can use. When I was in college, the expression we used was "Back in Old Army..."
Nobody could explain just what the heck that was supposed to mean. Some random thing inherited from the Corps of Cadets there.
I've also heard "Back in the day/Back in the old days" and "Way back when" and variations on that.
Actually those phrases don't really make much sense in the context "once upon a time" was used. Not all of them.
Is the yellow text a reference to something cause all I got was Dead Pool.
Anyway I guess it may also depend on the genre the story is. I'd imagine that "Once upon a time" really only fits well with fantasy stories.
http://ralanr.deviantart.com/ My Deviant art profile, A plea for attention, cause I am boredI mean I decided to color code all of the text to make it easier to read and it was fine at first because the guy with yellow text didn't have much to say or do but now it's just paragraph after paragraph of yellow and it's truly horrible.
Also, this isn't a fantasy story.
Pretty sure you should never use light colors with a white background to separate things. Interesting idea though.

I'm thinking I might just write it out as a serial novel, just because I want it out of me in a way that won't take five years of constant drawing.

Project progress: The Adroan (102k words), The Pigeon Witch, (40k). Done but in need of reworking: Yume Hime, (50k)Toying with the idea of setting up a Wiki as an organizational tool for my writing. Or even setting up a wiki as the writing itself, now that I think about it.
I think the Penny Arcade guys did that with a Wiki for a show-within-a-show in their comic. They set up enough in the comic to basically give a feel for the setting, and let the fans come up with whatever on the Wiki.
I was under the impression that there was no story and they just did it as a joke per strip
http://ralanr.deviantart.com/ My Deviant art profile, A plea for attention, cause I am boredYeah, there at vague allusions to the story, and in-universe two seperate characters claim to have been ripped off by the Franzibald guy who wrote (I think) a separate in-unverse work.
Is one of those characters the Mac guy? What about the living game station that seems to be left behind all the time
http://ralanr.deviantart.com/ My Deviant art profile, A plea for attention, cause I am boredThat's not a game station, that's a Div X player. You'd be forgiven if you're not familliar with those, I'm pretty sure they had been cast aside in favor of DVD by the time Penny Arcade created the character to make fun of them.
Instead of waking up with a huge hangover wondering what I did last night while drunk, I wake up and wonder what the hell I wrote last night while trying to fall asleep.
The only thing worse than yellow and green text together is yellow and orange text together.
Don't sell yourself short! Coming up with good ideas and realizing how gracefully they need to be executed is far more than half the battle. The rest is just technical skill, and that's just a matter of practice.
