I have this brilliant idea for a fanfic crossover between Thursday Next and the Haruhi Suzumiya light novels.

In the beginning of the fic, it's explained that characters from works of English literature tend to have two different personalities: the one they are written to have, and the one they develop outside the story they are in. While following the story they are written into, they use their written personality, but outside the story they use the one that they have developed on their own. Since minor characters don't have much of a written personality, they aren't able to form their own independent personalities very easily and usually stick to their written persona.

Then it is explained that in works of Japanese literature, most characters use the personality they were written with even outside of their own story, mainly due to the pressures of Japanese culture.

This, as you can imagine, can lead to some problems when one such character is written as a very energetic Reality Warper with extreme boredom of her own setting...

So, naturally, Haruhi escapes from her light novel series, and causes loads of problems in other bookworlds due to her nature and abilities.

Naturally, Jurisfiction is is forced to intervene. I also have an idea where Thursday and Kyon alternate narrating...

...Within the same chapter, while fighting over who gets to narrate.

That sounds like a great idea, but are you still working on "The Exchange of Haruhi Suzumiya"?

I found a major plot hole in the main story that pretty much makes it unwritable, so no.

What was it?

I hadn't seen Thursday Next, but I bet the feuding narrators would make the narration very entertaining.

Will any other works be appearing?

It's Thursday Next, and is apparently set in the Bookworld. At the very least there should be copious references to other works of literature. If it's like the books, other fictional characters will be major characters in the plot.

There will be, if I ever get around to implementing these ideas. Most of the referenced works are action, thriller, fantasy and sci-fi works, since Haruhi has little interest in realistic fiction.

There's also an idea I have where Haruhi eventually makes it to Terry Pratchett's Discworld. In the bookworld, Thursday finds it impossible to use her footnoterphone due to the heavy usage of footnotes within the series. As you can imagine from a crossover between Thursday Next and the Discworld, the sheer amount of meta-humor present threatens to cause the bookworld to collapse upon itself.

Does the UU Library connect to the English Great Library?
