I've heard that people are describing this show as, Utawarerumono meets Zero No Tsukaima meets Final Fantasy meets Ninja Warrior meets Takeshis Castle.
Which is kinda accurate if you ask me.
Yeah, it really is. Also seems relatively tame for having all the tropes of an ecchi anime.
Fzzr Miller because underscores are brokenThis show is okay so far. It would get interesting if they pointed out that our human Hero may not turn into a ball of dog if he gets stabbed...
...
It's.
So.

Don't mind me. I'm just a creepy little lurker.First thought after watching: Only in Japan.
I expect that to occur at some point. I also hope that there will be a better description of the penalties for losing a battle/war-probably having to do with losing territory/resources.
Accurate, but it is taking about one aspect of each and adds other stuff to it, so that description is misleading.
- Utawarerumono: anthropomorphic cast
- Zero no Tsukaima: the summoning and noblewoman (but not a violent one and I think MAR is a better example in this case)
- Final Fantasy: weird wildlife/mounts
- Ninja Warrior: goal of main character
- Takeshi's Castle; war is sport (no one gets killed).
That does not cover the landscape, transformation, or versions of magic we have seen (the last reminds me of the Tales series)
Watch out! It might Taste Like Diabetes latter on.

Yu hav nat sein bod speeling unntil know. (cacke four undersandig tis)the cake is a lie!
So I'm not the only one who got a "Tales" (no pun intended!) vibe from the setting.
Of course, the fact that Millhiore looks a lot like Estelle had a lot to do with it too.
I tried to watch this show, and I'm hoping that there's a darker twist in the second episode, like maybe the high school kid's presence causes some of the animal-people he fights to actually die in "Oh shit!" moments, because otherwise I can't see myself bothering to care.
Fuck darkness.
Thinking of watching this, sounds adorable. :3
Exactly.
Everything does not have to be GRIMDARK
Here is a blanket. Feel free to throw it next time you make such generalizations. Or do you really not see the difference between dark humor and just dark?

Uhh, you are the one whining about it not being dark.
He is saying that it should have "darker" events (with the characters actualy being hurt), not that the entire show will become "dark." He just wants something to add a more serious tone and tention to the show.
I would not be adverse to something like that, though I expect the twist will be that the main character (by being human and not from their world) can be hurt/bleed, not that he hurts the other characters. After all, the equipment he is hurting them with is from that world.
Yu hav nat sein bod speeling unntil know. (cacke four undersandig tis)the cake is a lie!Seriously, Madoka is enough darkness for me, at least for now. There is nothing wrong with a light hearted series, that's simply fun.
And it takes something boring like war and turns it into something fuuunn!
War Is Hell is overused and boring. Try "War Is Nyaa~ bonus points!"

"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."exactly why I am enjoying Cardfight Vanguard.
Just to be clear, I have no problem with things continuing the way they have been. I was just trying to elaborate on why a "darker turn of events" might be desireable to someone and not nessicarealy a bad thing. People did jump on that phrase harder than it deserved.
Yu hav nat sein bod speeling unntil know. (cacke four undersandig tis)the cake is a lie! There's a difference between Grimdark and merely having some sense of danger or tension.
No, not really, grimdak is just the more dismissive term for it, but neither of them are necessary for a good story.
I just jumped at the phrase because the whole thread sounded like it tried to treat darkness/ "sense of danger" as an inherent value of a work, like characterization, or visuals. As in "This show lacks in darkness", instead of "I would rather watch something dark, right now"
Watched the first episode and the Cuteness Meter is nearly off the charts. Can't stop squeeing over the Nyamo copies...and Shinku making a Puppy-Dog Eyes look nearly identical to Tamaki Suoh's.
Well I wonder if they are going to try and deconstruct Summon Everyman Hero. Although he seems pretty unusual already.
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Episode 2 is an improvement.
Leonmitchelli is awesome, and Eclair is pretty awesome too.
link please?
Thanks dude!
So, this episode points out that the people aren't killed, they just turn into furballs once they are KO'ed.
The war is essentially a game, or a sport even.
I've pointed out in MAL already that it is somewhat similar to Tiger and Bunny, although there is real danger but the heroes are still "playing a game."

I'm reading this because it's interesting. I think. Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over.
