[up][up][up] I think the big twist of having Plagueis die during TPM is to just rub in in Plagueis' doom because apparently, the Sith Lord became convinced the Force had created Anakin to destroy him and Palpatine. Which is quite appropriate for a Muun who tried to create the ultimate weapon through the Force.

But otherwise, Plagueis is just one of those stories best left a mystery to highlight Sidious' past being hidden from records.

After being told The Prince and the Pirate was pretty fun, I decided to check out the Young Jedi Adventures - keeping in mind of course that I'm well outside the intended viewing range. It's not the first preschool show I've ever binged, so I know the deal.

Indeed, the show is very fun. And yep, as advised, I quite like Cyrus. Fun character.

I wouldn't mind parts of Pelagius being adapted into Tales of the Jedi shorts. Uhh, not that him or Sideous are jedi. It does seem like an interesting bit of lore.

Is anyone else kinda starting to get an "Everybody Dies" Ending vibe?

Like. Tech's death actually being real and sticking felt weird in the moment. Like, it felt almost random and meaningless the way he died. He got a bit moment of characterization, choosing death to save the rest of the group from the consequences of trying to save him. But it just. That he was suddenly put in such a perilous situation and for once couldn't be saved felt, in contrast to all the perilous situations where the characters pulled off the impossible for each other... it just felt so... random.

Random, meaningless death on a battlefield is totally normal for war. He's a merc. Mercs die. But for a major character of a story, it felt weird. Like if Han Solo were suddenly struck in the chest and killed by a Stormtrooper's blaster bolt moments after arriving on Endor. Important characters don't just drop dead like that. Character death is usually a much bigger deal.

Tech's death felt a lot more "Whoops, grenade chucked in the ship with you, buh-bye" Rogue One than "If you strike me down I shall become more powerful than you can imagine" A New Hope, is what I'm getting at.

And now with Hunter and Wrecker tearing themselves in half to find Omega, and Crosshair finding motivation to give a shit about anything again through Omega... It's just.

I'm genuinely starting to wonder if the entire Clone Force 99 is going to end up giving their lives for Omega.

I could buy it.

We don't see them by the time of Rebels. Something happens to them.

Now, dying in battle isn't necessarily it. We know Clones age must faster than normal humans because they themselves were aged up quickly. And the Bad Batch were already irregular beyond that. For all we know, they could be distinctly unstable in a way that hasn't been noticed yet.

Or maybe Palpatine just gives them a NWO style beating all on his own. Anything is possible.

Except the Bad Batch living. I have doubts about that.

That being said, we all spent years wondering when Asohka would die, since she was nowhere to be seen in Episode III and never played any sort of role in the OG trilogy. And we've seen where that went.

I'd expect one of them, probably Hunter, escape death on the battlefield to take care of Omega until she becomes an adult and then passing peacefully from the accelerated aging.

Ahsoka has proved that it's a big galaxy, and someone's absence isn't inexplicable.

Though this does seem to be a story of how the clones loose.

Sith are always training secret apprentices to overthrow their master with. It's like their whole thing.

Episode: I agree that the villain of the week is so fun that it feels like a huge shame for him to have gotten that Sudden Karma Death.

Another thing I loved about the last two episodes is that despite never having worked with each other before, Omega and Crosshair actually worked incredibly well together - I guess that's the advantage of having a whole list of tactics memorised.

One random thing I love about the Star Wars Universe is that there's random kaiju species, like, everywhere. Even Wrecker lampshades it this episode.

This episode releasing the same week as Dune is absolutely perfect.

Shaice Hulud. The ice must, err, freeze?

Does Crosshair shooting the ice and Wrecker digging through snow count as poor water discipline?

Also, I have been waiting since the end of season 1 for Omega to call out that she’s big sister

I just love the visual pun of an ice wyrm acting like a sand worm.

Looking back at Young Jedi Adventures, I just realized that the Season 1 finale ends with the Starlight Beacon dedication ceremony, which capped off the first wave of Phase I High Republic books (and the main comic started with it).

Given what I know happens in the books (and that Loden Greatstorm is visibly absent in the Season Finale without any mention of his fate, even though every other Jedi in the show is present), I get the feeling a Season 2 of that show is either going to be dealing with an awkward elephant in the room lore wise, go through Cerebus Syndrome and bump up to a Y7 rating at minimum, or be a one season show with a sequel series that is notably less preschool friendly. Although, I might be surprised considering one episode included some Nihil when they were acting low-profile, and they were one of the more serious villains in the show.

If Tenoo is one of the worlds that got netted into the Occlusion Zone (bear in mind, Tenoo is in the Outer Rim), I can't see the show staying preschool friendly.

Relating to this, I once joked in response to the tasteless and inaccurate Order 66 memes that it's probably a good thing a lot of them don't know about the Nameless.

They still have a year before Occlusion Zone and situation gets really bad and Tenoo does seem remote enough for show’s central status quo to not be affected to much before that, but it will be interesting to see how season 2 handles things happening in the galaxy. I could see two Nihil who already made apperance returning as reccuring baddies if anything.

It woudn’t be first time Disney Junior show went harder than you would expect though, Lion Guard being a good example. Drengir would make cool villains for Hallowen speacial at least, though they would probably be like ones in Life Day special rather than main High Republic comic.

I imagine YJA is going to go through a similar path as the Lion Guard where later on the plots got a bit more weighty and consequential without losing the younger focus. Aging up with its audience from a preschool series to a 5-8 year old series, basically.

Like, Lion Guard never stopped being a kids show, but it did go from stuff like "the hippos and the zebras are having an argument! How can Kion and the Guard get them to be friends?" to a full-season arc of "evil cultists used a dark ritual to resurrect Scar's evil spirit, who now plans to burn down the pride lands!"

So, yeah. Something like that, given where the story is in the timeline. Things suddenly starting to get a little less sheltered for the kids makes sense, given what's about to happen.

I could see the Nihil being good for that, too. Y'know, villains who don't have softer sides or a predilection for change, vs the villains they've had so far. Especially given that Taborr is obviously going go from bad guy pirate to good guy pirate in the future.

Escape from Valo does show an anti-Nihil pirate alliance forming in the Occlusion Zone, and given that the pirates we saw in the show were already disgusted by Taborr trying to steal fruit from an old woman, I can't see them standing for what the Nihil do.

Getting into more potential horror, how would a weightier later season handle something like the Nameless, if at all? I don't know if we'd see one calcify a Jedi to death on screen (although Escape From Valo showed some deaths through flashback and The Nameless Terror had one character live but lose an arm through calcification, and both of those stories were middle-grade), but we might see one of the results. If not, we could just see a character just experience the psychological horror of merely being in the vicinity of one to highlight how dangerous they are.

Granted, I still think it would be hilarious to see Nameless in a cuter artstyle (provided Non-Standard Character Design isn't in play). Especially after seeing baby Nameless in The High Republic Adventures.

[up] Why not just use the Nihil, instead of a not-Nihil faction?

Getting into more potential horror, how would a weightier later season handle something like the Nameless, if at all?

... maybe?

So, obviously, nobody can die from them. If the show does transition in the same way Lion Guard does, then maybe? But probably only a bad guy, and only offscreen. If that.

But in general, formless monsters that make people afraid are kind of a staple of younger kids series. Leads to lessons about it being okay to be afraid, but how to handle it. Granted, on the other hand, the Nameless are a fair bit more than that.

Still, like, the first thing when I think of when I imagine the Nihil getting serious use in this show is season/series finale where Taborr tries to join the Nihil, only to realize they're actually straight up evil and switch sides. And I could see something like "the Nihil set the Nameless on the Younglings, and Taborr and Nash are only ones who can save them" as a pretty good "switch sides" moment.

Heads up, two episodes dropped today, so don't just click on the most newest one and skip over the first new episode.

Also, I know it's been said before, but it bears repeating, Dee Bradley Baker deserve massive props for voicing 90% of the characters in this show, especially in scenes where he's Acting for Two, or more accurately, four or five characters at the same time.
