Hi,

I recently happened upon a few youtube videos that were Hollywood films with extremely crappy polish dubbing. Crappy as in: spoken over the original, by only one actor.

Here's an example:

What's the deal with that? Is that how they actually do it over in Poland? Because if so, the moviegoers do deserve our pity.

Yes, and it's terrible.

It's not really dubbing but a translation pasted right on top of the original audio. I guess it's supposed to be like having an intepreter translating the movie for you, but it's highly distracting and I hate it with a flaming passion.

Subtitles, damn it, SUBTITLES.

Banned entirely for telling FE that he was being rude and not contributing to the discussion. I shall watch down from the goon heavens.

Indeed, subtitles, indeed.

I always thought that only us german-speaking jerks dub everything. Well, duh, at least we do it with some decency most of the time.

I'd still prefer subtitles a lot, because our younglings really need to learn their english, and because originals are way more fun.

Nothing new. This is how most of out films get translated, an Eastern European tradition. It's sort of a Grandfather Clause nowadays, thank goodness films in cinemas are subtitled (only childrens' stuff gets dubbed).

So THIS is what all the Polish people I know on the Internet keep complaining about!

Well, can't say I blame 'em.

It's been blocked in the US. Can someone provide a new link, or fuck, even an .mp4 of a short clip?

The things that come up as related videos also turn out to be good examples, and are not blocked. This for instance:

They seem baffled at dubbing Matthew Mc Conaughey.

This is not a official translation. It's a homemade thing doing by guy who put lines into readin program.

Actually, it's not as bad as it may seem. It's a good alternative for people that are too lazy to read subs yet still want to hear the original voice actors. It's quite a nice compromise, considering dubbing in Poland is terrible (it's been getting better lately, but it still kinda sucks).

Luckily, they do it only on TV.
