She hasn't done the A typical Evil succubi thing but she's gotten close.

Morrigan being a villain has basically become a Beam Me Up, Scotty! thing where a bunch people assume she's evil without knowing much about her. I remember the Super Best Friends playing Marvel Infinite and asking out loud several times why Morrigan would give a fuck about stopping Jedah or avenging innocent victims.

Its cause she's a Succubus isn't it!

In the games, she's more Chaotic Neutral. I kind of see her like Eclipsa in a way in that she's selfish, but at the same time there is a great heart and when push comes to shove she will take up her duties.

I wouldn't really say it's out of character for Morrigan to actually act like a succubus but she never really act all that villainous. At worst she's just selfish.

You know, I was kinda surprised this topic wasn't revived when the Capcom Fighting Collection was announced, but then I saw it's 12 pages back and the forum search functionality is still broken so uh, lol.

Anyway, in case people haven't kept up with the news and are confused why I'm bumping this topic, Capcom recently announced a new classic fighting game collection coming this June which brings Darkstalkers games to modern consoles. Yeah yeah, I know, we've been down this road before with Darkstalkers Resurrection, but this particular collection is different—apart from having actual other lesser known Capcom fighting games like Cyberbots, Red Earth, and Pocket Fighter, it's also the first time we have every single Darkstalkers game in the west, including the previously unreleased Vampire Hunter 2 and Vampire Savior 2.

I'm sure part of this is a way for Capcom to test the waters regarding if there's enough interest to justify making a new Darkstalkers game, again, and I've seen a lot of fans across twitter and the FGC making a big push to support the series. Here's hoping I guess?

I'm definitely getting it. Its just a solid collection overall. It'd be nice if it got enough support to bring interest back to Darkstalkers. That feels unlikely, but it sure would be nice.

I've never gotten to play all 5 Darkstalkers games so I'm already buying this game on day 1. I seriously doubt this will renew interest in either Darkstalkers, Red Earth, or Cyberbots but at least this time I can say I tried.

Side note; Hsien-Ko's transition to MVC 3 is the worst implementation I've ever seen. She shouldn't be anywhere that bad from the series that was inspired by Darkstalkers to begin with.

I'm grabbing it for both Pocket Fighter and the Darkstalkers games.

I wonder why Pocket Fighter wasn't included in the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary collection yet was included in here.

Help me. I can't get it out of my head.

What I'm about to suggest is pretty gimmicky, but at the end of the day, I don't actually see the harm in it.

What if Darkstalkers was merged with DMC? I think Darkstalker can legitimately do fine on its own, but I don't think it would be too bad to have a safety. Street Fighter has been Canon Welding their other series for the longest time, but it wasn't until Strider that I realized this was a good idea. This can help older Capcom titles stay somewhat relevant for the modern time. Not to mention DMC has already interacted with Darkstalkers plenty of times before, particularly Jedah & Dante. To CFE Jedah's ending, their interaction in MVC I, & even in Project X Zone. On top of that Dante's partner in PXZ 1 is Demitri Maximoff & in Teppen Dante has cards like these.

Recently DMC 5 sold over 5 million units & I figure that maybe Darkstalkers can piggyback off that success. I understand there'll be fans who think DMC/Dante will overtake the Darkstalker cast in their own series as Thorgi Arcade brought in his own video, but I think Capcom can restrain themselves & just advertise that Dante is a Guest Fighter with his own story/arcade mode. I'll admit part of this is because I want to have another fighting game that has Dante & Darkstalker is probably the closest fighting game that can make this possible. I also would love to see what kind of moveset Dante could have in a game that has EX special & 6-button fighting game.

That being said, if this somehow becomes true then Dante should be the only guest character from DMC. It shouldn't be too hard to bring back all the entire Darkstalkers cast, but they should be the top priority at the end of the day & whatever new characters they can come up with. Another thing I also want to bring up is that they could also do the same thing that The King of Fighters did. That is to have separate timelines/universes like how Fatal Fury has its canon compared to the one in KOF. And technically, Capcom already has done that with Teppen, VS series, & PXZ.

Anyway, that's my take on this. For the record, I'm also ok with Red Earth being part of the Darkstalker & DMC universe as well.

A more optimistic take on recent news regarding Darkstalkers' status.

I don't necessarily agree with Max but this shouldn't discourage anyone from buying the Fighting Game Collection. I never really thought it would revive Darkstalker & the fighting game IPs but I still think it'll help them if it does has good sales numbers. It's really better than doing nothing at all & I do agree with Max that at least someone at Capcom wants to tamper with expectation rather than saying it's a guarantee.

I'm more inclined to see that comment as an ass-covering move because Capcom has been pretty heavily marketing the Darkstalkers side of the CFC, particularly when they announced yesterday that they're holding an official Vampire Savior tournament during East Coast Throwdown and putting in a $7000 pot bonus. Chump change in comparison to Street Fighter obviously, but for a 25 year old game that's mostly being held up by a small, dedicated community that's pretty significant. I like to think they're looking for a reason to show the executives that people would like a new game but don't want to commit to promises in case another DSR situation happens.

Another day, another crumb of hope for Darkstalkers fans. Capcom has recently started a special survey that they're calling the Capcom Super Elections. And it's worth bringing up here because there are several questions in this survey regarding revivals of old I Ps, with Darkstalkers being the foremost franchise of the "What series would you want a new entry in?" question.

I'm pretty sure that entire question is basically asking Capcom fans to put their money where their mouth is regarding franchises that haven't had a new game in a while to convince the execs what their fans want so, uh. If you haven't filled out that survey go fill it out now.
