Free Republic Comments about the "Homosexual Agenda"

Someone linked to this US super right wing blog a while ago, and it was mentioned about the rabidity/idiocy of the comments.

I find the arguments used hilarious, they are scaremongering, overly doomed about every civil liberty gained being a nail in the US' coffin and the 'evidence' they use is anecdotes if anything other than their opinion/christian belief. It is like horrific strawman homophobic steretypes come to life, but in an impotently funny way.

But I was laughing too hard from this comment.

Whilst personally I feel their views are 'wrong', everyone has their own opinion but if it seems as crazy as the ones on there I'm going to take the piss.

This seems like sort of a stealth Just Bugs Me thread, although I agree that you don't find a lot of reasoned discourse on the Free Republic comments to say the least.

"Speculating about mental illnesses is more fun than speculating about sexuality." Having read our Ambiguously Gay page as well as as our Ambiguously Autistic one, I think I prefer speculations about sexuality.

It isn't a stealth IJBM at all, I am actually awed by their site in a good way, it is a gold mine of hilarious idiocy. I don't wish it shut down and I believe they should be allowed to voice their views, no matter how 'wrong' I perceive them.

There is also talk on Freeperville about how the Right to Protect doctrine is, well, I don't exactly know what their point is. That it is somehow "tainted" by association with a Holocaust denier in the ranks of the PLO? And George Soros. And Samantha Power. And probably the Illuminati (it is a World Net Daily article they are quoting).

Of course, that the UNSC of 2006 and Ban Ki-moon also support R 2 P must mean that all of the aforementioned are anti-Semitic. And the Libyan rebels, too. And Newt Gingrinch. And the Israeli government. And your mom.

The amount of distortions of reality you have to accept to come to the kind of conclusions they are in the thread is truly amazing. It's like a goldmine of confirmation bias.

^^ Promotion of tolerance. That in and of itself is horrifying to a certain mindset. (We'll ignore the people who think gays want everyone to be gay—they may make for good soundbites, but I'm not sure they actually have as much influence in the Republican party as we sometimes think.)
