Ya can just jump right in, I did that too...(technically I played Fallout 3 too but since I just barely got out of Vault 101, it doesn't really count...)
Plus, you can't import character anyway...it's totally new game...

Give me cute or give me...something?Cool, thanks, that's exactly what I needed to know. +100 cookies to you!
BioWare spoiled you, eh?
Since we're not talking plot here - vastly improved plot - I think that New Vegas is more interesting gameplay-wise than 3 as well, yeah. And I don't know how hard it is to play on consoles... but New Vegas has a rather structured tutorial, even though you start out in the open rather than in a Vault like in 3.
I hear that the PS3 versions of both games are buggier than the other, but I'm not sure because I own not a single console.

I've never played anything Bioware. Bioware games are terrible and boring and I fall asleep just listening to my friends describe them. I just heard someone saying you had to import characters from FO 3, and I guess they were full of shit.
Wondering why you would want to do that, anyway.
Happiness is zero-gee with a sinus cold.^^Any particular reason you hate bioware? Is it a tendency for their plots to all follow a similar story or is it something else? Just asking because what you hate about bioware games might be a reason you'd dislike New Vegas (also a heavily story driven rpg)
Err, that person just said (s)he never played a Bio Ware game. Her opinion is thus entirely invalid.

I don't have too much to say.Hell, at least I rent the Bio Ware games before I trol-, er, discuss the games' poor qualities with their fanbase.
EIGHT GLORIOUS SIDESMust be a troll attempt. Most people have the common decency to play a game or watch a movie before they declare their opinions on it.
Against all tyrants. No guys, it's okay, he's heard his friends describe them. That makes his opinion just as valid as anyone else's.
Underneath the bridge The tarp has sprung a leak And the animals I've trapped have all become my petsYou know, I probably will never play a Bio Ware game in my life (I don't know why), so I tune out any discussion of their games and fast-forward through threads, but I respect their discussion and I won't make broad comments about games I'll probably never play.
Oh, and you would be much better off with the PC version, because you can get mods for it (potentially mods that fix the game's bugs). Oh, and the character importing thing: They might be talking about the DLC for Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

OK this might seem like a really stupid question but I've never played FO 3 or NV before and NV looks INFINITELY more interesting than plain old FO 3. Disregarding story and focusing purely on the gameplay aspect, do I have to have played through FO 3 and import a leveled up character from that game to get the most out of NV, or can I just jump into NV as if it was the first game in the series?
tl;dr: Is New Vegas n00b-friendly gameplay wise, or do I need to have beaten Fallout 3 first?
If it matters, I'm looking to buy the PS 3 version.
