Those three are my favorite tropes, and I'd like to write an exciting action/fantasy series that also features a lot of Slice of Life and Villains Out Shopping (Go-Karting with Bowser) moments. I'm mostly planning to base the setting in Academy of Adventure, with most of the protagonists and antagonists as students.

Any idea?

[up] Ah, so you are a fan of, or at least aware of, that series too, huh? I like the series, but not what I'm aiming for. If anything, something more like anything from Jun Maeda, especially CLANNAD (ok, not so much in action but plenty in fantasy) and especially Angel Beats.

What I mean is that you should rotate genres every story, while having a Myth Arc of sorts.

Ah, I see. Oh, and would there be any reason for a group of Ordinary High School Students for carrying firearms and whatnots? Also, would it plausible for a {at least legally,) non supernatural high school to have something inside it that would draw monsters?

[up]Depends on the monsters. If they enjoy feasting on the souls of teenagers then a High School will be a buffet to them.

Well, it sounds like this may not fit into your ideas, but one concept I've always held dear was the idea of the "Modern Fantasy World" - basically, take 1 Standard Fantasy Setting, throw Medieval Stasis out the window, and advance by 1000 years or so until you get something like the modern era in a fantasy world.

It would be difficult to pull off without becoming at least somewhat parodic, which is why I've never done it, but it would make a good, and unique, way to combine a modern-day Slice of Life story and traditional fantasy tropes. Action-adventure should follow naturally. Perhaps it could be set in a fantasy Earth or close parallel to save on world-building...?

Just throwing out ideas here.

[up] That's exactly what I thought!

I actually thought that such combination was utterly impossible to pull off, until I watched the anime Angel Beats, which is bascially a slice of Purgatory life, where main characters are delliquents who fights against (who they think are} agent of the God from erasing them from existence. Better Than It Sounds.

Oh, and the problem with my setting would be the police; I'm trying to avert Adults Are Useless but if I do, then I better come up with some justification for police not getting involved when students and other citizens get attacked.

Any idea?

[up] This is a little off-topic, but how are your other ideas going?

[up] Like I said before, pretty much all ideas I post here is related to a single project. Currently, though, what with this being my last here, I can't do much except posting occasionally. Sucks. Thanks for your consideration :D If you are interested, you might want to check out dRoy's original fic - Prototype. It's a very, VERY rough version, with pretty much no conscious effort, and as a result, it's bad, VERY bad.

I've been writing the same story for ten years with this idea in mind, so with that in mind, I planned it all out by asking what is the character's slice of life like? Do they go to a school to learn about the history of Magic? What are the rules to the magic in this setting? What kind of world is this in and what adventures can be told in it?

Those are the questions and I just write them down. I've been working with a cast of about 10 main characters for my slice of life, fantasy, and action-adventure story. I don't know much I just know the questions you'll need to ask yourself.
