So slow today we barely needed one driver. Had two. The third time somebody told me "you can go home if you want", I decided the "if you want" part was just a strange way to pronounce "so do so".

I want to continue reading my novel waiting for orders to come in, rather than go home over two hours early and do that but without getting paid $25 less than projected.

Despite my request to be scheduled three or four days a week when school is in session I was scheduled to work 5 days this week. Plus that one day that I teach. So I worked a jillion hours.

During that jillion hours, co-worker A had a full bore no holds barred blow out with co-worker B. Co-worker A was completely out of line. Co-worker B blew it by responding in kind. Because this is the second incident in less than a year both were written up. Co-worker A who was completely out of line and is someone I'm not really crazy about is acting like a grown up. Co-worker B who I think had a valid reason to file a formal complaint and was someone that I kind of used to like is acting like a complete jerk. I hoping my boss transfers one of them to the other store. I have had to work with both of them every single day since the incident and subsequent fall out. No tension there. Nope, not at all.

I have been called up for jury duty. The preliminary jury selection event is Tuesday. The day I teach. I've had to find a sub and put together a lesson plan for him in the event that I actually have to appear. I won't know until after 5 pm on Monday. Not one bit of stress attached to any of that. Not one little dot.

I did get a raise at the teaching gig.

Heh, I remember that. Big rush in the morning building up to about half an hour before the kickoff, then dead for two hours, then a mini-rush at halftime, and then dead.

This will be a hectic week at work. The Pope is going to be in town this weekend, which will make getting around the city in the days leading up to his visit rather difficult with increased traffic and some streets blocked off for the events surrounding his visit. I happen to work across the street from Philadelphia's main train station. The higher ups are basically treating the event (especially the Friday before and the Monday after) like a mid-level snowstorm: i.e. "We'll be open, but we'll understand if you can't make it." Yes, Pope Francis is a force of nature. An Act of God tongue.

I've already told my manager I don't plan to be in those days. I do have plans for that Saturday, but they have nothing to do with the Pope. I'm going to be at a Magic: The Gathering prerelease tournament. Thankfully, that's nowhere near downtown, but I still might try to leave for it a little earlier than I usually do.

Both of my jobs suck right now.

Retail job, the blow out I mentioned previously involved people of different races. And the only people the boss is listening to is the white people. The white overtly racist people. The African Americans, the Latinos, the Asians, the Bleeding Heart Liberal (that would be me) are non-contenders in the "people the boss listens to" competition. I'm not perfect when it comes to understanding the incredibly difficult dynamic between white people and every one else, not even close, I can only say that I am listening differently these days because of some hard lessons. I really wish I could quit this job right now.

Teaching job. I don't think there are enough expletives in the world to cover this one. I know that everyone here is an expert on how evil and mean and terrible teachers are. But there are two sides to every coin and expletive expletive expletive education does not happen by osmosis. Education happens because students try, and study and do shit. It's not like sitting in some goddamned toaster getting lightly browned. GHOERDSRU)@#*$#HGN$)(()#$@)_(T_GJWP)$_@%(J tl;dr Humans suck, and what I really need right now is a good long face to face conversation with someone who isn't going to tell me to try harder. Grump grump grump

Mid way through week two of being the sole vet, and about four weeks into 'All Sole Charge All The Time' time. No sign of when, if ever, another vet will materialise.

Call today was 6:30 AM. Really weird to be done with all of the official business I knew I needed to do today before 8. If given the option, I won't be awake at 8.

ICD 10 starts for healthcare next week. If something's not coded correctly, it doesn't get paid for by insurance and Medicare. It's also ridiculously specific so a lot of indications and diagnoses we've been using are no longer valid. But we really won't know what's valid and what's not until it gets denied.

Send chocolate. Lots of it.

So not looking forward to that. And of course all the phone lines for the various insurance companies are going to be blowing up, so hold times will be through the roof. There are certain insurances I'm really hoping we don't see anyone from anytime soon, because their normal hold times are in the 30-45 minute range.

I'm getting the double whammy of ICD 10 and working in a field no one understands unless you actually work in the field. There are so many tests we do on patients that are not appropriate for the symptoms (bone scan for a pinched nerve? Really?!), but the doctors really hate it when a lowly tech questions their Godhood. It's not like I do this everyday and might actually know what I'm talking about. Clearly they know my field better than I do. sad

Given the nature of the fury predators, likely.

I am about to chuck at least one of the cleaning ladies out of the building. She has been the source of all the problems with the night time cleaning crew. She is lazy(I find her lounging around while everyone else is working constantly), she is constantly late (15minutes to an hour), she also frequently fails to do her share of the work (instead it gets foisted off on the one girl of the three that isn't part of their culture clique), and she encourages her friend to bully the other girl into doing her work for her instead.

It is starting to piss me off. Things are not getting done like they should be and someone else other then ones responsible is having to not only shoulder the loud but take responsibility for the lack of work. It recently went up the chain though and supposedly the field supervisor will be in the deal with them tonight.

I was the only produce closer tonight. I clocked out a few minutes after eleven. At like 11:10 I'm at my locker and I hear our self-check closer paging that there's a produce truck in receiving.

Hahaha this'll be fun to see what it's like tomorrow.

I have been dealing with so many bugs at work lately I half expect the EDF to pay a visit. Found the third and fourth wasp nests of the past few months today and sprayed them both. Had to slosh warm soapy water on the spots that got sprayed because they are high contact but otherwise everything is ok.
