Will: where did you find Season 2?

Right here: http://www.peteava.ro/canal-160/inspector-gadget Though like I said before your computer will need an up-to-date Flash-player to see it. My Mac has too old an OS so I have to watch on a PC. Also, for some reason episode 9 is actually the French version of the Season 1 episode "Clear Case."

One of the few good things about season 2 is that Penny's wardrobe now includes more than just the one shirt. She has a couple of jackets that get a decent amount of screentime. By the way, does anyone else see the outline of a rabbit in the Gadgetmobile's window during the opening credits sequence? For years I'd always see this rabbit shape in the car window, ever since I was a little kid.

After poking around the net a bit I found something unexpected Yeah, that's an Inspector Gadget comic book. From 2011 no less! Has anyone seen this or know any more about it?

I hope this doesn't effect my plans for pitching a new Inspector Gadget show.

The only thing I ever remember about this show nowadays was when Pennie was captured or something.

[up] Actually there's an entire youtube channel that's just clips of Penny getting kidnappped, then escaping/being rescued.

It's a shame. I counted like 65 clips and I think she still has been kidnapped less than Princess Peach.

Eesh. I'm a bondage fetishist and I get squicked out when I stumble onto Penny bondage porn.

And normally I'm all for childhood-ruining porn.

Okay that's just sick. A little girl is involved. How can you develop a fetish in such a scenario?

[up] I've seen it happen most in people who were themselves about Penny's age at the time, or else slightly older.

It is kinda squick though, but that's what makes it fun!

The only time Gadget showed any form of competence was the pilot episode, in which he'd had a moustache.

In the following episode and beyond they took away his moustache and apparently most of his intelligence.

Known episodes where Gadget is semi-competant or deliberately does something useful to the plot:

"Gadget In Winterland"

"Haunted Castle"

"M.A.D. Trap"

"Photo Safari"

"Basic Training"

Five episodes out of 86, admitedly a little more than I expected (there may be more since I haven't seen the whole show, and none of the aforementioned second season) though at least the majority of them are pretty Crazy Awesome to watch. It's worth noting they are nearly all from the first half of the first season, implying they might have still been trying for a bit of balance early on.

Oh and, depending on how much you suck at playing it, the SNES game.

You're not going to find any "competent Gadget" episodes in the second season, so don't bother looking.

Generally, Gadget wasn't exactly an invalid, but he was way to oblivious to be anywhere near competent at his job (he took good care of Penny though) - though there are couple episodes where it looks like Gadget might have solved the crime... eventually... but would have taken far too long to do so. He's also really good at getting himself out of danger, when he knows he's in danger. There's a bunch of gags where Brain will fall over himself saving Gadget, who absentmindedly saves himself anyway.

Makes him seem too dumb to live in memory, but this distinction is why I dislike Gadgetinis, which really flanderized his incompetence.

Even in his competant bouts it is more often Penny or Brain that actually solved the case, Gadget's moments usually came from saving them whenever they ended up in over their head. Gives the idea Gadget may have been a more efficient bodyguard than a detective.

I heard he Took a Level in Badass in Gadget's Last Case as well (which if it's any consolation, takes place after Gadgetinis).

Gadget's Last Case was about Gadget's relationship with the Gadgetmobile (taken straight out of the movie) and dealing with a "Better" detective who was really Claw in disguise. It used some designs from Gadgetinis but it has Brain in it, so it almost certainly occurs before Gadgetinis. There was one other direct-to-video thing called Inspector Gadget's Biggest Caper Ever. It was all computer generated and featured a giant flying dinosaur. It wasn't very good at all. Interestingly Gadget and Claw have a lengthy scene where they speak to each other face-to-face, though of course we can't see Claw.

Gadget's most annoying trait wasn't his clumsiness or his obliviousness, those are kind of forgivable. What really irks me is how detached he is from reality. Once he gets an idea in his head, regardless of how utterly ridiculous it is, he will stubbornly stick with it regardless of absolutly everything. Like the time he got lost in the dessert and thought EVERYTHING HE SAW from that point on was a "mirage." Arnie Chow, fish people are aliens, dozens of times he thought he was at a hotel or part of a tourist group and went along with whatever happened despite the fact that he was on duty and had a case to solve. He once walked into a school and tried to get everyone arrested cause one kid stuck his tounge out at him.

[up]Oh yeah it's the CGI one that takes place last (despite him being an inspector again, guess it was only a matter of time before he got demoted in that show).tongue

To be fair, the mirage theory is rather Genre Savvy for a traditional cartoon character, just Wrong Genre Savvy in this case.

Gadget's Last Case is in the style of Gadgetinis, not 3D animated. The 3D animated one is Biggest Caper Ever.

[up]That's why I corrected myself.

Looking at Gadgetinis, it seems okay-ish. Gadget is even more brainless and naturally a lot of nostalgia is gone, but the animation is at least good and the plots are kinda in tone with the original. I liked they made Penny a bit more cartoony in the show as well, she seemed a bit out of place in the wacky universe of the original show.

I remember one episode where Gadget was commited to an insane aylum. Of course at the time I didn't know that's what was happening and was very confused by it. At first I thought he was being arrested and that was confusing in and of itself cause gadget's a police officer himself. After that I mistook the asylum for a hospital and still didn't know why Gadget was there cause he clearly wasn't sick or anything. Years later I actually believe that the authorities have grounds to have him commited, especially after all the times Gadget's broken logic has almost gotten himself killed.

By the way, does anyone have any idea what breed of dog Brain is?

Does anybody know where this show can be found legally? For some reason Netflix and Hulu both dropped it.

You want to download episodes? Not sure of anyplace that would sell them, other than the places you listed. However if you only want to watch the episodes you may try here. It even has the nearly impossible to find season 2. Though I'm not sure how many of those videos actually work.

Not sure how many of you know this but Gadget was partially produced in France. They even have a french version of the opening credits with a full set of lyrics. So... does anybody know what they're actually saying? I tried running the lyrics through a translator but the results were not pretty.

Try Jaroo, it has a load of obscure series. I think it has the feature length specials. They are in rotation however, so you can only view certain ones a week.

Otherwise Youtube probably has a few episodes online, unless they've had them taken down for copyright (it's inevitable they'll get reuploaded again though).

Netflix if you want to pay money.

Youtube has a decent chunk of the Season 1 episodes. Dailymotion has others. At least, between them there's all the episodes I'd recommend, not including the small amount of Season 2 episodes I'd suggest, of course.

Well, I looked it up on Netflix, and season one is available on disc, and four "seasons" are streaming, but only until the 23rd, which it already is in half the world.
