No, it wouldn't. We're trying to avoid things like that even as redirects.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI guess redirects aren't so free anymore. Just as well, because I sometimes suspect that they're not as useful as they first look.
Regarding the idea of a rename... I know the obvious argument for a rename - it's a character-named trope, which we are in general moving away from.
But on the flip side, the usage stats previously mentioned look healthy in terms of wicks/inbounds, and I don't think we're dealing with misuse. I can see an argument for a redirect, but I don't think we should do a name change.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.So.... Lock the thread then, so that the TRS tag is removed?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Redirects Are Free has always been that you can add redirects, as long as they otherwise follow site rules. For example, you couldn't add a redirect to Silent Credits called I Like Blue Bunnies, or one that said Fuck Fuck Fuck. They're as free as they've always been, which is to say, within the rules of the site, and not misleading.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickThe name could definatively need a change. While Mega Man is relatively well known, those who haven't played the games and only heard of him has no connection between the name of the trope and what it is about.
the only reason i expected anything about copying powers was because i came here from a character sheet for Kirby.
Something more descriptive like Power Copying Power or similar would be better.
Power Xerox. Skill Cloning. I think Power Thief is a different trope.
Fight smart, not fair.I think the Xerox Corporation has successfully fought to hold their copyright on the word, so I have to vote against any trope name that uses said word.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Yeah, "thief" implies that the original loses what was taken from them. Very much like the cut/copy difference in PC software.
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.Shouldn't the name be about the power itself rather than its user? I.e. Power Copying. I also suggest Power Mimicry.
And I say we should get a mod to change the thread title to reflect the change in the thread's focus.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.By "power" you mean the power to copy other powers, and not the power(s) that get copied, right?
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.Since Mega Man primarily takes the powers of Robot Masters that he defeats, how about Your Power Is Mine?
Changed the thread title.
I like Power Copier.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Power Mimic I think is similar.
Fight smart, not fair....except that the word "mimic" carries Ditto Fighter connotations...
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.Dammit. I hate this group, so many connotations that get in the way.
Fight smart, not fair.Oh, right. Then I stand by Power Copying.
Wait, when you said "power", were you referring to the first half of my post's first line, or the second half?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Which one were you referring to?
Power Copying: The ability to copy the powers of another.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Did you totally miss the Alt Text of my previous post? I should've enabled Joking Mode, sorry.
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.Oh. OH! Now I feel stupid for not catching the joke.
Okay, can someone explain the merits of names referring to the power's user, like Power Copier, over names referring to the power itself, like Power Copying?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Well, in most cases the ability to copy another's powers is tied to one character specifically as their special power....
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.Power Anything sounds like the force of the Ability or Skill is equal. I suggest not using the word Power at all. How about Ability Copier/mimicry/whatever or Skill Copier/mimicry/whatever instead? Since most of the time it is the Ability/skill that is being copied.
Crown Description:
Mega Manning (now called Power Copying) has various methods to get the powers. A split was proposed, and now there is a subtrope called Your Defeat Means I Obtain Your Powers (to be renamed) that is about getting powers after defeating the enemy. However there are other methods common enough to propose more splits or other actions to improve the trope. Vote up or down the following proposals. Please refrain yourself from editing any of them: it only leads people to vote things they didn't vote for. If you feel you have a better idea for the trope feel free to add it, but don't edit the other options.
Redirects Are Free, and Now I Have Your Power would be a good one.
