Details are still slim and it's mostly facebook chatter from family/friends but the video really speaks for itself. Do you think Casey acted out of turn? Was he justified in defending himself? Should the bullies' friends be punished?

I mean those sorts of kids tend to be little yipping dogs, sure, but to actually go out and hit someone? Little punk got what he deserved, was really hoping he would start crying though.

Don't get me wrong, the bullying kid definitely deserved some sort of comeuppance - but I'm not sure that this sort of thing should be valorised.

Kid was defending himself, that means lethal force is usable.

The question we must consider is whether or not the response was proportionate. I believe that's up to the jury, but I don't really know very much about American law.

I think it took place in Australia?

Schools are like prison. You have to choke someone before they'll respect you. Snitch and you're marked for life. Everyone seeks protection by joining up with cliques (read: gangs).

^ Most likely they wanted to avoid a lawsuit brought by the parents.

In other news: The bully deserves a prison sentence.

I doubt that'll dissuade them. Parents have a hard time accepting that their kid isn't the victim in any situation, even when the mean-spirited, rat-faced reality doesn't match up to the perfect and golden lie they've swallowed for years.

I'm hoping that this is a sign that ''viral bullying videos gone horribly wrong' will be the trend to replace 'viral recorded bullying videos'. Even if the self-defense is disproportionate, it's still better than the enforced learned powerlessness that's so popular with administrations of all kinds right now. Notice how those who need the non-violence message the most never recieve it?

That would be unfortunate, but the smaller kid started the fight, so it'd be his own damn fault. If the larger kid had intentionally tried to cause such serious damage, that would be another story. But then again, it's all hypothetical anyway.

had shit like this happen to me at school. a 16 year old would throw me around when i was 12 just for looking diffrent. what does the school do? suspend me and nothing happens to my attacker

plus i had a gym teacher who encouraged others to attack me during gym class by throwing basketballs to my face and if i told shed make sure bad stuff happened. now i suffer from borderline PTSD
