Then again, it used a single HP bar for the entire mech, didn't it?

It had a status bar vaguely indicating how much of your armor was toast. Usually a good idea to resupply before you hit "1 bar of plating"

My other signature is a Gundam.

Holy crap those are some beautiful graphics, and for an indie dev? I'd love to see something that good-looking on a console. The art style looks cool too. I'm not a fan of mechs, but the gameplay will probably be at least adequate like most indie developers who have the skill and passion to make a game of this technical caliber. I'll be looking forward to the PC version.

Something tells me mechs don't make good snipers, as they'd be easy to spot.
This is true, but since mech targets don't go down in one hit anyway, it's often convenient to have some less expensive or less well-armoured mech taking up a firing position behind the rest of the forces and unloading with heavy or otherwise over-specializing long-range weapons.

(This is of course talking about game mechanics, based on my experience with other games)

Maybe not as snipers, but possibly as designated marksmen. Mechs that can pepper the enemy from afar while other, faster mechs close to short range and use machineguns and rockets.
Well, okay, so basically what Charlatan said. :$

I'm not sure mechs would make poor snipers, if they're from sufficient distance. Then again, most FPS games don't give you enough map space for that to be a factor, and snipers in the traditional sense are considered "unfair."

Because they are. That's the whole point of that type of combat.

Sniper Cores work pretty well in the Armored Core series, although, because of the games being in third person, it was more "really long range" mechs.

^ In the first Armored Core games like Master of Arena, the really really long range sniper rifle type mechs (like that 10 round super laser that did like 2000 armor points of damage) were your best option at beating Rebel AC's.

Anyway, since I only just found this thread: I do think this will be fun to play. It looks like they're having a great time designing it too!

"Sniper" Mechs could be a lot like anti-tank vehicles. Tons of range and firepower in each shot, not much armor or rapid fire.

Aw, I was hoping for a Gundam-style FPS. There hasn't been one of those since Shogo.

This does look pretty neat, however.

Ah, Shogo. I don't think it was a very good mecha game, but it was a decent shooter with an equally decent story (and interesting campaign).

Still no news...

Good news, everyone! First-person/gameplay trailer once they get photos of people standing beside 16 different landmarks.

...Weird contest.

Mech Assault was a TPS, and wasn't really Gundam-y...

I'm having trouble finding things I don't like about this game.

Also, I figured out some of the HUD. From left to right:

  • White (number): Unknown.
  • Bigger red numbers: Health.
  • Red circle: Jumpjet charge.
  • GRENADE / TURRET: Some sort of deployable special, with limited supplies

Also, the ship seems to be involved in some sort of game mode (top left of screen: some sort of score).
