We don't need recognizability, we need illustration. What's in that picture that indicates which guy is the hero and which guy is the villain?
Rhymes with "Protracted."Ugly Heroes Good Looking Villains is a blank page.
EDIT: The page is Ugly Hero, Good-Looking Villain (just the one of each apparently).

Hmm, let me think. Maybe that [1]◊ Quasimodo is clearly not very beautiful and saving the Princess, while Frollo has a smug smile and a sword. I don't know if you can qualify Frollo of Good-looking though. Another Frollo/Quasimodo one◊
The Beast vs Gaston is a good idea, but maybe we could have a composite of Gaston looking evil (like Gloating or about to strike) and the Beast looking heroic or gentle? (I'm thinkng the winter scene with the birds)
First Quasimodo picture might work. The main problem I see with it is that Quasimodo holding Esmeralda kinda makes him look like he's kidnapping her (And Frollo isn't the best example of beauty). The second picture makes Frollo look way too ugly to be an example.
I'd prefer a shot of both the hero and the villain in the same shot, if possible.
Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.I don't think Frollo is an example. Calling him good-looking seems like stretching into Draco in Leather Pants territory to me.
Rhymes with "Protracted."How about Shrek and Prince Charming?
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing. That's a good example; is there a still that can represent it well?
Rhymes with "Protracted."There's probably a good still shot from the climax of Shrek II that would work.
Unfortunately, this◊ is about the only decent pic I've been able to find of them together, and I don't think it shows Charming's evil enough.
On a sidenote, Neck Lift has since used the "Beast and Gaston" pic, so it's no longer an option for this trope.

What about Quasimodo and Frollo from an adaption other than the Disney one? I've seen some where Frollo is rather attractive and Quasimodo is...Quasimodo.
In Bruges had these two guys◊, though it might be hard to find a picture where the good/evil aspect is more obvious.

This implies, quite correctly, that my mind is dark and damp and full of tiny translucent fish.Bump...I kinda like the second Quasimodo/Frollo pic above.
The HOND one has Esmeralda in the pic, though, which can be kind of misleading given how she is good-looking without being evil. (Granted, comparing male standards of beauty to female standards is kind of comparing apples and oranges, but still...)
There's a lot of overlap between this and Beauty Is Bad, and to a lesser extent, with Evil Is Sexy. Perhaps we could look in those tropes for potential images?
The Shrek & Prince Charming suggestion sounds good. I'll see if I can find any good images.
Maybe we can find a better and different of the Beast and Gaston. Man I wish I could have a DVD of Beauty and the Beast to screen cap. Because any time during their battle (minus the necklift) I'm sure would make great for some great images.
This is Mimi-don't let her cuteness fool you-she's got spunk.I think the biggest problem with Beast/Gaston pics is demonstrating Gaston's villainy and Beast's heroism at the same time. I'm sure there are ways to do it; I just can't think of any caps that do.
First key to interpreting a work: Things mean things. You're thinking of Lord Faaquad, from the first movie.
D'OH! Never mind, then.

I would be inclined to think Beauty and the Beast would be recognizable enough.
