so, I just finished the game with Anjali. I like how they show you the results of all your choices in the ending cutscene, and am eager to play through again with someone else, both for the different combat experience and so I can make different choices. Speaking of combat, man is it fluid! This is easily my favorite implementation of a dodge roll in any game I've ever played. It overall seems to be an extremely polished game.
Now the real question is who do I play through with next? I had Katarina as my companion for most of the game(yet only got to 75% influence with her...), so I probably won't be using her.
XP granted for befriending a giant magical spider!Reinhart is pretty awesome and fun, once you get the Geometry of Annihilation spell the trash mobs go down fast (bosses are still quite tricky and challenging though)
Been playing the game for about a week now. I finished the game with Katarina, and I'm about halfway through with Anjali. A couple of the achievements I should have gotten the first time through didn't register for some reason, but I've still managed to get about half of them unlocked.
As a fan of the first two games, I can say that, even though the controls and leveling system are different—even more so than they were between 1 and 2—the game still feels enough like a Dungeon Siege game to get a positive nod from me. The graphics, while more intensive than the first two, are more fluid thanks to a vastly improved frame rate. In 2, running the same setup I have now, I get about 60 fps with the basic equipment and no scenery effects in view, but start adding party members and enchanted weapons/armor and the framerate can dip to the teens in a crowded battle, and hover around 30 in the same areas that had 60 with no effects.
Storywise, the game follows closer on the heels of DS 1 than anything else in the series, despite being set several hundred years later. Events from the rest of the series do get a Continuity Nod from time to time, but not nearly as much as the original's story does.
The characters are well done, and can be quite funny at times. Lucas Lampshading the branches blocking your path into the Mournweald conveniently moving out of the way is one of the most memorable moments for me, second only to Reinhart's introduction if you're playing as anyone else. Katarina gets a few good ones in, as well.
My only real complaint is the music. While it's not obnoxious or inappropriate for the settings, it's also not as memorable as the music from the first two games. I wonder if they even tried to get Jeremy Soule to do the music for this one. It is good in it's own right, but it could have been better.
All in all, it's a very good game, whether you're a fan of the series or not.
New patch coming for the PC that allows keybinding and also improves the WASD controls to allow for proper moving left or right instead of just rotating the camera. This is one of the main things I wanted improved and it's awesome they're patching it up so soon.
It should, DS 3 is really well optimised and runs quite smoothly- try running the demo and see how it works.

I wonder if my 3GB notebook with just 1.75 GHZ will support the game
http://steamcommunity.com/id/Xan-Xan/Seconding the love for Katarina. The voice actress is really strong as well — brute forcing the door is absolutely hilarious with her, and pretty... samey with the other characters.
This post has been powered by avenging fury and a balanced diet.Bumping the thread for the announcement of a new DLC.
I had thought DS 3 wasn't that successful commercially but I guess it must be ok for Squeenix if they're still allowing support and content for the game (unlike, say, Sega cutting off Alpha protocol).
I was just the other day wondering about this. The main game does end with a pretty loud call for a sequel. Cool.
This post has been powered by avenging fury and a balanced diet. The DLC was planned a long time ago.
Jonah FalconSo far the most polished game that Obsidian ever made,
Maybe Square Enix have something to do with this
http://steamcommunity.com/id/Xan-Xan/I'd say it's more to do with the fact that it's their own engine and cause the game isn't as ambitious as their other games.
Which doesn't mean it's bad. Oh no.
This post has been powered by avenging fury and a balanced diet.Square did. They delayed the game for a few months basically saying, "This ain't ready. Sit your butts down and fix it."
Too bad LucasArts never did that. Instead, they were, "It... MUST... BE... OUT FOR CHRISTMAS!!!"
Jonah FalconDont forget SEGA, and Bethesda
http://steamcommunity.com/id/Xan-Xan/So, I have been thinking about a small break from Skyrim, and I love Obsidian...is this game recommendable?
Instead, I have learned a horrible truth of existence...some stories have no meaning.Wait on a good sale and get the dlc since it adds an enchantment system and another 6-8 hours of content.
It's got Obsidian's best combat system and it's their most bug-free game (didn't see any bugs myself and I don't think most people did either) but the storyline isn't that great by Obsidian's standards unfortunately.
Thanks you...a shame about the story, it's what I love of Obsdian.
Instead, I have learned a horrible truth of existence...some stories have no meaning. The action-RPG genre doesn't allow much flexibility in the way of storytelling, really. Not without miles long cutscenes.
Jonah FalconSo this game + its expansion + the first 2 games are currently on sale for $9.99 on Steam. I bought it on a whim. Do you guys think it's worth it?
Alright, Obisidian, I bought your game. This is your chance to redeem yourself after the... unpleasantness of the last game of yours I played.
Anyone know if the Steam version of Dungeon Siege 1 has the expansion pack? Can't find any mention of it on the store page. I actually bought this game back when it was new, and played it to death... I might still have my level bajillion skeleton jack-of-all-trades laying around somewhere in my hard drive.

The last game of theirs I played, which was in fact Alpha Protocol. Or should I say... Not Very Good Protocol.
So, out of curiosity why didn't you like Alpha Protocol?
The gameplay and bugs?
Cause DS 3 is very stable and probably has the best gameplay of any of Obsidian's games. But the game doesn't value player choice as well as Obsidian's best stuff.
Also, DS 3 full pack is easily worth the $10. The dlc adds another 6-8 hours and while DS 1 doesn't come with the expansions, it can run the Ultima 5 Lazarus mod which is freaking brilliant.
Thank you Nicknacks and Shadow Scythe.
Am I the only one who has to resist the urge to burst out into song whenever I hear the name Jeyne Kassynder* ?
