...
You sir, are in for a fun time.
It's great to see the new guys wonder what's going on. I really want to get back on this.
One Strip! One Strip!I know, right?
Also, been a while since I did any of the new content, let's dip a toe into the possible histories again.
...
........
screaming monkey noises
That's a RED Chronicle oh my god.
Oh fuck, now I really need to get the remake.
"And when the last law was down and the Devil turned round on you, where would you hide, the laws all being flat?"It's possible that it's a false alarm, I'm being told the situation is, ah.... an irregularity. That doesn't explain "Spoiler Content", but I'm specifically not following up on a few of the new content threads until I finish more of the main.
....eh. I'll finish AH Final and follow up on that one, at least.
Got the agent situation settled after another Bad End on the Rosch path, so I went down the Heiss path again. I've just beaten the Sand Fortress section and its hard — but fair and fun — boss.
The bandit boss duo from earlier was annoying, too, but I beat them up also so I can go down the Rosch path again later.
Haven't talked about the party members yet. Raynie and Marco are a fun pair, while Stocke is kind of generic but still likeable.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Met up with the token loli Aht and decided to not endanger her performing troupe. Stocke's starting to show how enjoyable he can really be between his forced friendliness and the snark he threw at Raynie.
Also, Aht can see the guides? Interesting.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Finished the game. I... think something might have changed? I remember needing to finish some key quests to unlock the grave scene with Rosch. I've done like two key quests, they're all in the alternate history, and one of them is part of the PW chain.
Anyway! Time to finish some quests. I'm ready to finish most of the Alistel key quests; they're easy and I've done what groundwork there is for them. Once I'm done with that I'll do Journey's End and Unwanted Reunion, and then really start the PH. Will have an update about that spoiler from earlier soon!

Double posting for a few things.
First off: each one of the character sidequests has a spin-off event in the possible worlds, and a new bad end.The reward for completing the event chain is a passive card for that character. Rosch and Gafka get robbed, but all the other ones are REALLY good.
A few non-party NP Cs have sidequests now. Elm and Garland off the top of my head. Basically characters with portraits.
The possible worlds are more of an anthology, but there IS a short alternate timeline: one where Noah, Alistel's founder, is alive and taking a hand in events. Finishing that lets you drastically alter a late game encounter.
A handful of the late possible worlds rebound onto the main story in smaller ways. I think they may have moved one of the ending triggers to the possible worlds, too.
Postgame status (holy spoilers don't click until or unless you're ready): Red. And honestly it should have been obvious from looking at the color of the possible world timeline...
PS: The Master is still a bag of dicks.
EDIT: 239 events after seeing every main timeline(s) event before the ending. Let's see what happens...

Defended the mine and got to Chapter 1.
Raynie has issues. Poor girl.
Dias and Selvan be plotting. Also more hints that Heiss is involved with the time travel shenanigans and possibly the real villain, but I don't buy that since it's way too obvious.
Raynie's clearly crushing on Stocke.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?I admit that I completely missed Raynie's crush during my first playthrough of the original. The voice acting makes that a million times more obvious, at least.
Also my god Aht is a monster: she poisoned the FINAL BOSS, who is explicitly IMMUNE to poison. EDIT: Small correction, the final boss is poison resistant. Still
EDIT 2: Sweet christ there's still thirty base timeline events after finishing everything.

Just found the Technique Scroll guy and got to enjoy that conversation. Man this game is great.
I feel like you don't get enough money. I've only just bought one weapon for the first time.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with? You're right actually. They cut the gold drop by a bunch. I won't say it's because they're pushing the grinding DLC but...
But, ah, once you unlock the Vault of Time you'll be able to kit out your characters pretty decently if you're willing to spend ten minutes earning bonus currency. The stuff is top-tier whenever that shop upgrades, and the final weapons and armors that become available are Infinity Minus One Swords for each character, and boost crit rate (weapons) and limit break gain (armor).

So there is a Limit Break mechanic? I thought something was missing.
Cutting gold drops to encourage you to get the grinding DLC is lame.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with? That does seem annoying, especially as the previous version was largely grind-free (except for if you wanted to rectify certain cases of Can't Catch Up).
"And when the last law was down and the Devil turned round on you, where would you hide, the laws all being flat?"Thinking it over some more, I think the money is... half balanced? As in, before I finished the game I had enough cash to buy every party member a Queen Stud. And did. And now, partway through the postgame, I could do it again. It's balanced for the end of the game, not the start. Which is obnoxious, because by endgame you have enough options. To wit:
- The handful of chest weapons and quest rewards
- Enemy drops (rare enough you have to be looking or lucky)
- Enemy steals. @Karxrida: these show up around chapter 3, try using Steal as a combo finisher. Focusing on steals is a good way to make boss fights take forever though, so maybe don't worry about that outside of the Demigod node and the boss that has La Tormenta.
- the Vault of Time is a second item store, so you'll never need to spend a single gold piece on a consumable. The weapons/armor there are comparable to what's available in shops the chapter they show up.
So yeah, not super well balanced, but you can mitigate it.
The fuck is the Vault of Time?
More Rosch route until I can figure out when I learn to sword dance. Stocke continues to be more and more likable — loving his camaraderie with Rosch and Sonja.
Hugo was a politician once and had Viola Kicked Upstairs. So I guess we're working on Black-and-Gray Morality?
Heiss just implicitly threatened Stocke. What's his deal? Despite this, I stand by my belief that the game is setting him up as a Red Herring for something.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with? The vault is the bonus dungeon that got added to the remake. It's kind of pathetic since there's no treasure, but it's a good place to bring Rosch up to par when he falls behind. It opens up in chapter 2.
Oh and you can buy two passives for each non-Stocke character there. The second ones are only available near endgame, but they're stupidly broken. Yes Rosch, please give one character a STR/MAG/DEF/MDEF/SPD buff. What's that? You want to Glare and break the next enemy's turn? Yes, please.
I think the Stock/Rosch relationship may be one of my favourite in the game. It's really rare to have JRP Gs with two veteran soldiers, since usually the protagonists are too young.
"And when the last law was down and the Devil turned round on you, where would you hide, the laws all being flat?"Picked up the launch copy. Is the Classic Art DLC available yet?
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!I've sunk about three hours into the game now. It's been a while since I've touched the original (I did two playthroughs if I recall, one blind and one aiming for 100% Completion) so while I remember the overall gist the exacting details are still coming back to me. Like I completely forgot about the turn-swapping mechanic, for example, or how easy it is to get rocked if you don't score a preemptive strike.
I appreciate some of the QOL improvements I'm seeing so far like Leaked Experience and sidequest NPCs being clearly marked, and the voice acting's been pretty good so far, even if it is a little jarring when generic NPCs are talking to main characters. As far as identifying the English voice actors, I'm pretty confident on these picks so far:
- Stocke - Xander Mobus
- Raynie - Lauren Landa
- Marco - Ben Diskin
- Heiss - Joe J. Thomas
- Raul - Chris Cason
- Hugo - Patrick Seitz
- Sonja - Wendee Lee
- Lippti - Melissa Fahn
I think Robbie Daymond's in there two as either Selvan or Dias, one or the other, am I'm pretty sure I've heard Richard Epcar in amongst the Voice Grunting. Maybe it's stockholm syndrome talking, but I was thinking this while I was playing Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse too, but it feels a little odd listening to an Atlus dub that doesn't have Yuri Lowenthal in it
Heiss teamed up with Hugo to try to get Rosch killed. Little shits.
Viola is awesome. Love her design.
Decided to send reinforcements to Viola... and got a bad ending.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?So I need to learn a skill from the Satyros to continue down the Rosch path, but I can't do the Heiss path without knowing the sword dance.
How do I get Keil to teach Stocke sword dancing?

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Second floor during The Valkyrie.
That's it? Okay.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?
So the Black Chronicle is a thing.
Calling it now, the owner is either Eruca's brother or Prophet Noah.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?
