My wish: Generations 2, with Special Stages and Chao Garden. grin

Entering false hope modeā€¦

Maybe the reason Sega didn't give Generations any DLC is because they wanted to save the content for the sequel. They could be developing one for the 25th anniversary.

Well you have an ultimatum.

Sonic Boom 2, or Generations 2.

Which do you choose?

I'll gladly have a sequel to Generations.

Or a Spiritual Successor.

Jim Sterling lays down the law and points out every single problem I've had with Sega's handling of this series:

Youtube has a lot to say about Sonic, it seems.

Did Super Mario Galaxy/3D/Land/World generate this much controversy for mixing up Mario's gameplay?

No, because those games are actually refined and play pretty similarly to each other.

And if i recall, Galaxy got world acclaim from damn near the entire gaming community. If there are people who hated the game, I sure as hell haven't seen them.

Don't think so, then again, last I checked those games weren't as choppily made and rebuilt from near scratch as Boom.

And of course theres the perk that comes with being a beloved series that everyone thinks "can't go wrong ever" so anything that would damn another franchise only scratches the belowed franchises reputation for a short while.

Sonic seems to walk a weird line between "belowed money maker" and "doomed franchise."

Yeah, the difference between Nintendo and Sega is that Nintendo generally puts a lot of time and effort into their games so even the worst Mario game I can think of isn't considered bad, just lazy.

@BSC video: I watched about eight minutes in before the Jimquisition video was linked and I think I'm going to like these guys. I'll probably watch some of their other videos later. And it reminds me that I should also finish watching most of Pokecapn's group L Ps.

@Jimquisition video: I haven't really watched any of his stuff before, since I felt (based on what I've heard of his style) that he leans more towards the "caustic" side of Caustic Critic, which is largely hit or miss with me. That said, he repeats how I've basically felt about how SEGA has been handling Sonic, so I liked the video. The only difference is that I have generally enjoyed every Sonic game I've played, except for Chronicles.

I think we can safely say that the Sonic Boom game is a sales flop, to go in hand with its critical thrashing. It seems like with the underperforming sales of Sonic Lost World and this, will a third flop be a last strike for the games before it's clear it's a white elephant for Sega and others?

Also, what does it say when even an Alien tie-in game, plus a freakin Football Manager game (both published by Sega) outsell their flagship series?

I noticed something.

Sonic 5th Anniversary: Terrible

Sonic 10th Anniversary: Awesome

Sonic 15th Anniversary: I think you know how this went

Sonic 20th Anniversary: Great

So don't get your hopes up for the 25th.

[up][up]To be fair, I'm pretty sure that Alien game was really highly anticipated, and Football Manager is Football Manager.

The PS 4/ONE game is the LAST HOPE for the franchise after this spat of awfulness.

Unlike Lost World and the Boom games, I think Sonic Team can actually put effort into it, since they probably won't try to "experiment" and go safe.

...This is just borderline fanaticism now.

Also, friendly reminder that ST had nothing to do with either Boom.

I wouldn't say it's their last chance, but it's clear people are getting fed up. And the games are only going to sell less, so it's only a matter of time.

I'll laugh if the next Sonic game is for all three Gen 8 consoles and it sells the most on the Wii U. Also, please don't get into that last hope nonsense.

I will say this in Sonic Boom's favor: At least Amy has a personality outside of "is in love with Sonic" again. In fact, I haven't seen her flirt with Sonic at all.

[up][up]Being playable and actually apart of the story helps.

I mean, she had more of that in Lost World too, but her role was so minor that it didn't matter.

[up][up][up]In Episode 3 of the cartoon, it's revealed she does still have a crush when Tails' pseudo-mind reader bot almost blurts it out. She hasn't really acted on it, though.

Sonic also is implied to care about her a bit as well, though probably not romantically.

[up][up]True, but it doesn't show well when their only scenes of them interacting boil down to "Eww, Amy's flirting with me again."
