Come to think of it, wouldn't it make sense if Shade was rebooted in some way for the main Sonic games?

Shit, I loved Scourge. He's THE antithesis to Sonic at the end of the day, and another reason I want SEGA to legally destroy Penders.

Also, there's also the idea that shit works when you put them under a capable writer. Ian Flynn worked with Penders' material, and he made it work.

They probably could bring Shade into the main games, but won't because Chronicles didn't do well so they have no incentive to.

They wouldn't bring back any characters from Chronicles because as soon as the game was released Ken Penders sued them claiming that they stole his characters

Speaking of Ken Penders, he also did the cover artwork for the Sonic SatAM DVD box set.

The court case surrounding that is a standstill, but Ken can't pick it back up unless SEGA uses characters or ideas from the game again

Going back to that one idea of a Sonic villain as cruel as Frieza, what if he did stuff like injuring Tails so badly he goes into a coma, beating Knuckles within an inch of his life, and flogging Amy until she starts weeping in agony?

Then give said villain a beatdown worthy of satisfaction.

As you guessed, a Sonic villain with this level of sadism would be a Hate Sink.

The flogging part is way brutal even by Sonic standards. And the other two tone it down as well as points out.

Honestly, I can't see any of those scenarios ever happening in an official Sonic game. They sound more like something that would happen in an edgy fanfic. People getting beaten into comas or flogged until they cry is really a level of violence that doesn't fit with the Sonic games in my opinion.

Well...it does, so whatever.

Sonic was captured and tortured for six months in the games.

After that, most things are fine.

The torture happens offscreen and Sonic barely acts any different afterward. I wouldn't put that on the same level as Tails being beaten into a coma. I know Sonic can have dark stuff but I still think those scenarios are pretty excessive.

I'm pretty sure the "Sonic has been tortured for 6 months" part was put in by the dub, because at no other point is it implied that Sonic was tortured or anything.

Just to clarify, it's more like Tails receives a single injury so bad it leaves him comatose.
