General Sonic The Hedgehog thread

There was an old, old flash animation on Newgrounds about Sonic actually getting separated from Super Sonic, and Super Sonic taking on his own identity. But then he decided to beat up Sonic's friends, Sonic wound up in jail, and then the animator had a hissy fit about Sonic being Ruined Forever and swore off Sonic animations until SEGA got a clue.

So, yeah, that never continued. Still, it was the only time I'd ever seen the two physically separated.

That sounds really like wasted potenial. I despise Author Tract so....

You expect a Newground's flash to delve deep into a potential plot idea? Especially one based on a video game franchise?

I'd expect a animator to not use it to whine. A parody is one thing but using your skills to make a complaint? That is just a waste of energy and time....

I assume you've never watched any of Egoraptor's stuff.

Or, well, half the stuff on Newgrounds.

Egoraptor is critic. I never really liked Newgrounds so I can't comment to much on that.

A critic nobody but the most diehard follower takes remotely seriously, so the parallel still stands.

When was this, by any chance? For added humor, of course.

Even Arin himself doesn't seem to take his own criticisms seriously.

Sequelitis aside, I'd call Egoraptor more of a troll than a critic. Like, honestly, I don't get the people who actually take him seriously when he's clearly taking the piss most of the time.

I am not sure why that is relevant. Egoraptor always liked to focus on the more comedic aspect of things even in his retrospective videos. He doesn't waste his talent as far as I am concerned.

Delving into a interesting story idea with your animation and then derailing it with Author Tract just to make yet another complaint about SEGA handling Sonic comes off as rather unnecessarily bitter to me. Talk about alienating your audience...

Also, if we are talking about the quality of storytelling in animation on Newgrounds. While I don't like Newgrounds I am aware of a few good animations that have decent storytelling that have come from that site or has at least been featured there.

I just hate seeing wasted potenial moreso then anything else.....

I don't get it either. I'm a big fan of Arin, but I usually don't take his complaints and criticisms seriously most of the time.

2005, according to the publish date. The 3rd and final episode came out June 2006. I'm not sure what, and am too lazy and tired to check which Sonic games we were up to around that point. Heroes I think.

Well actually with that observation, I guess the flash wasn't that old - still.

Okay never mind. I can see why he quit. I believe that's exactly when '06 came out. He likely rage quit out the fandom due to that.

I think I actually recall which animation your talking about too now I think about it. It's been so freaking long since I watched a lot of Sonic Web Animation though.

06 was Christmas Rushed; regardless of how many sob story "break-ups" it ended up spawning, this evidently wasn't one of them.

Shadow is generally next up as far as Hate Dumb is concerned, though.

Doesn't mean you can't try...and people have tried.

Why does he need to trademark Echidna?

I think he means break-ups as in between fans and the series (As in Sonic 06 broke their hearts so much they no longer followed the series. Which is quite frankly, understandable). Not real-life relationship break-ups.

I hope we get a new main series Sonic when the next Boom comes out. Also I would not mind a more serious tone with it the comedy is getting kind of annoying imo.

I remember an Archie comic of Sonic fighting an energy clone of Super Sonic. He lost, but the clone destabilized from using too much energy.
