I've checked the disc under a light, and there are a couple tiny little scratches on the surface - like I'm talking about the length of the head of a micro USB plug. I know discs that are absolutely shredded and still mostly work - this one is more or less pristine.

This sucks. I don't want to take it back, because the guy's super-nice and I browse all the time without buying, but I really want to play this damn game. It shouldn't be my Playstation - the thing was running Arc the Lad just last night, and Final Fantasy X for months.

Just ran Arc the Lad again - it's the disc. God fucking damnit. It's seriously almost like brand new, this shouldn't be happening.

Tried intentionally smudging the disc over the few scratches. Didn't work. Tried turning on Diagnosis mode. Didn't work. At this point I'm thinking of just downloading a copy of the PC version.

Seems nice enough. Shame I won't be able to play it since Sega's only releasing it on Apple devices. Fucking Sega.

Also, that death animation is worse than 06's infinite break dancing. At least that was funny.

I got Sonic Heroes to work. I didn't "fix" any real problem, I just opened and closed the lid like I'd already done a couple times, and it mercifully decided to work for me. I can tell this is going to be a problem disc.

As for gameplay? Well, uhh... not as fun as I'd hoped. It's very clunky, the camera and gameplay mechanics (like Sonic's walljump) are flawed, a lot of loosely working mechanics so far have lead to slowdowns (not lag, but the characters slow down) and a couple of deaths, and Tails' voice isn't great by any measure. Also, the rings are fat.

Positives so far are the good music, Knuckles' VA is pretty good as is Sonic's, and Knuckles' abilities are cool. So far my favorite gameplay style is Knuckles due to his gameplay breaking the camera far less and leading to less accidental deaths, followed closely by Sonic due to his speed, and lastly Tails because his hover isn't very good. Knuckles' style is more grounded and not "flip the fuck out and fly off a ledge", but Sonic is just so much faster, y'know?

As for loadtimes so far... bearable. Destiny has longer load times - I can stomach a little pre-level lag. No fuss.

I've only played the beach levels as Team Sonic, and most of Grand Metropolis (where I ran out of lives). I can at least stomach this game better than Sonic Riders, which had really floaty gameplay without much momentum. I can say as much for Sonic Heroes right now, but at least the flaws are distributed evenly, and are evened out by the other characters.

So... yeah. It's not the crown jewel of my collection, I can see some Sonic 06-esque instability in places (but at least there's an autosave, amirite?), but it's tolerable and I reckon that it could even be fun once I get into it. As long as I don't have to pass these levels with an A or higher.

The thing I remember the most about Sonic Heroes was how absurdly long the levels were. Seriously, on your first run these things will take like 9 minutes. And since the levels are split into "duos" with the same theme back-to-back (seriously, I have a feeling they originally had fewer levels with acts like the Genesis trilogy but then canned that idea), then you'll be spending basically 15-20 minutes in the same level theme. Ugh.

Sonic Heroes wasn't long... :/ At least I don't remember it feeling that long. Hmm. I guess I could hook it up and see, I've still got my old unfinished save file (stupid Chaotix missions)

I know Team Dark had the lengthier stages.

If your on Android, there's a link to an .apk that'll work anywhere right on the frontpage of Sonic Retro right now.

I'm on 4G right now and I don't want to chew up my data but I'll probably play it a bit and post my thoughts soon.

SEGA is going to focus more on IOS gaming.

I really hope that SEGA will still be alive enough for Sonic to be in Smash Bros. Alternatively, if it gets to the point where Sega is bankrupt, they could sell Sonic to Nintendo.

At the Cytube Troper Coven - http://cytu.be/r/tropercoven we're gonna be watching the Sonic the Hedgehog anime movie in 30 minutes (8 PM EST, that is) (you can join before the movie to watch other vids in the "pre-show"). Stop on in or at least let other Sonic fans know!

Basically, we'll be watching the movie and having a livechat at the same time, as we riff on its cheesiness (the movie is an anime based on Sonic CD and infamous for its awful English dub).

Check it out!

[up][up]I like the dub in a Narm Charm way. The voices are way off but the acting itself is okay. I think it adds to the silliness of the movie.

Anyway, if I ever do come back to the Coven, it's not gonna be for friggin' Sonic of all things.

Although I'm getting the impression that this thread gives zero fucks about fanfics, Imma ask again.

So, because I really want to explore their characters again, I'm thinking of writing another Sonic fanfic. The problem is, I have two (well, technically three but one is a sequel) ideas and I'm not sure which one to do. Would you guys rather see a sort of sequel (they share continuity but there may only be a minor reference) to Some Time with a Good Friend that's similar in tone (Sonic and Blaze chill after a party with some potentially romantic undertones) or would you guys rather see a sort of crossover between Sonic and Jet Set Radio (it's the plot of JSR but with the Sonic cast and Adaptation Expansion)?

Alright so....... Sonic Runners. It ain't "bad" by any means, but I really dont feel the game is "Sonic" enough. Personally, I was expecting Runners to play like a infinite runner version of Sonic Rush where you autorun and your inputs and limited to jump, spin dash and boost but it's even more basic than that. There no boost, jumping is literally the only input and rolling into a ball is done automatically when you go down a hill, which to be fair gives incentive to take the bottom path over the top (your exchanging speed for points.) Hell, you can't even choose when to activate items as they always auto activate (making purchasing items with rings before each match basically pointless since you're forced to activate the item at the start of the game.) Overall, I'm disappointed since I really feel the "Sonic formula" would be a natural fit to the infinite runner formula, but what we got was a (admittedly polished) Canabalt variation with a automatic momentum based spindash and the Wisps.

[up][up] Of course its got Blast processing, it's a Sonic game tongue

Just for reference, blast processing isnt actually a thing. The them was initially thrown around as a tongue in check way of referring to the Genesis' ability to access it's RAM significantly faster on vertical refresh than horizontal refresh, but the marketing team latched on to the name and basically turned it into a Green Rocks esque term to describe why the Genesis was totally way past cool compared to the lame ass Nintendo.

[up]Blame autocoreect

Also, going back to my thoughts on Runners if there's one thing it does right, it's the combo system and how you can continue the boost you get from a ring/canon/spindash if you keep collecting items for a bit.

Also, I'm surprised they didn't alternate between Secret Rings style 3D and the 2D stuff they have now. Hello, I'm still surprised that Secret Rings doesn't have a mobile port yet since that one would probably work really well on mobile tbh.
