I've been watching this show as it airs, and even though I do feel like I'm missing something by not knowing Japanese, it's still really fun to watch. Next week is the Gokaiger meets Magiranger episode!

Posting several episodes after this, I'm waiting on TV-Nihon to release their Episode 16 subs.

I, for one, am excited as hell for Gai to appear this coming weekend! At first glance / listen, he kind of reminds me of Genta, but I kind of like the fact that he's basically a huge Sentai fanboy being drafted into the ranks. x]

I personally cannot wait to see how they make this Power Rangers. Though I have an idea that'd be awesome but highly unlikely for Gokaiger adaptation. Get David Yost back and make Billy the pacifist Green Ranger of the crew, and say he created the keys. He was last seen on some other planet, so it could even work that the Empire took it over.

SO UH. Apparently the Gokaigers get the Goseiger powers in the crossover movie, 'cause #17 just started with them busting out GoseiGokaiOh? I think, Keyhole TV has really bad sound but I could recognize the cards anyway.

edit; okay scratch that, it's just an attack and not a full-on mech addon, like Gekiranger's was.

The series has been awesome so far - unlike Goseiger, which I dropped by episode 7 (though I've heard it gets better), it has kept my Sentai fan and action lover on.

And apparently according to the actor's blog... Gai Yuuki/Black Condor is going to return Back from the Dead. I hope you're satisfied.

This series is filled with too much win. I completely adore it. :)

When it eventually becomes a Power Rangers series (I'm sure it will, this is too good a Cash-Cow Franchise to pass up), I hope they use at least some non-Red Rangers for the cameos...I'd love to see Karone and Adam again, among others. :)

There have been quite a few non-Red cameos. The latest one was Matsuri Tatsumi/GoPink, while the Hurricangers will return next week. As in all main three of them.

Episode 31.

Is it just me, or did this show just level up? That episode was awesome. OK, I'm a sucker for The Bad Guy Wins episodes, but even aside from that, the whole battle was just epic. It was especially cool to see Gai whip out a ton of new techniques instead of just stock footage.

I find it kinda funny that they choose the big wham episode to be during the tribute episode for what was at the time the least popular season of Super Sentai.

[up] It makes me wonder if Bandai and Toei are working closely with Saban and Bandai of America to make this show an international sensation in the future. Because, guess who would be the guest star of this if it were faithfully adapted for Power Rangers?

That's right, Tommy freaking Oliver. Imagine him in Oh Red's place and the whole thing works fantastically from an American fan's perspective.

Either that, or it's because the tribute episodes often seem to be going for the same tone as those series - and Ohranger is known as being one of the darker seasons. (Haven't seen any Ohranger, so that's pure speculation.)

EDIT: Or, more likely, Ohranger was such a bomb that they figured that, since the nostalgia wouldn't be strong enough to carry the episode, they should make the Ohranger Grand Power a footnote in a much bigger episode.

The fact that they haven't received any pre-Zyuranger mecha outside of the movie does make me think that they have been working with Saban, at least to an extent.

Also, as to when this is adapted into a season of Power Rangers, it works out to be the show's 20th anniversary season (if you ignore the rerelease of the first season.) So it wouldn't be too unlikely for them to be willing to pull out all the stops for it.

[up] Well, they might be sticking to recent Sentai series just because that's what most of their target audience (kids) is familiar with, anyway.

I would really like to know what gets talked about in the marketing meetings for this show.

I want to see how they're going to market the Gokai Machines in America, since there's no third mech coming anytime soon. The closest we're getting is Machalcon's combination with Gokai-Oh.

Has there been any news on whatever next year's sentai will be? I would have thought there would be some announcement by now. Regardless of what it is, it's almost certain Gokaiger will be a Tough Act to Follow.

So, the show is over: What did everyone think?

I felt that the nostalgia frequently kept the plot from being as good as it could have been.

The fight choreography was consistently some of the best I've seen anywhere.

Basco was awesome and made every one of his episodes worth watching.

Ackdos Gil was a VERY flat and uninteresting final boss. But then, everyone after Basco, Damaras, and the Great Walz got badly overshadowed (except maybe Zatsurig).

The Gokaigers themselves eventually grew into a really lovable and memorable cast. I can't even quite pin down a favorite out of Doc, Luka, Marvelous - with the other three being in an equally vague second tier for me.

And there's something to be said for a show that did such a fantastic job doling out geekgasms and Squee and HSQ.

Others' thoughts?

I wish they had worked the individual past rangers into the plot more. For instance, what they did with the Timeranger tribute, that was brilliantly done. There should have been more things like that, where they have rangers from different past teams appear, bounce off of each other, have the time used to explain previously unexplained things about past series, that sort of thing. It overall could have been weaved together a lot more interestingly then just having a tribute episode of the day sort of thing.
