Bad enough Disney is doing this shit
Just re-release the already fantastic original animated films to theater you prats
you wouldn't even have to spend any extra money!
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youThey paid for the damn musical.
But in my opinion, the first Shrek was horrible.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Yeah, I'm not down for a Live-Action Shrek Reboot, because Shrek doesn't translate well to Live Action. The Human-played Shrek in that play to this day looks odd to me, and a realistic-but-CGI Shrek would also look ugly. Leaving Shrek as a stylized 3D Animation is the best way to go, in my opinion.
Also, because of the typo of "life-action", all I can think of is "Shrek is Love, Shrek is Life-Action".
I really hope Trollz is good. Because I really dont want Dreamworks to sink in mediocrity.
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.So I sawThe Prince of Egypt again recently for the first time in years.
I was honestly quite floored because my rewatch of this film exceeded any and all expectations I had.
- It has some of the absolute best animation I have ever seen in ANYTHING. The film consistently tops itself and shows an immense level of artistry and ambition that easily rivals anything that was made in the Disney Renaissance, from Moses' and Rameses' chariot race, Moses' meeting with God, the plague sequence, the parting of the Red Sea, etc. It is one of the most epic animated films ever, literally.
- The story and characters are extremely well-handled. Moses is one of the most well-done messiah characters I have ever seen. He constantly struggles with his own doubt, guilt, and shame, showing that being a savior is never easy. He never wishes any harm, even to the egyptians oppressing his people.
Rameses is sympathetic and well-written villain with real and understandable motives for his behavior and his relationship with Moses is heart-breaking. Seti is a real bigot and oppressor, he doesn't think of the slaves as people but genuinely loves his family. Miriam and Tzipporah are both good female characters, though the latter is a little under-played.
The fact that the story is based on the Bible is irrelevant. Its themes and ideas transcend religious boundaries.
I read on TVT that this movie was a real passion project and was made as an artistic effort first and foremost, which is why there wasn't that much merchandising for it. I can believe it. It feels like everyone involved in this movie gave 120% and it really shows. It honestly is a masterpiece.
I'm so sad that theatrical 2D animation is dead in the west because it means we might never get a film like this again ):

Saw Trolls.
Unfortunately it won't stand a chance against Doctor Strange, which came out on the same day. But it still put me in a great mood!
I saw Trolls as well. It was eh. Not bad, not good.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?I like two or three of the songs too, but that's not even near most of them! I don't usually warm up to the modern youngsters' music.
If you want any more proof that the NBCUniversal acquisition of DreamWorks was all about the IP, Cartoon Brew is reporting a rumor that not only is DreamWorks' India studio in the crosshairs of a shutdown, but that their film slate could be reduced to just one film a year.
The way I speculate it, either Universal is more focused on investments in neighboring China, or they're weighing in on merging DreamWorks' animation operations with that of Illumination.
Either way, the DreamWorks as we have known for our lifetimes may be reduced to just a name now.
"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherPutting out so many films on one given year was overkill anyway. We have to worry about the actual quality and soul of the movies being stripped away and we have no evidence to suggest that has happened. It will take a while so we can be sure though...
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.Bad news from Dream Works and Universal: DWA has axed The Croods 2.
"You can run, but you can't hide from the Buzzinator!"Ugh. I kind of knew this would happen when I heard about the India studio being in a transition. I also wondered who was exactly asking for a Croods sequel. But any news like this is horrible for the production crew.
Hearing Doug Walker's analysis on it a few years ago got me to revisit it. I remember going to the theaters to see it when it came out with my parents. I was 8 at the time. It really is an underrated movie that's gotten better for me as I grow older. I actually would have loved to see that animation team adapt more works from the Bible.
I got a feeling that The Croods sequel won't be the only thing on the chopping block.
I fear for what may happen to Mumbai Musical, Puss in Boots 2, B.O.O., and all the other pre-acquistion projects that haven't made it past script stage.
"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherI really hope Puss in Boots 2 doesn't get thrown on the chopping block. I wasn't a huge fan of the first one, but what little we knew about the sequel genuinely intrigued me.

Man, Universal is really bad when it comes to Animation and Animation Studio's that involve Ex-Disney Employees.
Here's hoping they don't kill off or merge Dreamworks with Illumination.
How Dreamworks movies continue to perform will probably be a big deciding factor in all of it. To the very least, I can see Universal following what Disney did with Disney Animations and Pixar, and put the reins of both studios under one creative head.
It would be set in the world of One Thousand and One Nights.

Peace is the only battle worth waging.That...sounds pretty interesting.
Well, yeah, I find it only logical that Universal should determine the course of action for DreamWorks Animation by seeing how its movies perform.
It'd be really apalling of them to just take everything that DWA was working on and throw them under the bus.
And another thing, everyone's kinda going ballistic over the fact that Universal is acquiring DWA, but IIRC, weren't Dream Works and Universal sort of buddies/partners back when DW was still pretty new and their animation division didn't split from the rest of DW?
According to Wikipedia, Universal only handled the home video releases of their live-action films (at least before their stint at Viacom). Incidentally, Universal started distributing their live-action films last month.

Peace is the only battle worth waging. With both the live-action and animation sides of DreamWorks now (back) with Universal, I do wonder if any of the three parties have entertained the thought of merging the two halves back into one singular "DreamWorks" studio as they were before.
