So I am making a Bullywug Psion that I am trying to specialize in domination effects. ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD

Any ideas for a multiclass that helps?

Are we talking 4E?

Sadly, psions are actually pretty poor at domination up until 23rd level (when they get Sudden Control). Betrayal (level 3) is decent though. But as a rule of thumb, Enchantment mages are just outright better at charms.

Yep, I have so far Psion, Paragon path "Thrallherd", so I have one guys going ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD all the time.

Well, wizards have a few encounter powers that are worthwhile for a charmy type. Charm of the Defender can be useful if you can manage to get a bunch of enemies adjacent to an enemy with a really powerful basic attack, for instance.

Wizards also have a few dominatey powers in their dailies.

Possibly, the thing to do would be to build him as Wizard, but with Psion multi-class so you can still take Thrallherd. Or there's the option of going for full-on Psion/Wizard Hybrid, so you might be able to grab the decent Psion powers as well.

Edit: Yeah, after looking it over, Enchantment Mage with Psion multi-class is definitely how I'd do it. I certainly don't think any self-respecting Hypnotoad would pass up a chance to have an At-Will that's actually called 'Hypnotism'.

Enchantment mages are just !@#$ing awesome. It's *possible* to go the enchanter route as a hybrid psion/wizard, but you lost 90% of the benefits when using psion powers anyway so why bother.

The only reason to ever go psion as an enchantment type is if you expect to get to 23rd level. Sudden Control is really really good for an at-will.

Personally, I love some of the high level charm powers. Charm of False Glory is a slide-a-pa-looza, especially when combined with Glowering Wrath.

I was invited to join an ongoing campaign by a guy from one of my classes—we've been friends for three years and I mentioned I was looking for a group. we've met once so far, and I had a fantastic time. I really like the setting and the way it's set up, I really recommend it.

as for the bag: thanks. I did draw out a pattern with marking-chalk, based on what I saw on the internet, so it wasn't free hand. but I'm really happy with how the image came out.

Random question: Is there any kind of rogue in 4e that can be found in either one of the PHB's or one of the Essentials books that makes use of his Int score? Failing that, is there any part-rogue or rogue-like multiclass build that uses Int for anything, is advisable to use, and can be found in the aforementioned books and/or Psionic Power?

EDIT: I'm not actually really planning to make an Int-based character or a rogue; I'm just curious.

The cunning rogue has intelligence referenced in like ... two powers or something. It's from Martial Power 2.

They WANTED to have Dex/Int rogues, but they didn't figure out how to do it.

[up] 16 Rogue Powers with Intelligence as a secondary stat. No dailies. Just at will or encounters. Still, enough to mostly build a whole character.

  • Gloaming Cuts - Attack 1 (At Will)
  • Preparatory Shot - Attack 1 (At Will)
  • Skip the Rock - Attack 1 (Encounter)
  • Deadly Knowledge - Utility 2
  • Cunning Step - Cunning 2
  • Flattening Shot - Attack 3
  • Shadow Steel Roll - Attack 3
  • Lurker's Assault - Attack 5
  • Deadly Sacrifice - Attack 7
  • Fitting Demise - Attack 7
  • Strike of Dancing Shadows - Utility 10
  • Fell the Strong - Attack 13
  • Killer's Retreat - Attack 13
  • Killer's Gift - Attack 23
  • Killer's Ambush - Attack 23
  • Shadow Boxer - Attack 27

:/ They have Int-based Warlords. They're fighters, for chrissake. How d'you make that and not figure out how to make a rogue?

Well, what about multiclass feats? Are there any reasably not-shitty multiclass rogue/??? builds that use Int? Maybe psionic, or something?

Warlords aren't fighters. They're tacticians.

As for Dex/Int multiclass, nope! The closest thing to useful would be a hybrid Rogue/Artificer.

And I'm pretty sure Artificer is in none of the PDF's I currently have. :| Alright, then; one or the other it is.

Good thing I wasn't invested in it; might not even end up making a new character.

second game went well too. an NPC took an arrow for me (I failed my reflex save), but I healed him so he didn't die. It was close though. We managed to fight off the ambush, but upon returning to the safe house where our friend's recently rescued friend/love interest was hiding, we found it empty and trashed. so that's exciting.

hah. no, though he was asking me out just before. (my character is a little bit engaged so that didn't go over well. well, she's engaged but her betrothed has been missing for a while. She's trying to find him, assuming he's still alive. which he might not be, it's all up to the DM)) It got him in the shoulder/collarbone, almost the heart. luckily, the two Player characters with him were both waterbenders so between us we got him stable before the battle started.

Good day, friends. It is I once again.

My 3.5-fanatic roommate is planning to start a campaign sometime in the future that I'm actually rather looking forward to. It's supposed to be somewhat of a disciplinary measure for our usual group in that it will be very low-level, low-magic, low-stats and low-everything-in-general, and thus will favor actual roleplaying and actually building characters that work together to survive rather than being a bunch of all-powerful gishes. So that'll be an interesting change of pace.

While powergaming won't be encouraged or even possible with the few resources we get (level 2, only core races, point-buy 15, low budget and low availability of anything, restrictions on rulebooks that aren't known yet...), I would like to get an overview over my options already to be as successful as possible anyway in what I'm trying to do. I'm rather enamored with the idea of this ordinary, constantly worried-looking guy who gets really attached to his friends and fights tooth and nail to protect them. We're still going to have a session at some point to decide who plays what role, but I'm pretty sure no one will want to be a defensive meat-shield as much as I do.

I'd like to play a human Knight, because that class is pretty fun flavor-wise and is a lot more fun still when you strip the character of his knightlihood and just make him a poor peasant with more heart than brains, but the Knight is also unfathomably terrible because balancing core classes sure must be pretty hard I guess?! I don't know. The miniscule bonuses it grants are still appreciated in such a low-power environment, and Bulwark of Defense is pretty good and one of the very, very few skills you actually get to make opponents actually focus on you. Test of Mettle is another potential thing, but it's another question entirely if it'll actually work, and the effect ends as soon as anyone else attacks the affected targets, so maybe I'd just switch to Fighter or something after the initial three levels...

A Paladin would work, too, of course. Would at least give me almost tolerable saving throws, though the class is a little too mystic for what I have in mind. I guess a Barbarian would work with the concept, too, although I do miss the potential for any defensive measures. I guess a good offense is the best defense, but... Well, or a Fighter is always an option, of course. I always shudder at the thought because "Fighter" is so incredibly generic, but the (lack of) flavor inherent in the class shouldn't deter me from giving it my own flavor, I guess. I could possibly even go for a grappler like this? I don't know how effective that'd be at the kind of battlefield control I want to accomplish.

Any ideas? I know Goad exists as a poor man's "Test of Mettle", and at least it's indefinitely renewable, but Charisma is still a resource I'm low on... A build focusing on disarming opponents would be good, for example, but that requires an Int of 13+, so I'll suggest a Swashbuckler with that focus to someone else, I think.

Greetings, folks,

the hub page for this work, Dungeons & Dragons has been reported in the Long Term Projects thread on overly long pages, since it has 444329 characters and is in need of a split. Is there some good scheme for splitting that page? Thanks.

Sure, split them off by settings. Dragonlance could be it's own page, for example. Each setting is only really connected by the D&D brand and the general level of technology. At least in my experience, haven't read then all.

Settings already have their own pages. Otherwise, alphabetical sorting works best.

Just looking how the page is set up now, I'd suggest splitting off a separate Dungeons And Dragons Official Settings page (as has been mentioned, a lot of them have their own individual pages, but there's still a ton of stuff about them on the main Dungeons And Dragons page), and possibly the entire "Editions" folder — either put it in Trivia.Dungeons And Dragons or else spin off a Dungeons And Dragons Editions page. That would take out a huge chunk of text without actually touching any of the content on D&D itself in terms of tropes the game itself uses.

Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.
