The original Crysis and Warhead had DRM too. Did you really expect anything different?

The big question is what kind of DRM it is. The original Crysis had a disc check, which was rather annoying, but bearable. Warhead does not, but it does have initial online activation.

I hope it's just an initial online activation and/or that Steam handles most (if not all) of it.

I heard this game has lower graphics than the first one.

That sucks. They should have made the graphics even better.

That's not entirely true. The game DOES have better graphics if you have the rig to handle it.

But it now has lower settings to people with medium rigs can at least handle it - and have it look good.

So while it can look far better than the first game, you can play it on lower settings (and still look really hot.)

Simply put, they made it more scalable so that the consoles wouldn't seize up trying to run it. Lower-end hardware can run it more smoothly, if not as technically good-looking, while top-of-the-line P Cs should be presented with a game that looks better than the original.

That's what Crytek is aiming for, anyway. It's hard to tell from the trailers because most of them are of the console versions, and I should add that the urban environment of Crysis 2 means that they can get away with having lower draw distances and smaller maps than the original and Warhead.

And back to the plot: I'm not very familiar with Peter Watts (here's his homepage), but they hired him and Richard Morgan (if this Rock Paper Shotgun article is correct) to write Crysis 2's plot, so it might actually be decent this time.

But this isn't new. They did this with Crysis Warhead. Maybe it's the fact that the first Crysis couldn't sell shit til a few years later when people had the rigs to run it.

I decided to download the multiplayer demo to see if my machine was up to the task. After I managed to get past some annoying glitch that wouldn't even recognize my in-game account, I finally got to see this beast in action.

To keep it short and sweet, the videos of the torrented beta copy of Crysis 2 do no justice to how gorgeous this game looks. Yet truth be told, you really can't appreciate the graphics when everybody's trying to chase you down and you keep dropping dead every twenty seconds as a result. But despite that I decided to give the highest settings (hardcore) a quick spin and Jesus Christ, even a freaking AMD Phenom II six-core processor, 8 gigs of DDR 3 memory, and a ATI Radeon HD 5570 was brought to it's knees; just what the hell does it take to run this thing at max!?!

I had to lower it to the "advanced" settings in order to make the framerate playable. But despite that, there's still some noticeable slowdown in my system. I'm thinking that the only way to get around that would be to overclock a part or two in my comp tower.

Also gotta look into getting a controller for the PC, cause I absolutely suck with FPS controls on a keyboard...

Goddamn this game is pretty. I've set up an account for the Beta, so I'll hopefully get around to playing at some point.

My God I tried the demo and wow, it makes Unreal Engine 3 and the Source engine look like utter shit.

Best part? Yes, it can run. I don't think it was the max settings, but I definitely got at least 30 fps and it was still extremely pretty. Real Is Brown my ass.

I have to admit, I'm not liking the new Nanosuit or the new Interface. I much preferred using the Mouse to quickly flip between modes, rather than just pressing Q and E. It just felt a lot more fluid. I can understand Console gamers having a problem, but if you're using a console to play Crysis, changing modes is the least of your worries. The fire starting up behind your console is.

[up][up][up]Same. Playing the multiplayer demo on the PC and the 360 made me realize that if I got a gamepad for my PC, I would kick all kinds of crazy shit into hell.

[up]True, just can't get used to the keyboard as a controller. Having to "type in" my attacks never works out beause I tend to make a few mistakes every now and then when typing, and having the "Grenade" key so close to my left pointer finger usually ends in utter disaster. But what's really killing me online is that the mouse seems unusually inaccurate in this game - normally the mouse is the single best thing about using the keyboard setup, but here it seems REALLY unweildy for some reason. I think it might have to do with the fact that the demo was actually based on the X Box 360 version; notice how the options menu has "controller" as a selection?

Anyhoot, the real reason why I was planning on pre-ordering Crysis 2 is to see what my system's limits are, not because it's a big name FPS. If I weren't because of that, I just would've got it for the PS 3, period. Still might do it that way if it turns out that the DRM for Crysis 2 is some new horrible system...

Well, a lot of games nowadays on PC have options for gamepads, hence the controller options. Also, have you guys noticed the difference between the auto-shotgun Jackal on PC and the semi-auto Jackal with a 7 round clip on 360? Interesting difference, IMO, plus the 360 doesn't have that annoying-as-all-hell motion blur.

I played the multiplayer demo (on Xbox, yeah yeah) today.

Has it always been this...average, or is the original different?

It does. Same killstreaks, even.

Frankly I'm disappointed. I was expecting something more...I dunno, more. It's definitely very pretty, but the maps I played on (Skyline and Pier 17) both felt very cluttered.

The original Crysis was rather open-ended, allowing you to take any approach to complete an objective.

Is the sequel seriously linear?

I don't see how the multiplayer maps would be indicative of what the campaign is like, but then again I might need new glasses.
