Fist they killed Crash Bandicoot, then Tony Hawk, Then Gutiar Hero, then Spyro. What's next, Call Of Duty? They can't live on that alone. Maybe they're doing this because of Sonic Colors.

I am completely, utterly, and thoroughly done with Sola Sonica and 2D

We have enough topics on this.

EDIT: I thought this was another Guitar Hero one. Never mind.

Maybe they're doing this because of Sonic Colors.

No, it's because of simple greed. See, Activision LOVES money, and...

I doubt it, they're using a sort of "Use, abuse, and throw away" strategy. They buy an IP, squeeze as much profit out of it as possible, then dump it when it stops making money.

As utterly stupid this is, it'll keep them afloat as Blizzard is still making crap loads of profit. At least until Blizzard wises up and jumps ship, that is.

Also what does Sonic Colors have to do with this?

They already killed Call Of Duty after being Corrupt Corporate Executives and firing them after Modern Warfare 2 was released, because afterewards they'd promised Infinity Ward control over the series.

But yeah, considering the amount of crap they've been pulling I won't be too surprised if they go under at some point. No one will miss them.

Well what's happening is that they aren't delibrately cancelling franchises at random, they are cancelling stuff that aren't "profitable" enough. They milk series as much as they can, and cancel them when people become bored. Now, when people get bored of World Of Warcraft and Call Of Duty (at last!)... they fail to see that their success could end up being their downfall.

Hmm. I'll admit, this actually seems like a reasonable statement. I'm surpris—

Maybe they're doing this because of Sonic Colors.

20 Bear Asses they can't! As long as mindless zomb-er, people keep buying them, Activision will gain money.

Suicidal implies they have any intention of going down with the things they're killing, so it's not that so much as kleptocratic.

Activision, if left unchecked, will bring about the end of gaming.

Well, from a commercial standpoint, the "Use, Abuse and throw away" strategy is workable provided that you're continually developing new franchises to replace the ones being retired.

So I guess the question here is what new Franchises are Activision working on or likely to acquire?

I don't see how Sonic Colors even begins to be related to this.

It's more frustrating waiting for the asskicking than the asskicking itself.

I think the problem is just Hanlon's Razor. Kotick may not be evil per se, but he apparently has no clue how to run a video game company.

The "use, abuse and defuse" seems like a poor strategy to me, atleast.

Wouldn't you want to keep a profitable franchise alive? And you know, not make it suck?!

Also, I think Miru is just being a Fan Boy.

Kotick cares more about the dirt under his fingernails than he does about Video Games or Gamers

He just wants to make money, and he's sadly doing it.

[up] Because he can just move to another Cash-Cow Franchise after he sucks the blood out of the franchise.

He's a god damn vampire.

Wouldn't those franchises also have to be successful? Because they can make new franchises all they want, but if they suck...
