Wasn't this chosen by a previous IP after long deliberation?
Wait, I'm thinking of Heroic Dog. Never mind.

Fight smart, not fair.Is, as Inspector Clouseau would say, a beaump.
Jet-a-Reeno!Remember, though, the Wonder Dog trope name is a little misleading. It's not just about any Heroic Dog (and for that matter, might not actually be a dog, necessarily), but about an extraneous dog.
The fourth Ace picture sort of fits that, I think.

Jet-a-Reeno!Not saying it's JUST a heroic dog....I was focusing more on this sentence of the trope...
"The insertion of an animal sidekick into a property that normally wouldn't be expected to have one."
I normally wouldn't expect Batman or Superman to have an Animal sidekick.
This is Mimi-don't let her cuteness fool you-she's got spunk.Well, it's Superboy in the picture, and what's more natural than a boy and his dog?
But, no, I get what you're saying, and it's probably my Fan Myopia that I don't see anything unusual about Krypto and see Ace as only somewhat bizarre.
Jet-a-Reeno!Lol, well I saw ALL the animal sidekicks as strange of the Silver Age....I mean yeah weird-but I could more or less accept the cat (Streaky) and the dog (Krypto)....but....a SUPERHORSE?!?!?!
But I still find it strange. Animal sidekicks were always just....WEIRD to me.
This is Mimi-don't let her cuteness fool you-she's got spunk.An animal sidekick definitely seems out of place for Batman.
Rhymes with "Protracted."I think this cover might be the best illustration for Ace - and even has (jokingly) the sense of "the Wonder Dog is stealing the spotlight from the heroes."
Ace wears a mask, of course, to protect his own secret identity!
Jet-a-Reeno!How about one of the Disney (or disney-esque) animal sidekicks?
Jafar and Iago◊ from Aladdin;
Rasputin and Bartok◊ from Anastasia;
Victor, Hugo, and Laverne with Quasimodo◊ in Hunchback of Notre Dame;
Rapunzel and Pascal◊ ... ...

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.I'm going to say....I expect Disney to have Animal Sidekicks it's very normal. It's not weird or that quirky....yes EVEN the hunchback example....simply because it's disney and that's what I expect outta them.
I'd still go with Krypto or Ace

This is Mimi-don't let her cuteness fool you-she's got spunk.Yes, it's a a Creator Thumbprint of Disney and Disney Imitators, but if some one simply said "It's an adaptation of The Hunchback Of Notre Dame" would you expect gargoyle sidekicks? An animal sidekick in Rapunzel?
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.I like Ace the Bathound one.
Either the Ace pic with the Batsignal or the cover with the photo work for me.
Bump.
First key to interpreting a work: Things mean things.Anything wrong with a composite picture in this case?
It was either a penguin or a panda, but the choice is far less black and white than you would think!Clock is set.
Maybe this would make a better question for TRS, but what makes a dog "extraneous" or "unexpected" anyway? That sounds like a rather YMMV sort of thing.
It breaks my heart, because the image is so delightfully insane, but Rex, the Wonder Dog really isn't an example of the trope, which is basically about the insertion of an animal sidekick.
The image doesn't suggest any of the "extraneous dog" elements - it's just a rather extreme version of a Heroic Dog in action.
Rex's immediate predecessor, however, might fit. Streak the Wonder Dog was introduced as Green Lantern's dog, and basically wound up taking over GL's title in its last day (and led DC to realize that a series like "Rex" could sell based on the dog alone.)
Streak: Caption should be something like "Do you see the title character and star anywhere on this cover?" (Or, actually, something wittier to that effect.)
Jet-a-Reeno!
