Relevant, and I may start a new thread for this. The Singularity has gotten enough recognition to show up on Time.com
(link is to Yahoo's copy of the article). It makes for a thrilling read to see the entire thing laid out like that, even though I'm already familiar with the general concepts.

I'll tell you how I end a culture war:
I build several wonders in my cities and raise my rate of producing a great artist and then start having them create works of art in my border cities for 6000 culture points a shot. Soon, I have the opposition assimilated.

^^ You sure you want to do that? Conservatives are the ones who have shitloads of guns, grow most of the food, and are used to operating independently. If the culture war started it wouldn't even be fair.

It was called Empire and was notionally written as the backstory to an RTS. I have no idea if that ever came out. Basically the Evil Strawman Liberals decide to resort to armed secession to get their Evil Progressive Society enacted (with 'Mechs, I might add) and the Noble Traditional Hero unravels their plans and reveals them as Straw Hypocrites. So yeah.
