I think it's pretty evident that Adults Are Useless in the show, especially since even the babies have a much greater common sense than they do.
Also, REPTAR
You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction. In an episode where Grandpa tells a story about Stu and Dru's past, they have Rugrats-ish thoughts too. This makes me wonder if the adults had them too but only forgot about them as they grew up.
Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life. The parents in that show are so neglectful. Something I never realized as a kid.
I've been rewatching a lot of the old episodes on Netflix recently, and I forgot how hysterical the episode "Kid TV" was.
"How did this happen? Why did this happen? Nobody knows!"
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaHow come Lipshitz, child "psychologist", could barely take care of a child?
Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life.Because he's a big fat phony!
It's really funny when you watch one of those episodes with him and pretend that Lipschitz is Lickboot from Tom and Jerry: The Movie (because are voiced by Tony Jay and both have got to have money).
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/Yeah, adults in Rugrats are useless. Stu got pwned by Angelica to the point where he lost control of his life.
Susie's mom and older sister were generally competent, though. I guess when you're a doctor, you get a little something extra.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~Madrugada^ Hence why they have a hypercompetent daughter, you might say.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Kimi's Mom Kira, as I recall, was above the average competence level of most of the other parents as well. But that might just be because she was only really there for 2 and 1/2 seasons.
You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.I dunno. Susie's dad wasn't the brightest spark either. Then again, he was basically Stu off the caffeine—wacky job involving kids and all that, but a lot more mellow.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaOne wonders if there are any Rugrat's memes besides Stu [verbs] at 4am.

There's one that's similar.
"Stu? I didn't know you were coming over."
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatWho wasn't surprised about that? It's even on the soundtrack.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/...Holy cow, I thought for sure that was a Mondegreen and I was deluded all this time.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaThat was asshole? o_O
Then again I'm not too fond of Rugrats The Movie - I don't really like it. I prefer the second one.
Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life.Oh man. I forgot about that. Hilarious in Hindsight as I used to listen to the soundtrack all the time. I was 5 at the time and I remember my parents playing it for me in the car on multiple occassions.
We're going to spread this shit like Nutella.Although I don't think they're saying "hole," that's just a hip-hop cheer. The "ass" is definitely there though, but it's in the context of "drag your ass," which is a distinct phrase. ...But still.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaThey (actually Busta Rhymes, an artist whose albums usually had Paternal Advisory labels) say "blow dry your asshole". It's amazing that Nickelodeon, the MPAA (who probably would have given the film a PG rather than a G) and the music censor people never caught that.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/Say, what episode did that "I'm not ____" come from?
Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life. The title escapes me at the moment, but I think it was "In the dreamtime" but I could be wrong.
Yep, it's In the Dreamtime.
Don't Press Your Luck too many times in life. You'll just get whammied.
I always wonder how the adults "forgot" their baby life, or how they somehow fail at parenting.
Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life.
