The Empire of the Ancients - A Now-Crashed Party

-A certain Archeops receives a faceful of pie-

<Emperor!Archeops: "(*splutter hack*) GACK! I THINK I SWALLOWED SOME OF THAT FILTH!">

-And wipes the face from his eyes enough to see the defamatory banner... And Team Nova standing around looking content with their accomplishment-

-To Limna, visibly fuming-

<Emperor!Archeops: "Rrr... Normally I arrange for serfs that are avian like you to have some measure of leniency for such insolence... I will make an exception for you!">

-Calling to the various guards in the hall-

<Emperor!Archeops: " GUARDS! SEIZE THEM! ">

Doc: -Looking around- Guys, I think it's time to go!

Crochet: -Slices through a nearby tapestry, causing it to fall on some guards-

-Team Nova then beats a hasty retreat, chased by guards-

-The door opens partly, but then jams-

<"...">

<Lardna: "... Well that's convenient. Give me that gun.">

-And shoots a portal through the gap and one into the wall beside them, enabling us to file through, heading into an automated factory of some sort-

<Lake: "Psst! Did we remember to take ours, Stratus?">

<Stratus: "Er... Oops... I must have left it back in the chamber back with my snack...">

<Lake: >_< "... It's alright. We've still got a gun... For 5 mons...">

???: "BRILLIANT! YOU ALL MADE IT THROUGH! WELL DONE! FOLLOW ME, WE'VE STILL GOT WORK TO DO. AT LEAST SHE CAN'T TOUCH US BACK HERE."

-At that exact moment the lights all go out in the factory-

???: "WHAT'S HAPPENING? UM. HMM... OK. OKAY! DON'T MOVE!"

<All: "...">

<Pepper: "... This is ridiculous...">

???: "... OKAY. ALRIGHT. I HAVE AN IDEA. BUT IT IS BLOODY DANGEROUS. HERE WE GO..."

-And a chunk of the catwalk we are on is abruptly illuminated-

???: "AAAAAA! ... OH FOR... THEY TOLD ME IF I EVER TURNED THIS FLASHLIGHT ON, I WOULD DIE. THEY TOLD ME THAT ABOUT EVERYTHING. I DON'T KNOW WHY THEY EVEN BOTHERED TO GIVE ME THIS STUFF IF THEY DIDN'T WANT ME USIN' IT. IT'S POINTLESS. MAD."

<Lake: "I'd say that that's sad, but honestly? I'm not sure if I blame whoever did that.">

-We happen to pass by several conveyer belts littered with various robot and turret parts-

???: "OOH. IT'S DARK DOWN HERE, ISN'T IT? THEY SAY THAT THE OLD CARETAKER OF THIS PLACE WENT ABSOLUTELY CRAZY. CHOPPED UP HIS ENTIRE STAFF. OF ROBOTS. ALL OF THEM ROBOTS. THEY SAY AT NIGHT, YOU CAN STILL HEAR THE SCREAMS. OF THEIR REPLICAS. ALL OF THEM FUNCTIONALLY INDISTINGUISHABLE FROM THE ORIGINALS. NO MEMORY OF THE INCIDENT. NOBODY KNOWS WHAT THEY'RE SCREAMING ABOUT. ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING. THOUGH OBVIOUSLY NOT PARANORMAL IN ANY MEANINGFUL WAY."

<All: ._.>

<Stratus: "... Robots can't have ghosts, right?">

-And we reach a large drop in the catwalk where a section has been lost to time-

<Pepper: "... I'm not sure if we should try our luck with that one...">

<Lardna: "Why not? We did that all the way over here...">

<Pepper: "Do you not see the rust caked on that thing down there?!">

<"... Hmm... She might have a point... But there's nowhere to cast a portal around here...">

<Stratus: "Here! I can help!">

-And proceeds to help us down-

2 Minutes Later

<Stratus: (*huff huff*) "Heavy lifting is so tiring... I need something to eat!">

-Patting, which at my height, amounts to a kneecap-

<"We'll see what we can do, okay?">

-And we press on-

???: "THIS LOOKS DANGEROUS, I'LL HOLD THE LIGHT STEADY."

-And see a moving series of pallets-

<Lake: "... You have got to be kidding me..." ._.>

<Lardna: "Oh, come on... It doesn't look that tough!">

-And leaps down-

???: "NICELY DONE!"

<Lardna: "See?">

<Pepper: "Behind you!">

<Lardna: "Hu- WHOA!">

-And hastily runs out of the way of some automated welding irons-

<Lardna: "I'm okay!">

???: "QUICK, THIS WAY!"

-And Lardna quickly makes her way to a catwalk to the side before the pallet passes through a rather hot-looking machine-

<Stratus: "... Can you all hold on at once? I think that maybe if I make fewer trips, I'll get less hungry.">

<"... Sure?">

-And Lake and I climb onto Stratus' back, while Pepper clings onto Stratus with a vine-

<Pepper: "... Are you sure this is a good idea, Stra-?">

-And he takes off, burdened by almost his own weight in other mons... Which leads to him flying rather low-

-Approaching some welding irons-

<Pepper: "AAAAAAAAH! PULL UP! PULL UP!">

-And Stratus attempts to... And loses control-

<Everyone Other Than Lardna: "AAAAARGH!">

-And crashes into the catwalk a short distance from her-

<Lardna: "... Did you have a nice trip...? Or rather, 'fall'...">

<Pepper: "I can't tell what's more painful right now... Being sat upon by Stratus, or your sense of humor." @_@>

<Lake: "Please make the room stop spinning..." @_@>

-And we start to pick ourselves up and regain our bearings, and follow after the personality core, jumping over occasional small missing sections of catwalk past what happens to be some illuminated pneumatic tubes with cubes passing through them-

???: "HERE'S AN INTERESTING STORY, I ALMOST GOT A JOB DOWN HERE IN MANUFACTURING. GUESS WHO THE FOREMAN WENT WITH? ONLY AN EXACT DUPLICATE OF HIMSELF. ENDED UP GIVING ME THE WORST JOB, TENDING TO ALL THE SMELLY POKEMON."

<Stratus: "HEY!">

<Pepper: "I take offense to that! Meganium are aromatic!">

???: "THE... UM... SORRY. I WOULDN'T SAY SMELLY. JUST ATTENDING TO THE POKEMON. SORRY. THAT JUST SLIPPED OUT. A BIT INSENSITIVE. UM... THE SMELLY POKEMON..."

-And we reach a dead end, which would normally require portaling to reach...-

???: "WE HAVE TO SPLIT UP FOR A MOMENT. GET UP TO THAT PASSAGE, AND I'LL SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE."

<"... Maybe we should let you make a portal so that we can skip some of this factory. I mean, we only almost got seriously hurt a couple times as is...">

<Stratus: "Eh? What do you want to do then?">

-Firing an orange portal into the wall in front of us, before handing the gun off to Stratus-

<"When you find someplace with white walls that looks big and not ready to fall apart at a moment's notice, point it at a wall and press the rightmost button.">

-Taking the gun-

<Stratus: "Got it! Hup!">

-Were it not for the fact that Stratus is flightworthy-

-The personality core illuminates a wall with racks of parts passing by-

???: "CAN YOU MAKE IT TO THIS LANDING HERE?"

<Stratus: "Heh... Easy.">

-And flies over to the landing, over the rack of parts... But conks his head on the way down-

<Stratus: "OW! (*grumble*) Stupid occupational safety standard violating factory...">

-Passing some turrets in the process of final assembly and packaging-

<Stratus: "EEP!">

-And hurries by quickly-

???: "AH, I TELL YA. POKEMON. LOVE 'EM. JUST... THE WAY THEY LOOK IS GREAT. AND THEIR... BEHAVIOR. WONDERFUL, ISN'T IT? VERY COLORFUL..."

-Reaching a tall room with coiling pneumatic tubes transporting a mix of cubes, turrets, and sundry objects-

???: "RIGHT. WELL. I'M GOING TO TAKE THIS RAIL DOWN THE BACK WAY. SEE YOU AT THE BOTTOM. GOOD LUCK! BE CAREFUL!"

-Which Stratus makes down via gliding from tube to tube down to the floor, where he spots white portalable walls-

<Stratus: "... Rightmost button, huh?">

-And shoots a blue portal at the wall nearest him, allowing us to file out-

<"Whoa... Where is this?">

<Stratus: "I have... (*yawn*) No idea...">

-The thought suddenly occurred to the group that they had no idea what time it was at the moment. For all they knew, they had been up constantly for several days without sleep-

<"... Maybe we should rest here... If something bad comes up, I'm sure that core will be able to wake us.">

-And we curl up on the landing, and doze off-

Good night. And will continue this saga with you tomorrow, Luke. Ask Tangent or someone who's played Portal 2 for pointers on how the factory worked if you're feeling impatient.
