Mandarin South Island
Alleys on the far side of the town
-Maekrite is walking around a strong tree, annoyed-
— <I don't get this... I am the one taking care of him! Rrrrrr..... he should be asking to me for advice... for...
> — sniffs around, blinks, pushes his horn against the bark — <I am taking care of him... he's mine...
-Maekrite brushes and pushes his horn against the tree, honing it insistently. Every once in a while he sniffs the air around him, trying to pick on an uncertain trace, but he returns to swing his horn at the tree, that has already a pretty large cut-
— <Rrrr.... I did not ask for this.. it's...
> — examines the tree more closely, continues — <but the others... they're gonna pick on me...
-Maekrite swings his horn and hones it on the tree for several minutes, until he suddenly notices a leaf that has fell on his back-
-The Nidorino looks up, to notice some of the tree's leaves are falling. He examines the one closest to him, it's dead, dried, and tinted in a purple-ish color.-
-Maekrite steps back to look at the tree and grins, content with himself. The tree is already dead from all the poison he has poured onto him, and the trunk has a large open wound. Letting out a roar, Maekrite thursts his horn into the tree, creating a crack that extends to the other side. After a swift kick, the trunk breaks and falls over-
— <This... this is something I have to show...
-Maekrite sniffs the air again, picking a particular scent, and after shaking himself up, walks cautiously towards the wealthy district-
Back at the Park
-I return to meet Ichtacya and Algira glaring at each other, both of them with some wounds that make obvious what has happened. Dintel is sitting away, quiet, and Copahue is covering Shahinne-
— All right, I think I know what is going on but I'm gonna give you one, and only one chance. — to Algira and Ichtacya — What is going on here?
-Both Pokemon stare nervously, then avoid my gaze-
— ...Well? Algira?
Err...-]> — flashes nervous, ashamed colors — <We... were... fighting?>
— That much I can gather. Thanks.
-flutters around — <She blamed me for losing the Gym Challenge... and... uh... we got out of control...
— Way out of control you did. Shahinne only now stopped crying.>
— ...Wait, wait, why exactly are you blaming Algira for losing, Ichtacya?
-The Leafeon lowers her head and tail, and tries to avoid staring back at me or her other teammaates-
— <Well... she... uh...> — shakes head — <Dintel got run over. My leg got hurt... She always claims she is the team leader, but does not show it. She lost. She... she wasted out efforts.>
— <I did what I could! I had to go there because Trainer could not send anyone else!>
— <Hey! I resent that!
-I go to Ichtacya and Algira and pick them both up, taking them to a fountain-
— You two are going to wash up and then we are going to have a talk, all right? Look... I understand that none of you wanted to lose.
-I start washing Ichtacya first while Algira sits on my head-
— But it's my responsibility to train a good team. Most of us are pretty new at this, you should not be expecting to perform perfectly from day one.
— <But we won back there... we beat that prick of a Marowak...>
— <Yeah... and we were so happy there...>
— But that was with teamwork. Back here, you were all alone against your opponents. It was my fault that I could not send anymon else, or that I didn't prepare you well...
-thinks for a moment whether to explain to them about why Maekrite is not leading the team anylonger-
-After a while, when I start bathing Algira, Ichtacya leans on my leg and drops her ears-
-sprouts some water — <...Yes?>
— <...I wanted to help with your battle. I really did...>
-blinks, flashes a sort of confusion — <I wanted to help Dintel too...>
— <Poor Dintel...
-Dintel is drawing random lines on the grass, while Copahue is cuddling Shahinne-
Wealthy Neighborhood, at a Forest near some Houses
-At a balcony, a Pokémon is resting, leaning on the edge and smiling at the world below her. Well, mostly at the mon below, and the announcements he makes-
"Bah! Whatever those monster are, they are going to fall soon.
"They can come here and try if they want! I'm ready, rawr!
"I'd love to see that... but the bugs say the monsters are elsewhere?
"They must have ran afraid. *random swipe* How would they be able to come in and attempt to strike my well-guarded princess?
"Keep flattering yourself, heh...
"They'd better leave this forest for true warriors! For only one of swift movement and strong thurst can earn this beautiful princess atop the human nest!
-The figure below scratches some trees and lets out some challenging growls, then pokes the ground a couple of times with his horn to check that it is well honed, to then swing it in the air proudly-
-The Nidorina atop the balcony looks down at the Nidorino and sends him an air kiss, then lets out an inviting growl for any males in the vicinity to come along. She looks at the tidied grass below, ready for a battle if it gets to happen-
"Well, I'll welcome any challenge, although they'll waste their time coming here for nothing! Only I shall climb to the balcony to meet this princess for a kiss under the setting sun!
"Awwww... well we do have quite some time, Tony...
-An annoyed Dustox flies in from a treetop and flutters above the balcony-
"Could you two keep it quiet? We are trying to sleep. And besides... *to the Nidorino* you know the other three or four Nidos in this island live near the port, right?
"Well even the better! *swings horn proudly* Even if the challenge comes from faraway lands, I'm not going to have them any special consideration. They shall meet my horn!
"You'll have to call louder for that... *winks*♥
"Oh! Yes! To the port shall the call reach! Come for this princess if you dare!
-The Nidorina turns her ears back, after listening to some human, apparently her trainer, complaining that the Nidorino is going all noisy again, and that if they want to do stuff they should shut up and go make a nest together-
"You know what? Screw it. I'm leaving this forest with my family. It's the same every semester... and for nothing...
-The Dustox flies away-
-After a couple more calls from the male, some other Dustox start leaving to another part of the forest. Only some random wild mons stay behind, watching with amusement as another hour passes and the Nidorino keeps growling, scratching trees and going around under the direction of the female-
"You know? Trainer is all right...
"...Oh? What do you mean, my liege?
"Well... *irises glow redder* if no challenger comes, when you are done there, you are going back to that tree... and are going to dig me a burrow.
"...! Dig a... a... It will be an honor! I'm gonna dig a hole on that tree more that good enough for us! *runs around happily*
-While she stays up there, with all the comfort her house provides, taking in some sunlight and eating some ice cream her owner has recently bought, the Nidorina takes periodical looks down to curiously examine how the Nidorino goes around, tidying up the wilderness around him, scratching all the trees and faing imaginary opponents. She amuses herself as she eats her ice cream.-
-However, at some point the growls and scratches stop and the Nidorina, sensing something strange, decided to look over the edge-
"What is that?
"Hmmm... apparently there's somemon coming... *faces a thicket and takes battle position* But no worries! I have dominated this territory, my princess, and soon you shall have the fang of this defeated opponent as a prize!
-Suddenly, a Sludge Bomb comes out from the thicket and impacts the Nidorino on the flank, pushing him a fair distance and crushing him against a tree-
-The Nidorina watches in a mixture of awe and horror as another Nidorino emerges from the thicket, challenging her knight.-
"I'd like to test you on that... *swings horn*
-The Nidorino gets back on his feet, shakes the poison off himself and rushes horn down to meet the challenger, but stops only a couple of steps after, surprised at what he sees-
-The Nidorina examines the body of the Nidorino from above as wel, and she recoils after she notices the many wounds, the murderous intent and the weird golden markings this male has on his poison spots.-
"Oh no... no please no...
-The Nidorina fears for her mate. This is definitively no normal Nidorino, she realizes. Then she remembers the stories circulating around the forest and realizes that her Tony is about to face a monster... probably one of those Deltas that were trying to take a God!-
-The two Nidorino lower their horns and start circling at each other, everything else but the opponent in front of them and the prize atop the balcony cast aside from their minds.-
-And then they lunge at each other's throats-
