Spider-Man General Discussion

Go To

This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.

  • Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
  • Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
  • Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread which covers them.

Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.

Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.

Please follow the spoiler policy rules - tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

     Original Thread OP
Since everyone likes talking about him. I know little about him(Ironically,I got nearly all I know about him from a Batman thread),but he's apparently important so I made this thread. Enjoy.

On a funnier note, that is an extremely unflattering picture of Harry on the characters page thar.

Yeah, I've been meaning to replace some of the old images on those pages.

Y'know, I'm starting to think the defeat of the Inheritors will involve Benjy Parker somehow. Both because he's one of the multiversal singularity people they're after and because all little kids in comics are god-tier, don'tcha know.

Why is it that in every universe other than 616 Peter knew Gwen and/or MJ in high school? Ultimate universe, both movie-verses, Spectacular Spider-Man, TV Ultimate Spider-Man, etc.

Bolded part, bolded by me.

Tecnically, in the Raimiverse, Peter had known MJ long before high school, back when they still were children. And he didn't meet Gwen until the third movie, long after he graduated from high school.

If he knew her before high school and went to high school with MJ then he knew her in high school. And/or means he only needs to know one of them.

Well, to be fair, in the Ultimate universe, Peter never actually graduated high school, so he knew every character "in high school."

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.

So, apparently the people who write the Handbooks have said that any time Slott gets a reality number wrong, it's an alternate universe of an alternate universe.

So yeah, those weren't the "real" Amazing Friends. smile

So, really get invested in the fates of those characters, but also don't care, because nothing's actually at stake.

My various fanfics.

Even if its not 'really' these characters its still being used to get the shock value of those characters being killed.

It's the worst of the I Don't Care Because There's no Involvement and I Don't Care Because They're Killing Off What I Liked worlds all in a single package!

It's also a massive chicken copout. Marvel wants to have its cake and eat it at the same time, and ends up doing neither.

There was also the Ms. Marvel Annual issue during the height of the SHRA where the two teamed up to smash some robots after she unsuccessfully tried to arrest him.

There's a guy on CBR who's kind of a batshit insane Peter/Carol shipper. But he basically wants Peter hanging out with just about every single female character Marvel has.

I know exactly who you're talking about. Lately he's been on this massive binge of Spider-Man and Mystique being the perfect couple. [lol]

Whats that Peter and Carol Danvers shiptasticness you guys were talking about?

Back when Brian Reed was writing Ms. Marvel, he started to make Peter a reoccuring Supporting Character and actually wanted the two to hook up. So he ended up including a lot of Ship Tease between the two, the Dark Reign tie-in being the most blatant of the bunch.

But, this was also during the time where the Spider-Office was in their "Carlie Cooper or bust" mode, so since Reed really had no say in the matter it was a Foregone Conclusion that Peter and Carol would never be an item.

Yeah, a 30-year-old dating a teenager is skeevy and gross. So Peter and Spider-Gwen as a couple would definitely be a no-no.

She's college-aged, going by a comment made by her dad: "You know if it were up to me, I'd tell you to leave the band and focus on college. You're not in high school anymore".

Still don't think it will go anywhere, though.

Remind me again which one is supposed to be the Jerkass

Hah

Same thing during the Clone Saga. Ben being this chill dude and Peter frothing and punching walls and wives and stuff.

[up][up]This continues to cement why I like the clones more than the original. THEY are allowed to change, grow, and act like adults while Peter is stuck being the writer/editor's escapist man-child.

@CL: I think the two biggest barriers aren't age, but 1) they are from different universe, and 2) it might stick. One is an issue because it adds a lot of complication to the narritive and it leaves a big question of why one of them would abandon their entire world. Two is an issue because despite Marvel putting out new love interests, they don't really want any of them to stick. If any of them stuck, then they might *GASP* get married and that would age Peter. And that is the way any serious relationship with Peter would head because he is very much the marring type.
