I like it.
I LIKE it, but I don't love it. My main concern besides the difference in sound quality/sound effects is that Amy isn't playable. That and the game doesn't come with both soundtracks in all regions. It's fun, I play it when I can, and it would be nice to see it get re-released with the Genesis games' saga.
Now posting as Enzeru, this serves as an emergency avatar backup accountI thought it was one of the less disliked Sonic games. D: Personally, I don't like it.

Estimated shipping time: 2-4 weeks.Sonic CD is one of those funny games where everyone and their mother complain that it's "overrated", yet i've never seen any praise that could warrant that kind of backlash.
I don't like the 2D Sonics much, but I found CD to be a bit more playable than the first two. The biggest problem are the dissapointing boss battles.
Agreed.
Now posting as Enzeru, this serves as an emergency avatar backup accountI never could enjoy Sonic CD that much. The disappointing soundtrack (both of them) and the... weird level design kinda turned me off.
Hey, I liked the soundtrack.
New RP!No, you are not the only one.
It's my favorite Sonic game, and I'll always consider it the best - it evolved on the beginning that was Sonic 2 without seeming so... leisurely as Sonic 3.
The stages were huge but dynamic, and you could take several paths if you wanted. The soundtrack was the first soundtrack that showed me how consistently good Sonic music is - that in addition to Sonic 2 clinched it for me (I personally thing people exaggerate about the differences between the soundtracks, NA version is just as good).
Wacky Workbench is one of my favorite stages, mostly for the music but also because I like the environment. Least favorite is probably Collision Chaos - the music wasn't as good as the rest (at least the Present version) and there were lots of wide open spaces with nothing, except maybe time wasting bumpers to keep you bouncing for days.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Still haven't played it.
NO! YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE! YOU ARE NEVER THE ONLY ONE!
-ahem-
That said, I like it too. The opening sequence is just too awesome.
It is also the only game where amy wasnt completely annoying
Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans.Haven't played it myself, though I have it on a compilation, but Electronic Gaming Monthly's staff loved it back in the day. It's possible that's where some of the Hype Aversion is coming from.
I liked it. I also liked the U.S. soundtrack.
Both soundtracks are great, but the Japanese/European songs tend to fit the level better. Either way, it's probably the best Sonic game, next to Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
Why I am afraid of fences.I loved it. I can see why other people might've been thrown by the more explorative levels, but I basically live for that.
Eh, I think it's pretty good. It's not exactly what I'd consider to be the 'best' Sonic game made so far, but it certainly is not a terrible game. It's just a little... unorthodox as far as non-spinoff Sonic games go, is all.
Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows.I was greatly disappointed and confused during my first playthrough. When I made an attempt to get the good ending I learned that I hate the game and damn near everything in it save a few boss fights, Stardust Speedway, and the Japanese soundtrack. The level design was something I hated. A lot. Then we have the last boss which was the lamest one the original console 4 had. Even Sonic 2 had a better one and Sonic 1 was the first game so I cut it some slack. Sure it's got multiple paths but fucking hell you have things like Collision Chaos and Wacky Workbench...Sonic 3 and Knuckles and Sonic Colors handled the "Gotta find shit" and multiple path thing MUCH better. Colors also handled platforming much better overall. Sonic CD is probably my least favorite of the games not on the gamegear with Sonic 2 standing right beside it. Oddly the Japanese version has my favorite soundtrack in the series and if I didn't have said soundtrack separate from the game I would probably play it often enough just for the music.
But hey you liked it.
If we must list best games...Sonic 3 and Knuckles and Colors.

If someone wants to accuse us of eating coconut shells, then that's their business. We know what we're doing. - Achaan ChahReally? I would think it's the other way around: the Japanese music is slightly better music just to listen to (with a few exceptions, of course), but the American soundtrack fits the stages a lot better.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.I'm in the "Japanese is more fitting for the stages" group as well as the "Japanese soundtrack is much better overall" group.
If someone wants to accuse us of eating coconut shells, then that's their business. We know what we're doing. - Achaan ChahBack when I used to care about Sonic The Hedgehog, you couldn't step ten feet into a sonic forum without its praises being sung so I guess its Hype Backlash... which is stupid, of course.
Personally, I liked it. Not as much as the main four but I still dug it.
"Everyone wants an answer, don't they?... I hate things with answers." — Grant MorrisonI thankfully avoided most of that due to being incredibly uninterested in fan sites and fora for things I like. I found a few things here and there declaring it the best of the series. Even better than 3 and Knuckles. Not sure where I came across this information though. I have since forgotten.

I never really got anywhere with CD. My cousins had a Sega CD and I managed to get all the way to Metallic Madness, but at the time, I was mostly just coasting through to the end of the game and not exploring as much as I should. I'd like to play it again, but I don't know if I like it or not at the moment.
As far as the music goes, I liked the Japanese tracks once I finally heard them, mostly because I like how each stage had its own Leitmotif throughout its past/present/good-bad future incarnations. Not that I hate the alternate soundtrack, but whenever I visited my cousins' house just to listen to Sonic CD's music, my favorite tracks were the Past themes, which incidentally were the only songs from the Japanese track that wasn't replaced. Tidal Tempest was probably my favorite among the NA soundtrack though.
Seriously, it's a great game.
If you look past Wacky Workbench, anyway.
