If it's used as an Audience Reaction (not In-Universe), yeah, it goes on the YMMV subpage.
Rhymes with "Protracted."I don't think we should allow them to be used this way at all. I encourages Trope Decay, which is why some trope pages outright say they are only for In-Universe examples like Buxom Is Better or Hot Amazon.
Regulated fun - the best kind! I don't make the rules, just enforce them with an iron fist.In this specific case I'm not sure how well it will work. But to answer that I have to ask another question: does the player base of an online game and/or MMO count as both in-universe and audience? Their qualification as audience for the purpose of Audience Reactions is not in doubt, but in many games, some more than others, they're inseparable from the game experience. (Game design nerds would insert a reference to the "player narrative" vs the in-game narrative here.) For example, Eve Online is a Wide-Open Sandbox with a high Player Versus Player quotient, and a recurring "Internet spaceships are serious business" meme. But when a leader in the game's leading alliance defected to the enemy (Goonswarm) because he was sick of the serious business mentality, sabatoged the alliance so its territory claims came crashing down overnight on his way out and changes the face of the alliance power game for months afterward? That's something else.

I have a question. If a trope is used as an Audience Reaction, should it go into the YMMV tab?
Also, the OP has 3 CriticalResearchFailures. "Stop Having Fun" Guys is YMMV and Happy Ending Bittersweet Ending are tropes.
Did we ever reach a consensus on More Popular Spin-Off? I forget where it was brought up. Should it go to TRS? I don't think it's YMMV, it might be Trivia, but it might be Paratext too in the right circumstance.
Is Unpleasable Fanbase YMMV or Flame Bait, as it has both banners?
Keeper of The Celestial FlameSeeing as it's locked, I'm guessing the latter.
what index should we put the actual Flame Bait page on? I thinking Administrivia, but I don't know what category it should fall under. It's unindexed at the moment, you have to find it by using site search.
Keeper of The Celestial FlameFlame Bait. Its now an index.
That's not what I was asking, I was asking what page to index the Flame Bait page on, since it isn't on any indices.
EDIT To Add: I Knew It! is on the YMMV and Trivia indices. It's getting the red dot in /Main/ but its only got the Trivia banner when you click on the page. Putting it in Trivia for now.

Keeper of The Celestial FlameI added Flame Bait to the Administrivia index, just before The Great Character Alignment Debate.
Keeper of The Celestial FlameHi guys! I'm sorry if this is off topic, but a little birdie told me that any complaints about the new YMMV system were supposed to get sent here.
I don't like splitting tropes off into YMMV in the first place (almost all tropes are subjective in some cases), but it's been resulting in objective cases of tropes getting moved to YMMV pages because the main trope is flagged as YMMV. And then when someone moves them back (because for this particular series/whatever they're definitely present), they get slapped on the wrist and told not to move things Just Because You Shouldn't. If the YMMV-flagging system is kept (I don't like it anyway, but if it is), I really think some kind of get-out clause is needed for when YMMV flagged tropes are true in a given series.
It exists, that's the [[invoked]] tag. Put it somewhere on the line, it won't display and will prevent the example from being flagged as YMMV.
Okay, thank you! I was delighted with the
thing, I just wasn't sure if you should use it for cases where the trope isn't explicitly referenced in-universe. :)What Goes Where On The Wiki should have the info about when to use invoked tag. For most Audience Reaction tropes, it's "when the characters are the audience" or when it's lampshaded or something. Just be careful on how you consider it "in-universe".
Fight smart, not fair.Yeah, Magnificent Bastard, for example, is probably not going to get an exception here.
Rhymes with "Protracted."Bump. Is this the thread where you ask if a given item goes on Audience Reactions or YMMV.Home Page, if it's subjective?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanNo, I think this was the thread for when those categories were originally created. Discussion about whether individual tropes belong is happening at the "Pages that need or don't need banners" thread.
Rhymes with "Protracted."But the banner in the two indexes is the same.
^ I think that's a case for Trope Repair Shop. I'm not sure about officially, but unofficially the fandom examples probably ought to be moved.
