We don't really need to speculate on whether Resident Evil 6 is being made or not. This is Capcom we're talking about. Capcom.
I would say the definition of survival horror is loose. I mean, the term originated with Resident Evil, and had as its definition "like Resident Evil" more or less.
If I had to give a more rigorous definition, I would say Survival Horror is a game that has several of these qualities:
-An overall story theme of horror ( the actual plot has to qualify as a horror story, independent of the gameplay )
-Art and sound direction to produce a creepy ambience throughout the game
-Exploration of a dangerous environment
-A relatively fragile hero, who is susceptible to rapid death under nontrivial circumstances
-. . .who nonetheless still has at least some ability to fight back
-Active hostile beings trying to kill you ( not simply environmental dangers )
-Puzzle solving
-The presence of "apocalypse logs" and other forms of written/recorded story
-A relative lack of other friendly characters
A survival horror game needs to meet the first criterion, and fufill most of the others.
Home of CBR Rumbles-in-Exile: rumbles.fr.yuku.comWhen I think "survival horror", I don't think Dead Space or the current Resident Evil games. I think of the original Alone In The Dark. Graphic adventure games like Phantasmagoria.
Jonah FalconHonestly I think its almost to the point where its subjective, in my first playthrough of Dead Space I tended to have trouble getting ammo so a lot of the time I had to either run or really conserve my ammo and I wasn't really playing the game wrong. The only time in that game where I didn't feel it was survival was when I bought shit-tons of ammo and blasted the final boss to kingdom come.
IMO, if you can't meaningfully fight, its not survival horror. Its just an adventure game with a horror theme.
Home of CBR Rumbles-in-Exile: rumbles.fr.yuku.comI was puzzled about how Left 4 Dead counted as a Survival Horror game until I played it on Advanced. The odds are really stacked against you on that difficulty and higher.
Not to mention Realism...
Dead Space was a good survivor horror game to me. There were times when I had near to no ammo and I was honestly freaked out by the concept of leaving the safe room. Some of those jump scares freaked me out too, but those only half count apparently. Though, the scariest moment for me wasn't a jump scare. I had just picked up the last suit upgrade and I ran off to buy it. If you've played it to that point, you know the safe room stopped being safe at that point. Well, I didn't see my visitor before getting to the shop. I bought my new suit at the sacrifice of a good amount of my ammo, since I was short on cash. I left the shop and turned around. There was one of those winged things in the room FILLED TO THE BRIM WITH DEAD BODIES TO REVIVE. I had to fight off two black necros before I could get to the thing, which had brought two more black necros to life.
Huh? What'd you say?
Edit: Never mind, I made a mistake. Its negligible.

Think they'll try and improve the AI for your partner? Or just ditch the whole idea?
If Douglas really wants to play Wesker, they should just bring in one those Wesker clones we heard about in the last game, like Agent HUNK.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult. You know what they should wrap up? What became of Sherry Birkin. It's been 13 years since we last heard of her, so this game should show what happened to her after all those years.

Not just Sherry, either; what about Barry, Rebecca, Billy, and Carlos?
I'll turn your neocortex into a flowerpot!Regarding the original post, I could see Wesker returning in Resident Evil 6. I know Word of God says he's dead, but honestly, it just doesn't feel conclusive.
He was standing in lava. Two rockets to the face just don't seem like they'd be enough to kill him when he can stand in lava.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.^He could have been a clone, too.
Ok, the game's been officially unveiled, with plenty of new details.
- The game takes place in 1998, a time where Resident Evil fans already know what's set to take place. The title lets you enjoy the series from a new perspective, as the men and women who are technically responsible for it all.
- Rather than continuing the zombie slaying antics of BSAA agents, you're taken back to the original outbreak "that underscored both Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis."
- The game doesn't require any crazy amounts of knowledge of the past titles or characters involved in the series. The title opens up to a "quartet of new faces". Essentially, you're playing as members of the official Umbrella Security Services squad.
- Operation Raccoon City is a team-based shooter allowing four members of the USS team to destroy all evidence of the ongoing outbreak. Along with slaying the zombies, you're looking to "kill pretty much every survivor possible".
- The gameplay is described as "dirty", and the series will feel much darker than it has up to this point.
- The game features three factions that Capcom has stated make up a "three-corner conflict". The other two factions are the US Spec Ops, who are there to repel the USS, and the "bio-organic weapon monsters (BO Ws) created by Umbrella.
- The USS team is made up of the following characters: Vector, Beltway, Bertha, and Spectre. Depending on which character you choose, the responsibilities that you're asked to do within your team will variate.
- Hunk, first seen in Resident Evil 2 as a hidden character, is the inspiration behind the USS team.
- "Whichever team you play on, you'll be facing Umbrella-created horrors in between skirmishes with each other".
Initial impressions? Not sure if want.

I'll turn your neocortex into a flowerpot!Sounds kinda fun.
Described as "dirty"? You can describe zombie sex as "dirty". This game is gonna rule.
Sounds like its gonna be Resident Evil meets Call of Duty. Which is Completely Missing The Point of the series. Fucking Resi 4. I knew it would ruin the series FOREVER.
Can't think of anything witty, so have this instead...
"Getting back on the original topic, all these Resi 6 rumors seem like pure speculation. Does anyone have anything resembling actual facts?"
Slant Six announces on its website, that they're working on a top tier IP with a new publishing partner.
They've advertised for a Japanese language interpreter/translator.
And they've recently expanded, with a number of employees listing on linked in an unannounced Multiplayer Shooter for he 360/PS 3.
Meanwhile, Capcom have said they intend to farm out more to western developers, and producing games for their IP annually.
Oh and there was that previous time they were rumoured to have farmed out to an unknown, unproven developer, and then we got Dead Rising.
So either the information Kotaku got is correct, or someone did their research to make it seem like it was.
